Just for the fun of it.

I live near a place called Pity Me.
I've visited Twatt in Orkney.
Some people from our running club took part in a recent race near Shittlehope.

What is the funniest place name you have come across?

Although you may be amused to know that Sexey’s School is not far from Lusty Lane…

I'm always amused that Mary Webb School in Pontesbury, Shropshire, is on Bogey Lane. Although I guess the hilarity of it wears off for the pupils fairly quickly.

Really? Have you ever met children? Grin

We were all car sick at the time

There's also a "Carsick Hill" in Yorkshire, in Sheffield.

I went past Hardslacks this weekend. Found that rather amusing.

Near Exmouth in Devon there’s a pair of roads called Inner Ting Tong and Outer Ting Tong.

Some other village names in the South West that I love:
Nempnett Thrubwell
Ryme Intrinseca
Huish Episcopi
Queen Camel
Curry Rivel
Newton Poppleford

Love the Lynsore Bottom sign, that is local to me. It’s the Please Slow Down that makes you snigger. Poor Lyn.
I used to live near Cold Christmas in Hertfordshire.
PP mentioned Fanny Street Cardiff. DD lives near there and it’s perpendicular to Minny Street, which is funny because when she was little Minny is what she called her, well you get the picture….
Squeeze Gut must a popular name for a very narrow alley, there’s a few been mentioned and there’s one in Whitstable too. Lots of weird ones in this part of Kent: a Slutshole near Faversham. A Cockle Swamp Alley in Deal. Dead Cat Alley in Maidstone. And Smarden has a Lewd Lane and a Love Lane!

mummatoots · 25/09/2024 00:04

The street sign for 'Butts Wynd' in St Andrews always makes me giggle.

Has anyone mentioned Fingringhoe in Essex? I had a collleage who lived there. He moved to Canada eventually 😀.

There is a place near where a I grew up in Scotland called Skinflats. It makes me think of Silence of the Lambs and the kidnapper who made the hostage “rub lotion on its skin”

Bully Hole Bottom near Chepstow.

There's also Brynbugga, near Chepstow. I have a puerile chuckle when I drive past the sign.
