Rain, mud, more rain and mud

I'm Moaning.

But is anyone else sick. To. Fucking. Death. Of the Fucking. Endless. Rain?

I'm peri menopausal, but fuck me, this weather is really getting me down. (And I know it's the weather because the very few dry days we've had, my mood is instantly lifted)

Please don't say I need to get out and go for a walk, get some fresh air (I've a dog and horse, so no matter the weather I'm out in it every day)

Is there anything I can do to cheer myself up? It's affecting my work as I'm just a grumpy bitch.

(it's been soooo bad on occasion I've even considered having my darling horse pts because I can't deal with it anymore)

Help. Please...

Those of you with horses, can the rain and mud ever affect their hooves? I just imagine them getting soggier and soggier and getting horsey athletes foot!

Very envious of you. Horses are so beautiful.

Yes their hooves can get soft and they can get things like thrush and abcesses. And there's not much you can do about it if they live out. Mine is an idiot and gets scared in a stable and tries everything he can to escape, including throwing himself at the walls, so he lives out 24/7.

The rain is back and the snow is swiftly disappearing. We had an hour at 7am where all the local kids ran out to play and try and knock up a snowman. You have to snatch these moments when you can in this relentless misery.

That is the cutest saddest little wet snowman I've ever seen.

Thank you for posting - bless him!

Whereabouts in the SE are you ? I live in SE and it has pissed down for weeks . The land is saturated, fields underwater and fucking
potholes every where!! Have got through three tyres so far this winter!

ditto

I'm getting nervous to drive after nightfall as you can't tell what's just a wet bit of road/shallow puddle and what's a wheel crunching crater.

Some roads in my town are now impassable because of the horrific road surface. The potholes are all joining up to create mini grand canyons all over the place - huge patches of road that you have to veer around. New ones every day! It's bloody dangerous with all this traffic swerving around.

Sick of it. Can't do anything to the garden, the house needs a paint, cycling for pleasure means cycling with rain in my eyes... it hasn't been dry enough to do simple things like hoover my car as I need the electric cable outside and it's never completely dried out at the side of my house as the sun doesn't reach there in winter, not that there has been any sun of course....

I've just bought a eufy cordless hoover it's a game changer

PrincessHoneysuckle · 02/03/2024 11:14

Car hoover I mean

You would think he might prefer a stable in this weather, but clearly not! Bet he is lovely, though.

Escapetunnelalmostcomplete · 02/03/2024 11:42

My first thought when I saw the thread title was 'bet that's a horse owner.' I never usually mind the winter too much but the wet weather this year has been ridiculous. My horse is currently on his second lot of cellulitis and he's never had it before. Just so sick of it.

countrygirl99 · 02/03/2024 11:57

My hairy cob is usually pretty oblivious to the weather but he and his field mates were all standing at the gate looking miserable after a couple of hours this morning. The winter field is just a swamp of mud and all the summer fields have developed ponds that haven't drained away since way before Christmas.
The bridleways are all boggy/flooded so we are restricted to road routes, normally we hardly touch the roads.
Dog walking is just horrible, even my spaniels are happy with short walks.
The village High Street has been closed due to flooding 3 times this winter - that's as many times as the last 22 years we've been here put together. And it's not due to new building because there has hardly been any.
We are in one of the driest parts of the country but it's clay. I'd love to know where anyone who reckons it hasn't been particularly wet this winter lives because I'd like to move there.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/03/2024 12:22

I think somewhere in the northwest of Scotland would have been peoples best bet this winter - though of course an average winter for them would normally be considered a wet winter down south.

It comes on top of a wetter than average summer and autumn 2023 and indeed, in England a wetter than average Spring 2023 too.

It's not just been the above average rainfall that has caused the mud and flood issue, but also the lack of sunshine. Though it's not very strong in the winter, it does make a bit of a difference to drying out the ground.

