When did your kids stop calling you mummy?

Dd is 7 and for a while I’ve been mum. Tonight as I gave her dinner she said thanks mummy, and inside I was weeping! Obviously didn’t say anything to her otherwise it would be omg mum stop 😂

I want to be mummy for years yet! Didn’t realise how much I loved it.

Mine call me mama but refer to me as "my mum" when talking about me to their friends (or boyfriend, as my 10yo appears to have 😳)

Apparently Taylor Swift is "mother", which I'm sure she'd be very pleased to hear 🤣

AnnaMagnani · 10/04/2024 18:59

My DM is in her 80s, took her to hospital yesterday and was calling her Mummy to the consultant.

Was aware at school everyone else had changed to Mum, but I never did as I just always felt she was my Mummy.

Additional factors - I'm ASD and have a posh accent (friend calls me the Queen's cousin), definitely Mummy is more persistent in posh South culture.

OldTinHat · 10/04/2024 19:00

Hehehe - I'm 52 and call my DM 'The Mummy' with all the irony that comes with it!

My lot call me mum, mother, mater, and mummy when they want something, all in their 30s! 🤣

Echobelly · 10/04/2024 19:03

Ours stopped about 6 or 7. I was very happy to be Mum.

EventuallyDecluttered · 10/04/2024 19:03

Around the time they started school, we nudged them by starting to refer to each other as mum and dad, I never really liked mummy and daddy.

Scarramoosh · 10/04/2024 19:03

I think my DS was about 7 or 8

DH was still referring to me as mummy when speaking about me to DS until he was about 10 y/o. But DS piped up one day and said to DH "why you still calling her mummy...I'm not a baby!"

DH seemed more heartbroken at the loss of mummy/daddy than I was. I saw it more of another developmental milestone and loved the transition to being mum.

KCN2020 · 10/04/2024 19:04

My 3 yo has started calling me Mum already 😩

Chemistrychic · 10/04/2024 19:09

My 12 year old is trying to change it to Mum. She usually forgets if not in front of her friends though!

MrsWidgerysLodger · 10/04/2024 19:18

DD is 6 and I get a mix of Mum and Mummy.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 10/04/2024 19:33

My 15yo has been trying to make the transition from Mummy to Mum for about a year now and can't quite manage it 😆 When he's talking to me he just can't help but call me Mummy and DH Daddy. If he's messaging me or talking to me or about me in front of his friends he'll use Mum, but otherwise Mummy just keeps slipping out!

11yo DD tends to call me Mama and my 5yo calls me Mummy or occasionally by my actual name to get a laugh!

westcountrywoman · 10/04/2024 19:35

My children are 14 and 12. The 12 year old stopped calling me Mummy maybe 12-18 months ago.
My 14 year old still calls me Mummy (unless their friends are in earshot!).

Blankscreen · 10/04/2024 19:36

My ds is 13 and I'm still mummy but not in front of his friends then I'm mum.

Dd is 10 and I'm still mummy.

Andywarholswig · 10/04/2024 19:36

Mine are 12/14 and I’m still mummy or mama, I still call my mum mammy

Boscoforever · 10/04/2024 19:55

Mummah
Mam mam
Mother
But I notice they still write Mummy in bday card.
19/17/11 years respectively, all boys.
The best boys. :)

KevinDeBrioche · 10/04/2024 20:01

Mine call me mama and always have, I love it. They are 13 and 16.

CarrotPotatoRooster · 10/04/2024 20:03

Mine all still call me mummy, ages between 30 & 15

iwantsunshine1 · 10/04/2024 20:07

My ds is 3.5 and is speech delayed. Went from mama to baba (no idea why) and now I'm mum, never got the mummy

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 10/04/2024 20:07

Mine says mum more but occasionally it’s mummy. She’s 11. I’ve heard my 16yr old nephew call my sister in law mummy before.

Menomeno · 10/04/2024 20:07

Probably around 5 or 6. It gives me the bad ick when adults still call their parents ‘Mummy’ and ‘Daddy’.

TheHorneSection · 10/04/2024 20:08

11yo changed to mum and then the 7yo started copying her and now I miss it!

But it’s better than the bellowed “Muvvaaaaa!!” I get half the time from said pre-teen

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 10/04/2024 20:08

She calls me mama and momma as well

Pineapplewaves · 10/04/2024 20:08

DS4 calls me Mum, DS8 calls me Mummy.

DSD calls her parents Mummy & Daddy at 22.

DP calls his DM Mother and SIL (54) still calls her Mummy.

I guess it's down to personal choice. I would prefer to be called Mummy at the moment but it makes me cringe hearing an adult call their parent Mummy & Daddy!

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 10/04/2024 20:08

My son stopped at about 5. I miss it.

Tisfortired · 10/04/2024 20:09

My eldest is 10.5 and he calls me mummy at home but mum around his friends 😂 which is fine by me.
