Professions you would never date after working with them

I’ll start - surgeons.

One of them told me his wife was a GP -“because only one of us (him) could have a proper career”

Also - the overriding narrative that every female who complained about their outcome or consultation had “mental health issues”. They just couldn’t conceive that anyone would complain about them.

out of interest, why not
barrister and
banker?

No teachers, no one who has anything to do with NHS, no social workers, no police, no sports-people, no one religious, no vegetarians or (even worse) vegans (yup, I know these are not jobs).

Military men and everyone else - fine.

whats wrong with teachers and NHS staff?

LunaTheCat · 09/03/2024 20:57

I’m a doctor… not a surgeon. Many of the surgeons I know are very ethical and humble. The paediatricians in the city I live in are mostly absolutely horrendous though!

67Namechange · 09/03/2024 21:00

Army, I've been left broken hearted twice

LamonicBibber1 · 09/03/2024 21:01

Prison guards. They all seem to be fucking each other behind their partners backs.

Meowandthen · 09/03/2024 21:08

Lawyers - too arrogant
Butcher - chopping up dead animals all day and I hate the smell of any butchers or butchery section
Musicians - unreliable. Too much personal experience of both famous and struggling ones.
Actuary - clever but invariably dull

Foxglovers · 09/03/2024 21:17

Another one here for surgeon and police!
I know a few surgeons well - all very arrogant in their own way.
I don’t know any police offices well but know a few as acquaintances and they certainly fit the stereotype - struggle to see how someone could work in the force who didn’t!

TiredCatLady · 09/03/2024 21:17

Police - I’d rather remove my own fingernails.

Psychologist - worst of anything ever n every way I’ve ever dated and that says a lot.

WalkingaroundJardine · 09/03/2024 21:19

Police
Politician

Meowandthen · 09/03/2024 21:21

I haven’t ever worked with one but I have always said I’d never date a gynecologist as you’d feel a bit like homework.

IT penetration tester expert...narcissists are drawn to this area & it's a kind of stalker you can't easily get rid of

I am sick of people assuming that the security mindset is some kind of sociopathy

Sameratdifferenthat · 09/03/2024 21:23

Police
Estate agent
Dentist

Iamtired123 · 09/03/2024 21:23

Butcher
Slaughter house worker

Turtledov · 09/03/2024 21:24

Rugby player. Probably applies to most professional athletes. Selfish, philandering and not too bright

haXXor · 09/03/2024 21:24

oldestboy · 09/03/2024 18:13

Police. Close working with partners in dangerous and stressful situations = recipe for affairs

IT. Misogynistic.

IT. Misogynistic.

Sadly, often the case, and the decent ones get snapped up young because the pay is good.

Let's just wheel out a load of stereotypes shall we.... I am close to at least two of the professionals mentioned here (and their spouses) and can confidently say that I see no reason not to marry them. Some individuals may not be likeable, but you can't assume that a whole profession are exactly the same.

If we're talking about police officers though, obviously Not All Police Officers Are Like That 🙄, but it's not just a stereotype... Both anecdotally and from data (I believe they are the profession with the highest divorce rate), affairs (and generally sleazy behaviour) are literally rife!!

Doctors

Why?

Xtraincome · 09/03/2024 21:35

Police, Surgeon, Military, anyone who travels loads for work or works long unsociable hours.

I am married to a postie ❤️ 😍 he grafts hard, does OT when we need extra, is exceptionally present in every way he should be as a father. A lot of posties I meet are similar.

Isitautumnyet23 · 09/03/2024 21:42

Anyone in the pub/nightclub industry

newnamethanks · 09/03/2024 21:42

Lawyer. Journalist. Surgeon. Police. Tory MP or any of their associates and supporters. Rupert Murdoch, 92, although I understand he's recently proposed to potential Wife No 6 so I expect he won't be bothering me.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 09/03/2024 21:45

Teachers. So many of the ones I work with are egomaniacs and have strange ideas on how to communicate with other adults.
