Just for the fun of it.

I live near a place called Pity Me.
I've visited Twatt in Orkney.
Some people from our running club took part in a recent race near Shittlehope.

What is the funniest place name you have come across?

We have a Blue Ball Lane and a Bell End near us!

Cockbush avenue very near us...

I grew up near Pratts Bottom. I always thought it fortunate that the hospital was in nearby Locks Bottom instead. And they just use Bromley on the birth certificates

I now live near Warning Tongue Lane.

Upper Dicker and Lower Dicker

A friend's address used to be The Old Piggeries, Dark Lane. Very ominous!
I know a Frog Lane in Somerset and Tadpole Bridge in Oxfordshire (might just be in Wiltshire), but both sound quite cute.
Shitterton in Dorset.
Gilpin's Bottom in Devon.

Used to walk out of the primary school in Switzerland where I worked and pass a side street called Buttholenweg.

Notateacheranymore · 09/03/2024 18:27

Not strictly correct, but we’ve been to Northumberland on holiday in recent years and near where we stayed in Cresswell, someone had most diligently changed a middle letter of the village called Shilbottle to something else.

bingoringo4 · 09/03/2024 18:30

Shingay-cum-Wendy Cambridgeshire

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 09/03/2024 18:31

Also near Pity Me.

Locally I like No Place and have a fondness for Bitchburn, especially when they have posters around advertising Bitch Fest.

Then there are the badges that invite questions like Burnt Houses (which is near Cockfield of course). I can't help but wonder whether there was a different name before a fire?

Originally from the south of England, now live north, when I used to revisit, the old, warn out signs in Kent that spelt "ham sandwich" used to amuse me as a child... (worn out "ham" left, "sandwich" right)
