Professions you would never date after working with them

I’ll start - surgeons.

One of them told me his wife was a GP -“because only one of us (him) could have a proper career”

Also - the overriding narrative that every female who complained about their outcome or consultation had “mental health issues”. They just couldn’t conceive that anyone would complain about them.

Pilot
Firefighter
Anaesthetist - most I know are utter arseholes, male or female, with just some notable exceptions

I fell in love with my anesthetist when I got the epidural, no idea what he even looked like, I just know that I loved that man 😂

Stonemasons ; they start off solid enough but just get boulder and boulder .

also they are not a secret society just a society with secrets

LamonicBibber1 · 10/03/2024 00:03

All the military people I know wouldn't/don't make good partners imo. It's a different world for them compared to us outsiders. The ones I know have been in some utterly hair curling escapades in the name of bantz and I couldn't deal with any of it 😅

Door staff and bar staff. Worked in bars and clubs for a few years and the married door staff were just devoid of any sort of loyalty or morals. The male bar staff were bad but the door staff were far worse.

Female bar staff just did the job and went home, I never knew one to cheat on a partner.

You have to be kidding - bar staff (of both genders) have a heck of a reputation for it.

I used to help out at a busy chain pub and it seemed half the staff were at it! Plenty of them female.

I am married to a sales person. He is kind and trustworthy. He'd never lie to get a sale he just likes meeting new people and chatting. He gets a buzz from a big order (it's business sales) and loves his job. He's certainly not in the league with estate agents and used car sales.

I was going to date a Psychic Medium but I couldn't see a future for us

Myfluffyblanket · 10/03/2024 00:35

@Redherringfish I think you're thinking of Freemasons !

TempestTost · 10/03/2024 00:38

I don't think I could date anyone who worked in advertising.
Maybe the same for HR
University prof in idiotic subject
Fitness instructor - would make me feel inadequate

Namechange666 · 10/03/2024 00:40

Army.

Met a guy who worked at the hospital where I did but also the territorial army. Awful selfish guy with a selfish attitude. Apparently had also used a prostitute. I am so glad we are not together.

Anyone who works in an abattoir you would have to be a psychopath to do this job.
Any job that involves cruelty to animals- I would want to kill them myself.

I don't think that's true. I have a relative who works in an abattoir, he is quite good with animals and he certainly isn't a psychopath. In fact he's rather involved in grass roots animal welfare advocacy and activity where he lives.

Actor. My ex DH's fragile ego left no room for anyone else

Married to a firefighter for over 20 years. No idea why they’re on this list.

I do know a teacher and a pilot and all they ever talk about is their jobs. Yawn.

I assume it's just because of the danger element, and the worry you would feel when they were at work. Saying that, my BIL is a firefighter and he seems to play pool and watch Netflix a huge amount of the time with thankfully very few fires.

Car Salesman

Tryingmybestadhd · 10/03/2024 01:29

Nothing armed forces related ( army , navy air force etc ) , no police officers of any kind .

Police or military, high DV rate and misogyny is rife.

You are spot on . I deal with daily with divorces and as soon as I spot police or army it’s almost certain DV and abuse is involved

Ialwaystry · 10/03/2024 01:32

Another one for a police officer.
I'm an ex police officer.
The long hours, and overtime you don't have a choice about. The cancelled holidays.
The people you arrest ( you really see the other side if society).
It took me ages to get rid of the brain washing, the mentality and lack of trust you have for people.
I wouldn't and don't want to hear about it every day.

Ialwaystry · 10/03/2024 01:38

Yazzi · 09/03/2024 14:04

Anyone who travels a lot for overseas conferences or in international work in high risk environments, because it's the social norm to sleep around in those contexts despite having a partner at home.

100%

I have to say I don't know any police, what's the issue there?

I'd have to agree with Surgeon/Doctors, Cardiologists specifically for me!!! Altho in saying I'd never date one, I'd be the patient of some of the most awful ones as they were good at what the did!!

Edited

The affairs. The racism and sexism . The power misuse.

HollyKnight · 10/03/2024 01:48

Men. All of them. I've never worked with one who wasn't an absolute shithead of a human.

SauronsArsehole · 10/03/2024 01:51

Any sort of military or police.

stats show that there’s higher domestic violence, alcohol abuse and higher rates for divorce.

not to mention the issues with military blokes returning to civvy life, permanently or after a tour, can be absolute arseholes and take a while to adjust. some have issues that were never dealt with before signing up, we’re pushed aside whilst in, only to spill out upon leaving.

been there and got the T-shirt. Friends with lots of military and ex military though. They’re not bad people because they’ve dealt with their shit.
