Which activities make your heart sink?

Each to their own but which activities that your friends and family love are just not for you?

I’m genuinely pleased that others love it but I’m really not a fan of going for a walk unless there’s some other purpose e.g Exploring a city. I find it boring and difficult and often painful(Due to disabilities)

Also anything involving clubs or alcohol. I don’t drink and I have sensory issues so they’re too loud for me.

There are others but I want to hear what activities you dread.

TIA

Board games
Forced fun

ScouseOfCards · 06/03/2024 16:27

Ice skating! It's like repeatedly falling over on concrete.

Fancy dress anything. No thank you.

I love pub quizzes, crazy golf and going for walks though 😂

Singing while someone plays a guitar - DH has a relative who takes his guitar everywhere with him and sits and strums away expecting us all to sing along. I can’t bear it. I cringe myself to death. My arse cheeks clench so tightly, I’m scared they’ll never unclench.

@alloalloallo

This sounds like the worst torture imaginable. I couldn't sit there and witness that.

Omg I feel your pain! I have a good friend who plays the guitar and occasionally (thankfully!) he brings his acoustic guitar along to the pub or coffee shop. Like you I am cringing like my life depends upon it!

Tulipvase · 06/03/2024 16:28

I was going to say secondary school parents evening but it’s obviously not that type of activity, not that it is one as such.

A busy pub on a Saturday night. Much prefer a quiet lunch and drinks in a nice pub.

tangycheesythings · 06/03/2024 16:32

Musicals

(exception of little shop of horrors and minch's matilda)

twingiraffes · 06/03/2024 16:35

Open mic night at the pub.

The evening bit of wedding receptions - I've had more than enough by then, I'm bored, I've had enough of the inane small talk with people I've never met before and will never meet again, and I just want to go home.

Going For A Walk. Not an ordinary walk, but serious yomping over hill and dale.

The very idea of an aqua park fills me with horror.

ToothofaPig · 06/03/2024 16:36

School events. I always turned up and put on a good face for DC sake and really tried to enjoy but would be lying if I said I did. A particularly bad memory was going in to listen to a Y2 violin 'concert'. Dear mother of god. Those sounds still haunt me.

They are now in secondary and I have nothing to do with the school. Bliss.

SailingStormyWaters · 06/03/2024 16:37

Party games, absolutely detest them.

MrsMouse03 · 06/03/2024 16:39

Bloody Bongo Bingo nights . No thanks

RhubarbGingerJam · 06/03/2024 16:42

Work team building exercises - or Christmas meal out.Party games and fancy dress.

Never enjoyed any school event but never expected to though never dreaded them - went for kids and got though them as quick as possible.

Venus14 · 06/03/2024 16:43

Drag Acts - can’t stand them.
Water parks - just too much.
Aimless walking in the countryside - boring

twingiraffes · 06/03/2024 16:45

I'm with a pp who said they could tolerate the accidental pub quiz. I actually find them quite fun (in moderation), especially observing the utter cut-throat rivalry between the 'regular' know-it-all teams trying to get one over on each other, and the ribald uselessness of some of the other teams.

LightDrizzle · 06/03/2024 16:46

Karaoke
Ten pin bowling
Beer pong
Taskmaster type games of challenges
Clubbing

Dreamstosell · 06/03/2024 16:47

Lying in the sun by the pool all day - really not my kind of holiday.
Shoe shopping

minipie · 06/03/2024 16:48

Board games, card games

Watching sport

Pubs in general (though I do like a quiz)

Anywhere so loud it’s impossible to chat (so most bars)

northchesterforest · 06/03/2024 16:50

Casinos!

Ialwaystry · 06/03/2024 16:50

Apart from books I hate any type of shopping and buy everything online.
Loud concerts and music
Even loud music in the car
Christenings (so boring) and anything to do with church and religion.

defi · 06/03/2024 16:51

School pick up small talk with the other parents. I sit in my car until everyone's gone.

Kids parties, luckily last few have landed on his dads weekends

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 06/03/2024 16:51

A swimming party where I need to supervise and this meant wear a swimming costume. Of course all the dad’s went. Luckily we were there first and already in the pool! 😆
I’d wanted DH to go, but work came in so off he went!

Aquamarine1029 · 06/03/2024 16:51

I second that any school function was pure torture. Musicals, plays, recitals, all shit. Those were the only moments I bitterly regretted having kids.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 06/03/2024 16:54

Skiing and hiking. I am not outdoorsy and don't understand why you would voluntarily do either of these things.

lyingonthebeach · 06/03/2024 16:55

Going out for coffee (why?)
Hen events/baby showers
Ten pin bowling
'Significant' birthday events

Tessisme · 06/03/2024 16:55

tangycheesythings · 06/03/2024 16:32

Musicals

(exception of little shop of horrors and minch's matilda)

Agree with this! Although I did also like Grease.

Also, any organised 'fun'. I don't mind so much if it's child centred, but adults having quizzes or playing stupid games has me surreptitiously edging towards the door.

NeedtostopusingMNsomuch · 06/03/2024 16:57

Fancy dress. Hen do’s. Swimming. Particularly wandering around the edges of, and in large swimming pools / splash pools with toddlers who want to constantly get in and out (UK, obvs freezing). Go Ape. Drinking games. A walk with no destination. Nibbles. God I’m a killjoy
Edit. Forgot cringe stand up comedy. And work drinks / any sort of organised work team building / ‘fun’. Baby showers. Karaoke

StoneTheCrone · 06/03/2024 16:58

Any kind of team building or after work event. Any Teams calls, meetings in general.

Anything where i have to make an effort such as party games or a dinner with strangers. Conferences are another one.

Fucking musicals. Kill me now.
