When did your kids stop calling you mummy?

Dd is 7 and for a while I’ve been mum. Tonight as I gave her dinner she said thanks mummy, and inside I was weeping! Obviously didn’t say anything to her otherwise it would be omg mum stop 😂

I want to be mummy for years yet! Didn’t realise how much I loved it.

Mine changed when starting high school because I teach there. Eldest settled on calling me MotherSurname rather than MrsSurname and her friends still call me that. They call me The Mother at home and DH they refer to as Parnet or Parental Figure. All said with great affection.

Feellikeafailurenow · 10/04/2024 21:16

10 or 11

Okayornot · 10/04/2024 21:18

My 17 year old still does because she knows I love it.
My heart broke a little the first time any of them called me "mum" (or more accurately "Muuuuuuuum"). I blamed Charlie and Lola.

My 10 year old DS has just started calling us mum and dad the last few weeks. I still find it very strange. It started at football in front of friends and continued. His sister is also 10 but still says mummy and daddy.

LER83 · 10/04/2024 21:20

Ds 13 flits between mum, mummy and mother, dd 11 calls me mother, and ds 8 calls me by my first name 😆! They all call their dad by a nickname, no idea when or why that came about! (We are still very much together!)

Halloweenrainbow · 10/04/2024 21:21

DS7 told me he refers to me at school as 'mum' because that's what his friends say, but he still wants to call me 'mummy' at home.

Catowl · 10/04/2024 21:22

We are still mummy and daddy to our 16 year old! He might refer to us as mum and dad to friends but we are always mummy and daddy to our faces. We have 3 and they all call us mummy and daddy.
Its not that unusual.

This will not be allowed to change either!!

Tessisme · 10/04/2024 21:22

My eldest is 15 and he still calls me mummy, but refers to me as 'my mum' if mentioning me to anyone else. It's quite common for fully grown adults to still say mummy here in NI. When my mum had carers coming, sometimes they would call me and say 'Just ringing about your wee mummy'😆

NahNeedsGarlic · 10/04/2024 21:22

I was mum from the beginning, I absolutely hate ‘mummy’.

Simonjt · 10/04/2024 21:22

Our almost nine year old calls me daddy, but only when his friends aren’t about, so I imagine it won’t last much longer.

fungipie · 10/04/2024 21:23

never- nearly 60 and I am still mummy. That's ok. Mum too, and granny.

Winnipeggy · 10/04/2024 21:24

Mine is 2 and has only just started saying it but my nieces are 13 and 15 and still call my sister mummy. Thinking about it now I don't think I've ever heard them call her mum.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 10/04/2024 21:24

Around 2!
Was gutted but hey ho

nameshame24 · 10/04/2024 21:26

Weirdly I was thinking this exact question before when I was signing my LG birthday card (she's 6 tomorrow). She still calls me Mummy so I wrote Mummy on the card but as I was writing it I thought 'will this be the last time I sign off as Mummy' as she's likely to stop calling it me this year and start calling me Mum soon Sad made me a bit emotional.

FcukTheDay · 10/04/2024 21:59

Mine are 12,11,10 and 9. They all call me Mummy. I am sure they call me Mum to friends which is fine by me but indoors it's definitely Mummy.

I am sure when my oldest starts using Mum the others will follow.

flyinghen · 10/04/2024 22:00

My 4 year old switches between the too 😭

Malbecfan · 10/04/2024 22:02

My DDs are 24 and 22 (23 in 2 days) and still call us Mummy and Daddy. They refer to us as Mum and Dad or "the parents/parentals" when talking about us. They and we are fine about it.

My son is in his twenties and calls me Mumma. Not every time, but often on texts and every birthday and Christmas card. He’s never called me mummy.

My 6 year old DD still calls me Mumma (and, more recently, Bruh).

Moier · 10/04/2024 22:05

I have a Grandson at 18 who still says Mummy..
A Grandson at 9 who says Mum..( cousins two daughters).
My daughters stopped when they hit about 10 years old.
My eldest calls me Mum.. or Mother or Mama .. youngest calls me Mum..
But the best name l love the most is Granny.

NI = mummy and daddy for life.

If you are asking after a friend’s mum = och, how is your wee mummy anyway, is she keeping well?

PyongyangKipperbang · 11/04/2024 01:21

Three of the girls 22, 19 and 12, still do and always have. The boys stopped quite young, around starting school or within a year or so. Eldest girl, 26 still calls me Mamma Bear because when she was little I called her baby bear and it made her giggle and called her father and me Daddy bear and Mamma bear! She calls her father Dad but the Mamma bear stuck.

DD8 and 10, still Mummy (although I suspect they call me Mum to their friends). My mummy is still mummy. I'm 44.

Yes I’m Mummy to my face but I’ve definitely noticed the use of “ my mum” in the third person!

I’d love to be “ wee mummy!”

Given DH’s height it may be yet to come.

I’m fully ready to be the baby of the family after years of being the maid…and the milk producer… and the nappy changer… and the get-up-in-the-nighter and the “oh Mama! Not that meal/ outfit/ [ insert latest disappointing decision]”

Wee mummy sounds just fine.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 22/09/2024 20:40

Friend who’s 60 still calls her parents mummy and daddy. They in turn refer to each other as mummy and daddy eg daddy is driving me to the hairdresser tomorrow. I find it really weird but seems normal to them.

PattyDuckface · 22/09/2024 20:42

Been a Brah since 2023 😎
