Discontinued foods that you really miss

asbestosmouth24 · 12/04/2024 22:46

many lovely things have been discontinued that I really enjoyed growing up, Burton's potato puffs, the original Ringos crisps as they were in the 80s & early 90s. Topic bars, Riva chocolate bars. plus many many more
what do you really miss that they no longer make?

I genuinely don't get the love for findus crispy pancakes especially the cheese ones that always reminded me of the smell of sick.

pastypirate · 13/04/2024 23:29

Spiras obviously.

Walkers pizza flavour crisps from the 90's. Heaven.

Birds Eye Inspirations King Prawns with Sweet Chilli, these were frozen prawns with a sweet chilli coconutty sauce in a bag baked in the oven.

Used to love these as a quick meal served with boiled rice.

Oh I liked those too. There were some salmon pieces in a similar sauce too . Sweer chilli and ginger I think .

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 14/04/2024 00:06

Does anyone remember the sweets that were in a packet, same size as toffos but they were more like boiled sweets, some with a soft centre . Flavours I remember were fizzy cherry, toffee apple and strawberries and cream. This was in the 1970s.

lollipoprainbow · 14/04/2024 01:51

Birds Eye did a prawn curry that you boiled in the bag

lollipoprainbow · 14/04/2024 01:55

The old ribena was lush and syrupy now it's just thin and squash like

ShowOfHands · 14/04/2024 04:32

Halloweenrainbow · 13/04/2024 22:41

Not Fruit Salad or Wham. Each chew was a different flavour and in different colour wrapper. They had a softer texture than Wham or Moam. The flavour was mild and creamy more like a thin Fruitella. Apple flavour was my favourite.

I've just had such a visceral memory of these.

I've been googling and "Hitschler Softi Chew Candy" is the closest I can find.

merrymelodies · 14/04/2024 06:11

The Irish Cadbury's visibly has more actual chocolate in it... 🤨

charabang · 14/04/2024 07:58

Cabanas, Secrets, Terrys Mint Cracknell and Golden Cup. All choc based obviously. There also used to be some frozen cheesy potatoey breaded triangles that you could deep oe shallow fry back in 80s. Delicious smushed between two slices of white bread with brown sauce and a copy of Misty comic.

Birdseye potato fritters :( I think about them often

Farm foods does their own version , which are pretty similar to the birds eye ones.

Tesco did a dark chocolate, strawberry and black pepper luxury popcorn that was just out of this world. I think about it all the time.

OMG! They did a white chocolate and mint one too and I totally forgot about it til now. It was amazing. But alas, no more

Blobs. I bloody loved those. I've given up mentioning them on threads like these, as it never seems to ring any bells.

Frenchyq25 · 14/04/2024 12:59

Rounders from Bejam....minced beef, wrapped in mashed potato, then breaded. They were so good and so much better than a crispy pancake.

The multi flavoured packs of toffos...the banana one was the best.
Rosters tbone steak crisps before they changed them.
Discos used to be so much better too.
Dark chocolate bounty.
Milk tray before they took all the best flavours out.

Double agents? I loved the lime and chocolate ones.

marshmallowfinder · 13/04/2024 21:15

Do you mean Country Store? It's available on Amazon.

@marshmallowfinder Nope, it was definitely Country Morning, and it was around in the '80s. It had a slight maltiness to it which was amazing! https://www.mrbreakfast.com/cereal_detail.asp?id=682

Dark chocolate bounty, bring it back!

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 14/04/2024 16:15

@DahliaMacNamara thank you ! Just googled Blobs, and that's what they were.

@Youdontfoolme I liked chocolate limes but these were normally bought by the quarter from the large jars in the newsagent. It was Blobs I was thinking of (see above).

MarmiteyCrumpets · 14/04/2024 16:18

johnworf · 13/04/2024 06:30

Do you mean this?

@johnworf It was definitely called Country Morning and the image on the box was different. Country Store seems to be more of a muesli, whereas Country Morning was more of a granola.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 14/04/2024 16:18

There seem to be a lot of posters missing dark chocolate bounties . I don't normally like coconut as a sweet, but I did enjoy the chocolate bar with coconut and cherries (cabana?) as this seemed really exotic .

8misskitty8 · 14/04/2024 17:43

My daughter misses Kellogg's Start cereal and 5 alive mixed citrus juice.

IndecentPropolis · 14/04/2024 17:45

Original sugar puffs that made your wee smell of honey.

Oh yes! The current 'improved' version is vile!

I loved five alive

Absurdgiraffe · 14/04/2024 19:25

So many of these! Mostly chocolate related. And the Sara Le Pecan thing.

@greyrockagain I don't know if these are similar to the Findus ones?

My DS loved Start cereal, I thought it stunk like animal
feed (he had it with hot milk)

I loved the original Sugar Puffs, they are inedible and way too expensive now. The last box went in the bin, they were vile. Definitely made your wee smell!🤣
