Thread 13 - TalkLair: “I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.”

(Previous thread 12).

Looks like spring has sprung! Tulips, apple blossom and early hay fever are upon us. In the TalkLair, we remain hunkered down keeping cosy and warm, because "something something 'til May is out". The hearth is glowing, the walls covered in dubious artwork, books by non-approved authors line the shelves, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

Thanks.

I hope I dry out soon, I left my waterproofs and am now soggy.

Gonners · 05/07/2024 20:39

Your stepmum sounds impressively determined to prove that surgeon wrong, and quickly, @SinnerBoy - I applaud her!

artant · 05/07/2024 23:20

Your poor step mum, @SinnerBoy - here’s hoping she continues her speedy recovery and defies all predicted limitations!

artant · 05/07/2024 23:35

Also, I hope you’ve now dried out!

I’m hating today’s weather but so glad it’s today not yesterday as getting my mum out to vote would have been more than a little challenging on a soggy day.

MouseMinge · 05/07/2024 23:40

Love and as quick a recovery as is safe and possible to your lovely stepmum, @SinnerBoy It must be really bloody painful.

I got a great phone call from one of my Macmillian nurses this afternoon. We'd spoken yesterday because I wanted to know the basics of the results for recent CT scans and endoscopy - my appointment to see the oncologist has been moved about a lot and now it's next Tuesday. Well, it had better be! Anyway! The reason I'd called was because I've been having difficulties and although there has been good news - the original malignant tumour has gone! - there's also been not great news, there's a new tumour which was found during my endoscopy and was marked as malignant but the original biopsy has come back as unclear or something like that. It's an anomaly but not necessarily cancerous although my last tumour refused to show it was cancer for months when it finally did.

Another anyway! I was aware something wasn't right before the endoscopy because swallowing felt like it was narrowing again and since then it's got worse and there is rather an excess: of pain. All I can say is thank goodness for liquid morphine. There was some good news during our teary phone call yesterday. My lungs - where there had been a question of possible cancer cells - are clear! This is a huge relief because since the pneumonia the only time I've been free of a cough is when I had a fortnight of steroids. I also have upper back pain and together I was worried that it had spread. I'm hugely relieved. The back pain is probably just related to my oesophagus. So, I cried on the phone because I'm not swallowing well, it's hard to have my liquid food and even water isn't without difficulties. And coke, but that's more obvious. Sorry, I have gone on here! Phone call from my nurse this afternoon. I'm booked in for an endoscopy on Monday morning at 10.30. He'll take another biopsy and - fingers crossed and all of the atheist, non-atheist, and any gods and goddesses who want to give a woman a break - he wants to put in a temporary stent which will open up my oesophagus a bit. I'll be in quite a bit of pain afterwards but it will ease and I should be able to at least drink properly again which will be enough for me. Knowing that I've got that happening on Monday has cheered me up so much and it will make the weekend easier to get through. Just two and a little bit of a day(s) to go and there will be relief. I love my team and they're being so good to me right now.

artant · 06/07/2024 00:13

Oh @MouseMinge you really, really deserve a break! Fingers crossed for everything going well on Monday and for easy swallowing and no more bloody cancer.

duc748 · 06/07/2024 01:33

You so do, Mouse! Every good wish!

Britinme · 06/07/2024 03:33

Thinking about you Mouse, and everything crossable crossed.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 06/07/2024 07:57

All crossed here too. Clear lungs is good, I hope the rest of Monday's news is too.

Kucinghitam · 06/07/2024 07:59

OH @MouseMinge you have been through so much! I'm glad to hear that your lungs are all clear, I'll keep my fingers crossed for everything next week.

Keeping everything crossed for you @MouseMinge

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 06/07/2024 11:53

Fingers crossed from me, too, Mouse

SinnerBoy · 06/07/2024 12:00

Oh, Mouse you really are going through the wars, aren't you? I hope all goes well and that you are pain free soonest.

VictorianBigot · 06/07/2024 12:04

What everyone else said @MouseMinge. Keeping everything crossed for good news and some relief for you.

weaseleyes · 06/07/2024 20:04

Well, hooray for healthy lungs, but about time the rest went into abeyance, mouse

DeanElderberry · 06/07/2024 20:13

Hang on in there, Mouse. I've just done some intense praying for your intentions at evening Mass, and on Monday when I'm in the big church I'll light a candle - the village church only has electric ones, which aren't the same.

MouseMinge · 06/07/2024 21:17

Thank you @DeanElderberry ! I'm so lapsed that I'm lost and I wanted someone to pray for me but all the cousins are lapsed like me and the aunts and uncles are either dead or have the dementia so we've not told them I'm ill because it would be far too confusing and upsetting and they don't need to know. I did get sent a Miraculous Medal which I've been wearing ever since. I'm a very poor excuse for an atheist.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 06/07/2024 21:21

Electric candles are definitely no good for ritual purposes.

MouseMinge · 06/07/2024 22:31

I dislike them they just feel wrong. It's lovely when you light a candle and place it with the others and there's so much melting wax dripping on the ones that were already lit and a lovely smell. You definitely get the feeling of ritual when you do it.

duc748 · 07/07/2024 12:42

Heh! The first page nails it, as usual.

VictorianBigot · 07/07/2024 12:44

It's like a cross between one of those toilet paper things and a prawn.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 07/07/2024 12:47

duc748 · 07/07/2024 12:42

Heh! The first page nails it, as usual.

I read the second page too and the vote is unanimous, it's ghastly.

Who designs these things?

DeanElderberry · 07/07/2024 15:05

Oh dear, what a dress. I feel a tiny bit sorry for the OP.
