Travelator at the airport.

Especially when, as happened this morning, there is no one else on it because I love walking as fast I can and feeling like some kind of superhero striding out.

Conversely, I am most disappointed when there are lots of people and my childish glee has to be contained - and when someone has the temerity to block both lanes so I can't get past I feel deflated.

What childish things do you still get excited by as an adult?

Pressing the button on my hoover that winds the cord in 😂

Also when you've vacuumed and there are tracks in the carpet.

I still get a fuzzy feeling in my tummy on Christmas Eve and the night before going on holiday.

DaBlackCatsAreDaBestCats · 31/03/2024 12:32

Opening a new jar of coffee and piercing the foil lid.

Oh the planes for sure. Nothing quite as exciting as seeing one flying low coming into Gatwick if you’re driving past. Being the one getting on the plane fills me with excitement, not for the holiday but to be getting on the plane

Sitting being mesmerised by my Christmas tree after I’ve done the countdown of the light switch on (to no one cos they’re grown up now and at work) 🤣

EasterFunnyBunny · 31/03/2024 12:41

Virgin snow just waiting for my footprints (ditto big expanses of sand!)

Yes to kicking up leaves - not allowed as a child cos apparently “ it’s full of dog poo” 🤷‍♀️…. It never was😁

Yes to jumping waves , or swimming in an empty pool where the water is so still (rare occurrence)

Being up very early in the summer when it feels like theres only me and Ddog in the whole world

BusyMummy001 · 31/03/2024 12:41

Driving fast through deep roadside puddles (not when anyone is near by obviously).

Overtheatlantic · 31/03/2024 12:41

I get excited by
a sky filled with stars
meeting dogs in cafes
the first warm days of the year
Eurostar to Europe

NosnowontheScottishhills · 31/03/2024 12:42

New born lambs and calves we’ve got them everywhere at the moment, swallows returning in the late spring/early summer, curlews especially when they come back to our beaches after they’ve reared their young in the hills, the first snowdrops for me it means the beginning of the end of winter and I live by the sea I see it everyday it never fails to excite me.

EasterFunnyBunny · 31/03/2024 12:46

A hot summers afternoon, when even the insects seem drowsy…

nature in all its glory - particularly in autumn, when all the fruit and berries are at their finest - there’s a few weeks that this happens, just before the leaves start turning.

A beautiful clear night when the moon and stars are out and the sky is full. Reminds me of how small and insignificant we really are.

Mummyratbag · 31/03/2024 12:49

Easter eggs in shiny paper esp in primary colours
Blossom (not convinced by the arrival of spring with daffodils, has to be lots of pink blossom)
Old fashioned Christmas lights
Starry skies
Beautiful sunsets
Clean sheets
Fluffy towels
The squelch of a spoon in a bowl of untouched jelly
Opening a jar of Nutella
Proper crunchy Autumn leaves
Rainbows
Large waves crashing (from a safe distance)

Geez I sound like Julie Andrews!😂

Spring in England. It's so beautiful, I'm excited by it every year but more so the older I get.

This.
Plus watching birds feeding on a bird table, or using a nesting box.
Rainbows.
Snow.

Windysquall · 31/03/2024 12:50

Seeing 🌈

EasterFunnyBunny · 31/03/2024 12:50

@FasterthanaButteredOtter

oooh yes, new jotters, new diaries, new school books (best handwriting!) and new pens 👏

Years ago, I had my dream job in a stationers… my nose was stuck in the catalogues, buying loads of new stuff - in my head😁

WinterDeWinter · 31/03/2024 13:01

automatic carwash! (though simultaneously a bit scared)
Intercity trains

TellingBone · 31/03/2024 13:08

Like others I have childish excitement at seeing steam trains and aeroplanes and ships close up. Those who like flight radar - did you know there's also ship radar? Marine Traffic Amazing.

Sitting in a car going through a car wash is beyond exciting. Very fast glass lifts. Big thunderstorms - better than the telly.

Childish things I still do: walking on a busy street I 'race' a bus to a designated [by me] lamppost further down. Run down grassy hills, arms flailing. Re-read Enid Blytons.

43ontherocksporfavor · 31/03/2024 13:11

Hahaha op me too at 53!!
*The sight of a funfair( rides less so)
*thunderstorms

  • rainbows - saw a double two days running this week!!

  • ooh first sight of the sea on a trip to the coast.

  • plane travel

*first signs of spring, flowers and extra daylight- tonight I will that person saying ‘look how light it still is!’

sazzy5 · 31/03/2024 13:11

Jumping in crunchy leaves. I now have a dog that is obsessed with crunchy leaves and bounces like a rabbit through them.

Supersimkin2 · 31/03/2024 13:12

Catching a leaf 🍃

A month’s good luck.

Jaxhog · 31/03/2024 13:19

I've found my tribe! I like

Watching squirrels try to get into my bird feeder.
splashing in puddles
soft rain on our deck
the first tulip
my cat slow blinking at me
little birds in the trees
a rainbow
getting thanks in Mumsnet
fairy lights
scuffling through leaves
shouting in tunnels for an echo
running down grassy slopes
watching penguins
travelators
walking the wrong way down an escalator
blowing bubbles
popping bubble wrap
wind in the trees...

PeppermintPie · 31/03/2024 13:19

The little rooms they have in IKEA. I like to sit in them and pretend that it’s my home.

ohthejoys21 · 31/03/2024 13:21

I'm exactly your age. Skiing! Not much else. Sad really used to get excited about so many things.

Tarkan · 31/03/2024 13:24

Seeing animals in fields.

Seeing rainbows (there was one at a football match I was at last week and I took loads of photos of it).

Dogs wanting to say hello to me.

New pens and notebooks, even better if they're together.

For the PP who mentioned the Mallard, DH and I went to York for our honeymoon and he has a photo of me hugging (and possibly kissing) the Mallard as it has a plaque with my birthday on it (I was apparently born on the anniversary of its speed record) and I got rather excited by that. Blush

Sourisblanche · 31/03/2024 13:24

Finding a fossil at the beach
Being in the sea
Spotting a planet in the sky
Summer thunder storms

And yesterday I was quite excited when ds and I found some newts in my parents pond.

OriginalFloorboards · 31/03/2024 13:25

Trotting my horse where people can see me, or cantering across a field.

We couldn’t afford a pony as a child, so I’m now a horse owner in my adult life.

I always think in my head ‘I’ve got a horse!’ Like a little girl. I wave at children who wave back and smile at everyone because I’m so happy. My daughter thinks I’m ridiculous but she didn’t have to wait all her life for her horse. She was born in the saddle because it’s my thing and I wanted her to have what I always dreamt of.

I’m less happy tramping round in mud looking after them in long winters, but you take the rough with the smooth.

Daft as it seems I still get excited going to the beach in the UK (can’t afford abroad holidays with the horses, ha). Throw in a donut and life is good.

Sorry I went on, I even got excited at writing about riding my horses out!! I’m such a child at 52!

PeppermintPie · 31/03/2024 13:28

@OriginalFloorboards

I still get excited when I see a horse so I’m sure that you’re also making a lot of people very happy.

Agreed

Birchvalley · 31/03/2024 13:42

Opening the curtains in the morning to the white surprise of snow.
Rainbows!
Seeds starting to poke their heads through the soil.
Bluebells - there’s a wood near home that has bluebells as far as the eye can see - it’s glorious!
