Travelator at the airport.

Especially when, as happened this morning, there is no one else on it because I love walking as fast I can and feeling like some kind of superhero striding out.

Conversely, I am most disappointed when there are lots of people and my childish glee has to be contained - and when someone has the temerity to block both lanes so I can't get past I feel deflated.

What childish things do you still get excited by as an adult?

Rather a lot of things I suspect

Leaning into strong wind

The sight of a steam engine

Revolving doors

Planes, I'm not a plane spotter but can happily sit for hours watching them (and listening to pilots talk about their job but that's another story). There's something about this big heap of metal flying in the sky that is mesmerising. Also I still get excited when I get on one or just stand near one.

TroysMammy · 31/03/2024 08:42

I'm the same age.
Mini Milk ice lollies
Swings
Receiving postcards, I've recently joined Postcrossing.

Saisong · 31/03/2024 08:44

Finding a random supermarket trolley that someone couldn't be bothered parking because of the tangled mess of other trolleys, and performing the jenga necessary to liberate a pound. That pound makes me feel as rich as I would have as a child!
Even though it wouldn't even buy a coffee!

Thegrassneedsmowing · 31/03/2024 08:44

Spring in England. It's so beautiful, I'm excited by it every year but more so the older I get.

Whiskers4 · 31/03/2024 08:45

Another here, I'm quite happy to get to airport early and watch them taking off/landing.

Riverlee · 31/03/2024 08:46

Easter eggs - where the chocolates are inside the eggs

steam trains - me too

Lifeboat stations - love looking around them

Yes, it’s beautiful.

PiggieWig · 31/03/2024 08:46

Driving through tunnels. If I ever need to cross the Mersey I feel like I’m in a computer game. I’m even happy to pay for the experience.

GonnaBeYoniThisChristmas · 31/03/2024 08:47

oh yes. I’m 43 but jumping in strong winds, running in the countryside, leaping out from behind a wall at someone, bounding into the sea and falling over …all v childish but super joyful.

UnbeatenMum · 31/03/2024 08:49

Seeing a bird I've never seen before
Giant redwoods
Seeing the sea
Beautiful views

VenetiaHallisWellPosh · 31/03/2024 08:49

I love travelators too!

I like riding on shopping trolleys in supermarkets (when no-one is looking).

Any buttons, I'm tempted to press. I was an enthusiast when I used to take DD to museums and things. Some buttons at work would stop an entire transport system so I have to keep this urge under strict control.

Callmecynical · 31/03/2024 08:50

Paddling in the sea and jumping over waves

Dragontrainer · 31/03/2024 08:53

Being the first person to crack the ice on a frozen puddle

Crossing one of those metal bridges that makes a clip clop sound with every footstep - the toddler in me silently shouts “who is that trip-trapping across MY bridge?” every single time. It must have been a game I played as a little one of which I have no conscious memory!

Me too...I love them....do you use flight radar? My brother works at Heathrow (engineer) and made me a calendar of aeroplanes for Christmas. March is an A380 🤣

midgetastic · 31/03/2024 08:55

Oh and shouting in a tunnel to get an echo

NearlyBritishSummertimeYay · 31/03/2024 08:57

@Riverlee

i thought the thread was going to be about Easter Eggs with the chocolate inside!!

id much rather have a very small one with smarties/buttons inside than any other!!

@Catname

im 55, i love standing at the front of the London busses with the huge glass fronts, its like riding a skateboard! (If you go out to Wimbledon or something, not so much in the centre where you can walk faster!!)

lots of things really - swings, slides & especially the ride where the swings fly out sideways.

It's the story of the Billy goats gruff until it?
I love this!

Shellyleppard1 · 31/03/2024 08:57

A new book and an empty peaceful house..... building a Lego set completely by myself 🤣🤣(two teenage sons have a habit of building Lego for me) lol

Thegrassneedsmowing · 31/03/2024 08:59

Seeing a bird I've never seen before

See an owl swoop when I'm driving at night. Magical!

Corksoles · 31/03/2024 08:59

Front seat on the DLR. Top front seat on the bus! (I can actually drive. But pretending to drive a bigger vehicle is still amazing!)

PeppermintPie · 31/03/2024 08:59

I never fail to be delighted when a random dog or cat actively seeks out my attention and I get to pet and play with it.

Weallnamechangesometimes · 31/03/2024 09:01

Double decker trains in Paris.

Loubelle70 · 31/03/2024 09:02

Oh and shouting in a tunnel to get an echo

I spent a lot of yesterday doing this Grin

I like to think I find joy and excitement in lots of silly things - dramatic weather definitely, running up stairs on hands and knees, skidding on ice or polished floors
