Which activities make your heart sink?

Each to their own but which activities that your friends and family love are just not for you?

I’m genuinely pleased that others love it but I’m really not a fan of going for a walk unless there’s some other purpose e.g Exploring a city. I find it boring and difficult and often painful(Due to disabilities)

Also anything involving clubs or alcohol. I don’t drink and I have sensory issues so they’re too loud for me.

There are others but I want to hear what activities you dread.

TIA

Staff nights out. I'm glad I retired before our school staff started a "social committee " who organise events regularly like a trip on the bus to an 80s night, a trip to a musical etc

I couldn't bear any of that. Just because you work with people doesn't mean you want to socialise with them.

Large "woman ony events especially hens nights and baby showers. Worse if there's games involved. Also work events

And also this ^

Tayegete · 06/03/2024 18:30

Anything you have to dress up for. Go ape or any kind of physical challenge. Getting together with a group of school mums to draw a naked man.

LindorDoubleChoc · 06/03/2024 18:34

I have about a thousand of these but highest on my list are

Going on holiday or even away for a weekend with anyone other than DH and DC
Enforced socialising with colleagues
Company training events
Baking
Housework
Mooching around the shops
Going to things like craft fairs and antique fairs

Just remembered another one. A massage. The idea of a total stranger,or anyone actually, rubbing their hands all over me makes me cringe. My ex had a bit of an obsession with wanting to give me 'a nice massage'. I got fed up with repeatedly telling him to fuck off that I did not like being massaged.

Edited

Massages for me too. At best mildly pleasant but not worth getting all covered in oil, and at worst painful.

Go-karting. I hate driving, why would I pay to do more of it.

Live music in pubs. I'm there to socialise, not shout at my friends or sit/stand without interacting because we can't hear each other.

Big group meals out. I love socialising but only in small groups. Hate sitting in rows along a giant long table.

Baby showers 😩😩

Friends keep inviting me to a 'pints and pots' night making pots on a wheel in a back room of a local pub. The thought of it makes me want to cry. I really hope they lose interest in it soon.

😱😱🤣🤣

Weddings
birthday parties
christenings
surprise parties
leaving do’s
pubs
clubs
ice breakers
work do’s

Anything where there are people really.

sockarefootwear · 06/03/2024 18:38

A day at the races. I caved and went along once and can't imagine any activity ever bringing together more things that I hate. Having to 'dress up' and being expected to wear uncomfortable 'dressy' shoes, standing around for long periods of time, surrounded by people getting pissed in the middle of the day, having to pretend to be interested in watching something that I find mind numbingly boring, lots of mansplaining (from men how misinterpret my disinterest on betting as a failure to understand how it works) then a long drive home.

I have never been asked to go to a bottomless brunch but would have to pass. When I first heard of them I really wanted to go but then I found out that a) the bottomless bit is the alcohol not the food and b) you have a strict time limit. I imagined it as a way to spend a morning sitting with friends and chatting whilst being brought a never ending supply of lovely food!

WonderingWanda · 06/03/2024 18:40

Making an event out of clothes shopping, or clothes shopping in general. I hate it. Long telephone calls to 'catch up'. Dry January.
Reading biographies.

HeChokedOnAChorizo · 06/03/2024 18:40

Barbecues, hate them, ex loved them. When we split up I gave the barbecue away (gas one and was expensive) I intend to never have one again.

DP likes them as much as I do 😂

Musicals, can’t stand them.

RunningThroughMyHead · 06/03/2024 18:42

Long walks and trips to the park. I have young children and I'm so done with parks. The thought of spending two hours standing around in a park makes me want to shoot myself.

Aquamarine1029 · 06/03/2024 18:42

I'm reading everyone's contributions and nodding my head in agreement with essentially every one. Fucking hell, I'm a miserable old cow. 🤣

RunningThroughMyHead · 06/03/2024 18:43

Seeing people I'm not close to and drinking in groups. I find it all a bit try hard these days.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/03/2024 18:44

Also theme parks, and groups of women doing crochet/quilting and other handicrafts.

Gaming - makes me feel travel sick

Me too! I’m wondering what it is I actually like in life and at this moment in time it’s reading a damn good book/watching a damn good series with my log burner and cosy blanket on my sofa with a pick n mix 🤣🤣🤣
obvs this will be different in the summer!

Singing while someone plays a guitar - DH has a relative who takes his guitar everywhere with him and sits and strums away expecting us all to sing along. I can’t bear it. I cringe myself to death. My arse cheeks clench so tightly, I’m scared they’ll never unclench.

@alloalloallo

This sounds like the worst torture imaginable. I couldn't sit there and witness that.

God yes. And just when your thinking "Ok, I've got this, poker face is good" some fucker starts SWAYING! And everyone follows Grin

NotFastButFurious · 06/03/2024 18:57

Oh gawd, I forgot spa days!!
facials
Standing up buffets - impossible to hold a plate, drink and make polite conversation
conferences (often accompanied by a standing buffet!?

maddiemookins16mum · 06/03/2024 18:59

Anything on NYE. I just want to watch TV in my pyjamas, drink tea and eat a mint Aero instead of having to dress up and clock watch until midnight, then plan how soon I can leave after the bongs.

RaraRachael · 06/03/2024 19:05

Basically anything that involves getting "glammed up"

I'm in agreement with virtually all of these although I do like a day at the racing but just in normal clothes.

bellocchild · 06/03/2024 19:05

Book groups. (Being polite about other people's strange points of view!)

Also62 · 06/03/2024 19:07

Pub or charity quiz night. Competitive tables of non-entities. 😔
