The days are gradually growing longer, but the worst of the winter weather is not yet behind us. In the TalkLair, we remain hunkered down keeping cosy and warm. The hearth is glowing, the walls covered in dubious artwork, books by non-approved authors line the shelves, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them). 

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

I'm kicking off the thread with the first of the (unofficial) thread pets.

We've been visiting my home town (home island?) for the past few days, and the hotel has a handsome young fella on patrol throughout the grounds and beach. He also thinks he owns the hotel building, however many times the staff gently carry him back outside.

I have to go and continue a cleaning and chucking-out session in the kitchen, started yesterday when I realised a mouse had got into a deep drawer and started eating not just the cocoa powder I was looking for, but various other stuff in packets. Randomly stopping eating carbs at the end of August (really random, no forward planning or running down supplies) has meant there's sundry uneaten pasta etc which needs either to be chucked or put into rodent-proof containers against the day when I start eating that stuff again.

I was thinking more of the 'comfortably asleep' than the undertackle display. Too cold for that sort of thing.

A day spent lounging in a comfy chair is always a good day as long as the basic requirement of not displaying your private parts to all and sundry is met.

Today I learnt about the Lucifers of Liège.

Joseph Geefs was commisssioned to create a sculpture, L'ange du mal, for St Paul's cathedral. He came up with this.

Which was installed but, after due consideration, found to be too distracting.

So his brother Guillaume was asked to create a replacement thay would be less alluring and rather more suitable for an ecclesiastical setting.

Lovely Skittles! I deduce from the tight curl that the temperature in the room is rather cold?

We drove back to the capital yesterday - drivers here are hair-raising, but the motorway has some glorious views. Clouds floating been the forested hills. And at a service station, they took the trouble to build a strolling path under the motorway to view the lazy tropical river.

Well spotted Kuc! We had a day when our heating was on the blink and it was -13C outside so it did get a bit chilly. The house is very well insulated so it wasn't below freezing inside but it was definitely cool!
