Rain, mud, more rain and mud

I'm Moaning.

But is anyone else sick. To. Fucking. Death. Of the Fucking. Endless. Rain?

I'm peri menopausal, but fuck me, this weather is really getting me down. (And I know it's the weather because the very few dry days we've had, my mood is instantly lifted)

Please don't say I need to get out and go for a walk, get some fresh air (I've a dog and horse, so no matter the weather I'm out in it every day)

Is there anything I can do to cheer myself up? It's affecting my work as I'm just a grumpy bitch.

(it's been soooo bad on occasion I've even considered having my darling horse pts because I can't deal with it anymore)

Help. Please...

Kent is changeable,I'm ok with it (most days!)
It is confusing though.

OriginalFloorboards · 01/03/2024 22:18

Horses, cats and dogs here at home.

I only ever wear wellies, with mud sloshed up them. I constantly feel fed up with it. Slipping about in the mud then coming into the porch and dragging it all in.

Horses look as fed up as me.

Husband just opens the doors to the dogs and they scramble in over the clean floors (I go from 0 to screaming in 5 seconds flat!).

Today I got tacked up and went to ride and it just hammered it down and the wind got up. I’m not a fair weather rider but good lord give us a break.

I went and rode because otherwise we’d never get out.

Nothing to cheer you up, just a fellow equestrian also wondering if I’m really living the dream! 🫶🏻

It is miserable. So miserable. At this stage in the endless winter I always feel like I can’t go on but April is better!

This time last week, the forecast here was dry every day. Great we say, we can get out in the garden. Its pissed down every bloody day. Forecast for tomorrow is rain until 5pm then snow. Bloody sodding snow!

Hedonism · 01/03/2024 22:25

So. Much. Mud.

My ds is a rugby player and most of his matches this season have either been called off due to waterlogged pitches, or an absolute mud fest. My running has ground to a halt because I can't face running in the mud, even with my trail shoes on. Our cars are full of mud.

Clingfilm · 01/03/2024 22:46

Sick of it. Can't do anything to the garden, the house needs a paint, cycling for pleasure means cycling with rain in my eyes... it hasn't been dry enough to do simple things like hoover my car as I need the electric cable outside and it's never completely dried out at the side of my house as the sun doesn't reach there in winter, not that there has been any sun of course....

Maybe take a trip to Barcelona where they have had 1000 days without rain and are now in a state of emergency and have water rationed on a per person basis.

We had colleagues over in the uk this week from Barcelona - it's a shame we can't share the rainy days with them!

Funnily enough I AM taking a trip to Barcelona next week, for a big equestrian endurance competition just to the north. The weather forecast? Wall to wall rain next weekend. It’s forecast to snow on Sunday, so things could be worse!

I too am sick of the mud. I’ve spent thousands this year on attempting to beat the mud, but it is squelching round everywhere, deeper and muddier than I can ever recall it being.

Gumbear · 01/03/2024 22:58

I feel like this too. I have a horse who lives out 24/7 and despite mud mats in the field its just deep thick mud everywhere. Even the horses are starting to look miserable at being wet all the time. Can't do more than walk as the ground is so slippery so he is losing condition and looks thin and has lost muscle. Also has rainscald on his neck. Went out in the 20 mins break in the clouds today only to get caught in massive hailstorm which was really painful!

Cherrytrrr · 01/03/2024 22:59

Yes it’s insane. Wettest on record? I’m just thinking that surely SURELY it has to stop raining soon.

I have some hope as next week forecast is looking quite dry 🤞🤞🤞

Maverickess · 01/03/2024 23:04

Even my Spaniel is getting fed up with being walked in constant rain now, she's not the typical water dog that spaniels usually are but normally happy to go in after a stick or ball and splash about in muddy bits having a good sniff, she's avoiding those areas now as much as possible because it's just everywhere you go, goes after the ball or frisbee but not in her usual fashion because she's up to her ear'oles in mud every walk.
Much happier with a pavement walk if we can't get to the beach.

And as for the state of the JRT who's close to the floor 🤦 my boots and coat barely dry before next time and I'm concerned I'm going to wear out the windscreen wiper motor tbh!

