Sunak: Ping pong with the enemies of the people

Sunak: Ping pong with the enemies of the people

Like this!

bombastix · 22/04/2024 08:37

He's like an ineffectual teacher who says "right, you all have to be quiet" and then everyone ignores what he said and gets louder.

This good

IClaudine · 22/04/2024 08:46

Yes, I like the ping pong idea,!

Oops, more "accidental" antisemitism from a Tory woman(?).🙄

You really shouldn’t throw accusations as serious as this around, without evidence. I understand that today, facts and evidence aren’t deemed as crucial as they once were, but still I find them important.

  1. Evidence of antisemitism is where?
  2. Evidence of ‘Tory woman’ is where?

Expect you’ll ignore me as you’ve blustered your little piece of unsubstantiated crap, however I’m giving you the opportunity to redeem your embarrassing faux pas.

Lion400 · 22/04/2024 08:52

Bit like Labour had to do here. Removed though no apology for their utter misogyny and pure ineptness. We’d best get used to it I suppose.

BestIsWest · 22/04/2024 08:54

The half a billion pounds the Tories have spent on the Rwanda scheme so far would have covered last year's cuts to adult social care. Twice over.

How depressing.

And even if they get a slight off the ground there are 40,000 asylum seekers that won't be assessed here (under Sunsk's rules) and can't be sent to Rwanda.

DuncinToffee · 22/04/2024 08:56

I will start a new thread before this one gets filled, lasted a week Brew

Imagine how many services that benefit women could be restored with that.

We're all agreed that ad was appalling. Some of us have complained. Tories of course are never sexist. 🙄

This was about Labour though wasn’t it.

I agree obviously - Tory men can be sexist too. Problem with Labour is, the women who complain about misogyny and sexism are shut down.

Even on the doorstep, Labour didn’t want to talk about it. Terrifying parallels to points in history and across the world, all things considered.

Yes it is very sad. It will continue as long as we don't take responsibility for what has been in the last decade. That includes a lot Conservatives shutting up and a Labour Party with a huge majority. That is what the country historically does when it has had a traumatic time; it gives a Labour government a huge majority to mend things. The issue is our fellow citizens who are still pro Brexit. You will get people like Farage and Braverman and Truss just working this grim angle the longer we don't face up to what a fucking mess we have become. This whole process will involve a lot of people having to accept they were wrong. That is hard on the ego. Personally I would be glad if, ironically, they left the country rather than indulge their stupid theories about politics.

Notonthestairs · 22/04/2024 09:12

At the very least we need someone in politics to start talking about the financial benefits of being in the single market.

I don't think there will be any serious push on this, during the next parliament. But then at some point in the one after when Keir decides to step down, I hope that some of his potential replacements as Labour PM are clear about moving towards rejoining the Single Market.
What I do think there will be is closer cooperation with our European friends and less antagonistic mood music.

DuncinToffee · 22/04/2024 09:16

Trump's hush money trial is starting today if anyone needs some distraction Wink

IClaudine · 22/04/2024 09:17

Andrew Mitchell apparantly said on Today:

"Some of the discussions that have gone on in the Lord’s about the judicial arrangements within Rwanda have been patronising and, in my view, border on racism"

They really are despicable.

DuncinToffee · 22/04/2024 09:17

I haven't spoken to a politician on my doorstep for many years, we just get volunteers putting leaflets through the letterbox

IClaudine · 22/04/2024 09:20

Same here DuncinToffee. Not sure what "terrifying parallels" are involved with leafleting.

Demonisation of sick and disabled people, however...

Notonthestairs · 22/04/2024 09:21

"What I do think there will be is closer cooperation with our European friends and less antagonistic mood music."

Yes, I think you are right.
However, it's bloody painful when the economy could do with a boost - and the full Brexit checks have been delayed 6 times (because they will make trade more difficult).

IClaudine · 22/04/2024 09:23

Mitchell also said

Rwanda … has come back from the abyss, a country completely destroyed by the genocide.

It is absolutely extraordinary what the Rwandan government have achieved in all walks of life.

It is a safe country and indeed, if you look at the statistics, Kigali is arguably safer than London. So I have no doubt at all about the safety of Rwanda and the efficacy of this scheme.
