Andy Burnham has won another term as Greater Manchester mayor with more than 420,000 votes.

West Midlands

Traditional Tory stronghold Solihull was the first of seven council areas to declare its results for the West Midlands mayor election, with Andy Street polling well ahead of Labour’s Richard Parker, reports the Press Association (PA).

Parker received 11,728 votes, well behind Street on 35,289. Green Party candidate Siobhan Harper-Nunes received the third highest vote in the borough (3,582).

A swing of 5.35%

Tracy Brabin (Labour) is re-elected Mayor for West Yorkshire.

But, of course, there will be a Reform Ltd candidate on every episode of Question Time up until the General Election...

Some limited re-counts taking place in the West Midlands

It's part of Operation Lie to Rishi.

He was pretty down last night. They needed to raise his spirits. At this point he is the only person in the UK who thinks the Tories can win. They can't afford to lose that.

West Midlands rumoured to be decided by a margin of less than 3,000 votes (602k total votes). Potential for recounts.

BBC speculation is maybe recounts in West Midlands. Very much speculation I emphasise

Does seem like it’s the Tories that have asked for the recount.

Wolverhampton Result for West Mids Mayor:

Parker: 48.7% (+5.8)
Street: 34.2% (-13.5)

9.65% Swing
Parker needs 4.5% overall.

Can they take Nigel with them too?

It’s too much to hope that these election results mean we’ll see a lot more LD and Green representation on TV and a bit less mad right wing stuff, isn’t it.

Sadiq Khan wins historic third term as London Mayor.

He’s the first holder of the office to be elected three terms.

Recount in W Mids apparently.

We’ve had the results in Wolverhampton, where Richard Parker got the most votes - 26,442. Andy Street got 18,582.

This is a sharp change from 2021, when Andy Street was in the lead in Wolverhampton.

Candidates are waiting to hear whether there’s going to be a full recount of votes, or bundle checks to verify the numbers. Either way, there’s a tense wait ahead.
