Discontinued foods that you really miss

many lovely things have been discontinued that I really enjoyed growing up, Burton's potato puffs, the original Ringos crisps as they were in the 80s & early 90s. Topic bars, Riva chocolate bars. plus many many more
what do you really miss that they no longer make?

I thought M & S still did the wensleydale & carrot chutney sandwich?!! I went in the other day and there was a sign for it, but none left. I hope they haven't discontinued it!! Why do they have to meddle with shit we like all the time!!

It hasnt been in my local store or the bigger one in my town for about two years now, but maybe it's just not being stocked in my area?? I will have to explore a bit further afield. Fingers crossed for you that it comes back in your store - it was delicious!

M&S delta crisps.
Asda did ‘triangles’ crisps which were similar about 15 years ago but they also stopped making them.

Fab thread!

bendmeoverbackwards · 15/04/2024 13:02

@mrsdolittle I loved that Ovaltine chocolate bar, the crunchy bits had a slight bitterness which was perfect with the chocolate. You can buy (at great expense) a similar one on EBay.

bendmeoverbackwards · 15/04/2024 13:03

No one ever remembers these - Spare Rib crisps, they sold them in my school tuck shop in the mid 80s. Black shiny packet. Ring any bells with anyone?

daffodilandtulip · 15/04/2024 13:06

Arrgghh! I couldn't think of anything when I read the title and now I'm craving about 56 discontinued items 😭

Tooty fruities are still around but (as usual) they've fiddled with the formula so the edges are rounder rather than proper edges. Not nearly as good.

Aniseed Imperials. They were fantastic!

Coffee Matchmakers

Me and my nan used to share a box of these from Woolworths at Christmas about 35 years ago! I look out every year for them but no luck, to the point I almost wondered if i imagined them. The closest I have seen since was last year in B&M bargains a Caramel Coffee, but it wasn't quite the same. Sad times for coffee-chocolate fans

Benylin. I can still remember the 1980’s taste now but couldn’t describe it. I can remember thinking it would be nice dropped into lemonade. A 7 year old’s idea of a shot!

OliviaFlaversham · 17/04/2024 01:05

Waitrose crisp and crunchy garlic croutons. They were amazing!

I remember Ready salted chipsticks, they were in a red and clear bag.

What about tixylix.
That was an amazing tasting cough medicine.
You can still buy it but it’s not like it was in the 80’s/90’s. It’s had all the sugar and stuff taken out. Like calpol,

Moonshine juice drink
Secret bar
Tab sweets (like Pez but more sherbert-tasting)
Ice Magic (no other brands seem to have the same crunch or come in the same range of flavours like mint choc)

Absurdgiraffe · 17/04/2024 21:02

@asbestosmouth24 yes I remember those matchsticks. Very recently I got a big bag of something very similar from Lidl - one of those limited time offers that only appear every now and then. Might still be available if you are quick!

@asbestosmouth24 dentine ?

No not dentine but I do remember that, God all these things I'd forgotten existed!! I'm sure they were actually called germolene bubble gums bought individually in a white wrapper with a tattoo inside. I'm going to have to google now lol.

I miss these, and also Flyte bars which were OK as a replacement after theym ruined Milky Ways.

I remember the germoline bubble gums. The tattoos had smiley faces 🙂