Lacoutine · 01/03/2024 23:21

Another equestrian here and I’m not sure who is more fed up, me or the horse, who lives outside 24/7 though in a huge field so luckily not too muddy, just very squelchy. He hates having his legs hosed when we go out but it isn’t optional at the moment…
And the dog is small and low slung and hates doing his business outside in the rain Hmm
But it’s March now so surely spring must be round the corner Confused

feelingalittlehorse · 01/03/2024 23:42

OP. I hear you. I see you. I relate to you. 🤣🤣🤣

Fuck me, all I’ve been doing since about June last year is cleaning my dogs. Then cleaning the house because clearly Imm not cleaning the dogs well enough. Then repeat again later in the day.

I’m not even going to go there with the horses tbh. One lives out, and is absolutely filthy. One is in at night, and is absolutely filthy 🤣🤣🤣

feelingalittlehorse · 01/03/2024 23:42

I’m laughing because if I don’t, I’ll cry.

JamSandle · 01/03/2024 21:37

I find it really cosy and snuggly.

How do you find being wet and cold cozy and snuggly? I certainly didn't find it cosy and snuggly when I was getting battered by hail while walking the dogs earlier

AndThatWasNY · 01/03/2024 23:45

Apparently this is only going to get worse. Climate change is affecting the jet stream long-term and the UK will get colder and wetter for longer.

colouringindoors · 01/03/2024 23:47

I'm a gardener and YADDDDDDNBU.

Has been the wettest Feb on record. Everywhere is waterlogged. And yes, it's a bit better than Spain's drought but it's really bad for our agriculture too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2024 23:48

All I can say is Sad

Its really getting to me too. The almost endless grey, rain and mud. Parts of southern england had double its average feb rainfall and it was much duller than normal. It is just miserable.

We are moving into a time of less grey. There will still be rain , but generally more interspersed with sun. More daylight should help it feel better. We just need to hang in there.

Hmmmbetterchangethis · 01/03/2024 23:50

I started dog walking as a job in September, so it’s been a long few months………

Diversion · 01/03/2024 23:59

We planned to go away to Scotland in our bell tent next week as we do every year in March. Last year we had rain, hail, sleet, wind, frost and snow oh and -5C temps and absolutely loved every second as we have a woodburning stove. We have just cancelled as the ground was described as squidgy and we really dont want to end up with a muddy bell tent which we then have to bring into the house to dry. The fields around us in the NW are absolutely sodden and flooded and much as we are disappointed and are hardy campers a week with mud really would not be much fun.

FanSpamTastic · 02/03/2024 00:11

@backinthebox - maybe we cured the drought this week and managed to send home the bad weather with my colleagues 😂. They were the only ones not fed up with the rain!

OzziePopPop · 02/03/2024 00:13

Evenstar · 01/03/2024 18:51

I got chickens last summer, I think ducks would have been a better choice 😭

I have ducks and chickens and the ducks love the weather! The chickens sulk, inside!

We have dense, clay soil and literal puddles!

So yes, ducks love it, I hate it, chickens are insulted by it, like our cats!

Objectrelations · 02/03/2024 00:28

I cried in my dog walk yesterday because the wind and horizontal driving rain were lashing into my body and I felt hopeless.

Like. on. every. walk. since. November.

I just kept thinking 120 days, 120 effing days. Please stop!!

SOxon · 02/03/2024 01:07

nzeire · 01/03/2024 19:26

In Nz, I think it rained continuously for a YEAR last year.

it rained. And rained. And rained. People lost their houses through slips, orchards, livestock, it was horrendous

it dried up this summer and we are all bouncing like madzters!

sunmer soon guys x

I believe you! 20 years ago in SW France it rained from October until March,
with animals life was difficult. The yard was deep mud, wellies would become
stuck in it, La Poste could not reach us in his van, we could not even burn our rubbish,
good thing we had a good log supply, awful non idyllic life in France.
Friends and family didn’t believe and thought we were exaggerating.

It’s extremely dispiriting. We are near Oxford, low lying, fields flooded, deep roadside puddles, relentless rain and hail this morning, feeling like an extra in
Blade Runner.

Meadowfinch · 02/03/2024 01:23

Lying here listening to it hammering down outside.

No parkrun tomorrow I guess. 🙁

FunnysInLaJardin · 02/03/2024 01:31

its grim. Our tight tank is letting in ground water at such a rate we are having it emptied weekly. When it doesn't rain its monthly.

I am sick to death with it
