Travelator at the airport.

Especially when, as happened this morning, there is no one else on it because I love walking as fast I can and feeling like some kind of superhero striding out.

Conversely, I am most disappointed when there are lots of people and my childish glee has to be contained - and when someone has the temerity to block both lanes so I can't get past I feel deflated.

What childish things do you still get excited by as an adult?

Driving over a hump-back bridge: if there are no other road users around I love to accelerate just enough to get that stomach-drop as you go over the top.

I'm the same age.
Mini Milk ice lollies
Swings
Receiving postcards, I've recently joined Postcrossing.

Ooh thanks for this. I've just googled and signed up for postcrossing. It's right up my street!

Rockpooling and fossil hunting, picking blackberries and blueberries in the wild and eating them straight away.

Cheshireflamingo · 31/03/2024 09:34

Excellent thread - so cheery.

First footprints on snow
A sea view
Croissants for breakfast
Random historical things reduce me to tears (eg Mallard steam engine at the National Railway Museum)
Seeing a bluetit fly in and out of the birdbox my son built
Watching my yorkshire puddings rise in the oven
Love love love a ruined castle or abbey

Lovelyview · 31/03/2024 09:35

Catching falling autumn leaves and making a wish

ErrolTheDragon · 31/03/2024 09:36

DH got me a new Apple Watch this week because the battery on the old one barely made it through the day...never mind that it can do an ECG and measure blood oxygen, it's got a Snoopy watch face option that does a different animation every time it turns on!GrinGrin

CocoapuffPuff · 31/03/2024 09:37

Paddling in the sea.
Rockpools. The swathe of crocuses that appear mid February on the central reservation of a local dual carriageway. Snowflakes falling. Cracking ice on puddles. The first appearance of the returning swallows. Spotting bats at dusk. The odd time we get a visit from a whale, dolphin or porpoise. Long tailed tit gangs visiting my bird feeders.

CocoapuffPuff · 31/03/2024 09:38

Ooohh crumpets for breakfast! Just had mine and I want more.

Lovelyview · 31/03/2024 09:41

My Mum's friend gave her an advent calendar last year. Mum is 83. It was an old fashioned religious one. It made her ridiculously happy because she had never had an advent calendar before!

I’m 52 and I love

Spring, seeing all the bulbs pop up

Being the first one up in the morning, enjoying a cup of tea in silence.

Washing on the line.

Sand beneath my toes.

The feeling of your tummy turning over when you go fast over humps in the road.

Listening to bird song in the garden.

What a lovely feel good thread.

Giggorata · 31/03/2024 09:48

yes, Spring. All of it but especially every year I enthuse about the wonderful alive greeeeeen of the new leaves (as pointed out by DH)
and laaaaaambs.

And when the amazing aeronautical swifts come back.

Shooting stars. Can't get enough of them.

I love miniatures and dolls houses and have been known to squee.

Came here to say this. Still my favourite thing

fightingthedogforadonut · 31/03/2024 09:50

Am 50. Still get stupidly excited about...

sitting on the top front seat of a double decker bus.

Peeling glue from my fingers

Fairy lights

Helium balloons

Licking cake mix from the bowl (better than the finished cake IMO...)

midgetastic · 31/03/2024 09:50

I did scrambling over rocks and then a quick paddle just yesterday - such fun

Me too...I love them....do you use flight radar? My brother works at Heathrow (engineer) and made me a calendar of aeroplanes for Christmas. March is an A380 🤣

Yes best app out there 😊. Two of the most interesting planes I've seen have been Aer Lingus with the Irish Rugby Team livery and Emirates with the Dubai Expo livery (then being in Dubai and seeing that very same plane on the runway) but DHL stands out well too.

I live on the Heathrow flight path I can sit in my garden and watch them circle round. It's a sad quiet day when they come in from the East.

Birds feeding in the garden
Getting up very early in the morning when it's sunny at 5.30am.
Wind. I bought a convertible and it literally made me happy every time I drove anywhere.
A well wrapped gift.

xSideshowAuntSallyx · 31/03/2024 09:57

Just thought of another one, when you're at Tebay/Westmoreland service station and you have the privilege of the fighter jets going past.

BTsrule · 31/03/2024 09:59

Snow

The sound of cycling shoes clicking into cleats - the adventure begins!

Calmac ferries

I've just signed up too. Never heard of it before and now I am really excited. Thanks.

Seeing bunnies. We live on an estate in the burbs of a small grimy city, but every now and again we see a bunny on the green bit at the edge of the estate if heading out early in the car . I always know it's going to be a good day if it's a Bunny Day...and today is a Bunny Day! (very fitting for Easter as well) 💛🐰. I'm 51.

Loubelle70 · 31/03/2024 10:30

ZebraDanios · 31/03/2024 10:36

Rainbows!

Nature in general. I saw a brimstone butterfly yesterday and squealed. And I saw a goldcrest at work last week and had trouble containing my excitement.

ZebraDanios · 31/03/2024 10:37

Oh and stationery. I get so excited going round Smiggle with my kids!

Wigtopia · 31/03/2024 10:41

Thunderstorms and snow. I lost my shot when I visited Norway in the winter a few years ago!!!
