New thread. I took the liberty - the old one was at 999!

I think it would be hysterical. I might just check in and out if I remember.

Yes I do want to see a bit of it. I mean what a bastard he is. I think it would be just too revealing like pulling the curtain back in the Wizard of Oz

I think we all know it will all be about how if they had kept Big Dog then they would have won.

Interesting

Sunak pressed to end Rwanda bill impasse by exempting Afghan service veterans | Immigration and asylum | The Guardian

However, several Tory MPs have admitted privately that they are “uncomfortable” with Sunak’s refusal to exempt Afghan veterans. The Labour peer Des Browne, who tabled the amendment, warned of the implications for the security of the British armed forces.
Lord Browne, who was defence secretary from 2006 to 2008, said: “I can barely walk five yards in the Houses of Parliament without some Conservatives stopping me in a corridor and saying they wish the government would budge on this issue.
“They can’t understand why the government couldn’t concede something on this. I don’t understand why they’re not more questioning about the implications of this for our security and for our own armed forces.”

@JessS1990 - yes maybe it will be a strange combo of self pity and self aggrandizing rhetoric with no reference to facts.

I can make a special Boris bingo card for the occasion

💐 Mine too. He’d be horrified to see what’s happened to the country he fought for.

It's 17 year since my Dad passed. He was a staunch Tory supporter and I often wonder how he would cope with the Tory party of today. I know he would be appalled by their behaviour.

Exciting line-up

Channel 4 becomes the first broadcaster to announce its plans for coverage of the General Election night with Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Emily Maitlis, Alastair Campbell, Rory Stewart, Cathy Newman and Clare Balding ensuring C4 will be the home of the best analysis and coverage

Dh's reply to ds when he excitedly sent us this, saying IT. WAS. AMAZING. and that they'd even got Clare Balding was.....

"Can’t imagine why. It’s only a one horse race.." Grin

I almost think I would watch that. Just for the car crash.

Especially if he let Nads help him.

She’d be three sheets to the wind before even Sunderland had got their results in.

Sunak giving a press conference on Rwanda this morning.
Presumably they are dragging in all the Conservative peers that normally never show up to vote the legislation through today.

I imagine they need to get a wriggle on before the situation in Rwanda gets worse and the safe status is further shredded.

I hope someone asks him if in the future people will want to support the British military as translators if they know that they could be screwed by the British in the future?

Notonthestairs · 22/04/2024 07:41

That assumes he'll take more than a couple of questions and selects non r/w media.

Zonder · 22/04/2024 08:02

Radio 4 news just said the Lords will have to keep sitting today until the Rwanda bill is passed. I'm not sure he understands how votes work.

Notonthestairs · 22/04/2024 08:13

I imagine Sunak is going full enemies of the people this morning. It is so transparent - they need something to show voters before next Thursday and they have fuck all else.

Nevermind that they are also subverting the purpose of the Lords and also setting up the standard by which the next Government is free to force non-Manifesto votes through. I am sure Conservatives wont be complaining then

Although I guess Labour will need to increase their numbers in the Lords to make that happen as the Conservatives have always had a majority - another area that Conservatives can't very well complain about given the number of appointments over the last few years.

Is that how he thinks the GE will work as well?

bombastix · 22/04/2024 08:25

No I think they can ping pong him to death. I think the record is something like 11 returns of serve by the Lords.

Notonthestairs · 22/04/2024 08:30

We are assuming he sincerely wants the legislation to go through - I am sure he quite likes the mileage of pretending its Labour lords holding it up rather than crossbench and Conservative peers expressing their discomfort with the plan.

Notonthestairs · 22/04/2024 08:31

We are going to need another thread. Any ideas for the title?

DuncinToffee · 22/04/2024 08:33

The Express is definetely going with the Labour angle, something about frustrating the will of the people Hmm

This is what the HoL currently looks like