Rain, mud, more rain and mud
Rain, mud, more rain and mud
Rain, mud, more rain and mud
OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/03/2024 12:25

I am baffled by the poster who says it has been a lovely winter! I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder because the empirical evidence is that unless you like grey skies and drowning mud, then in the SE it has been a pretty poor winter.

This is mumsnet. There are a disproportionate number of posters who hate sunny weather.

I wont complain i live alone so only me to care about.

and sod everyone else @lambhotpot? What an unutterably selfish viewpoint Hmm

I cried this morning when I saw it was raining yet again.
My mood is so low as are my energy levels. I need to be outdoors I just do and I can't we'll not at least without being cold and wet.
I spent an hour at my new allotment just measuring and poking about, and even though it was grey and cold and wet I feel a bit better for it.
But an hour and I was frozen despite all the layers and couldn't do much because of the mud.
i cannot take much more of this weather 😔

tryingtohelp82 · 02/03/2024 12:50

The cold can stay, the wet can sod off.

Cherrytrrr · 02/03/2024 13:05

The sun is out here 🎉🍾

Sunny tomorrow and I’ve yet looked for at the forecast for next week and no rain forecast! Hopefully we’ve finally got out of this wet spell.

Mollyplop999 · 03/03/2024 11:35

Yay!!! The sun is out. It makes you feel so much better ☀️. The ponies had a play this morning. Hope it's brighter for everyone.

RampantIvy · 03/03/2024 11:42

It's great isn't it? I did a fitness class this morning because I felt so much more motivated, and I have washing on the line. Off for a walk later.

AngeloMysterioso · 03/03/2024 11:43

I have a 4yo, a 2yo and a 4mo. Our local playground is flooded, the field around it is a bog, and my elder two’s enthusiasm for going out in puddle suits and wellies ran out quite some time ago, and at home they’re like caged animals. It’s utterly fucking miserable.

I’ll never forget a thread a few years back where someone was complaining about what a wet summer it had been- cue loads of miserable people talking about how they hate sun, hate warmth, can’t stand it when the mercury rises above tepid- and one poster said “love this summer, love the rain.”

Yeah, I'd love to know where this 'lovely winter' has been, as well (SW London).

Do these people never like being outdoors?

We just did a walk along a road yesterday, and one of the fields that is on a slope had every dip filled in with water so that it looks like it has loads of ponds. I have never seen it look like this before. The ground is so saturated that the water has nowhere to go.

Agree, I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old and fucking hell it’s been a miserable autumn/winter. Endless rain and mud, both of our Halloween events were rained off, Christmas was crap, endless weekends sat indoors or trying to figure out what we can do which is under a roof and not going to break the bank.

I’m going to be completely honest and say there seems to be a certain ‘type’ that love lockdowns/rain/bad weather (won’t say any more) and they also usually have very large houses and gardens to enjoy their gloominess in. When you live in a small house or flat with little kids this antisocial world full of rain and mud is miserable.

Nanny0gg · 03/03/2024 16:39

I live in what is supposedly the driest part of England

Today is the first day without rain so at least roads will be passable

I dread to think how long it will take for the fields to dry out

And as for the bloody potholes...

OldSpeclkledHen · 03/03/2024 18:44

A dry day here too!! Hallelujah 🙌
Thanks to all for commiserating with me and making me feel not quite so alone 🙂 (esp all you fellow equestrians 🙂)

Where on earth do you all live????
I'm in the south east and we haven't had non stop rain at all. It's been a lovely winter. We've filled it with wonderful countryside walks and heavenly evenings spent in front of our log burner. I don't actually want the winter to end yet!
February has just been declared the warmest February on record by the way.

You are bloody joking aren't you? I'm in the SE and it's been relentless. The warmest AND the wetest February on record, nothing to be happy about that's for sure, climate crisis in action

43ontherocksporfavor · 03/03/2024 19:04

Dry week ahead I think.🤞🏻
