I'm Moaning.

But is anyone else sick. To. Fucking. Death. Of the Fucking. Endless. Rain?

I'm peri menopausal, but fuck me, this weather is really getting me down. (And I know it's the weather because the very few dry days we've had, my mood is instantly lifted)

Please don't say I need to get out and go for a walk, get some fresh air (I've a dog and horse, so no matter the weather I'm out in it every day)

Is there anything I can do to cheer myself up? It's affecting my work as I'm just a grumpy bitch.

(it's been soooo bad on occasion I've even considered having my darling horse pts because I can't deal with it anymore)

Help. Please...

A surprise this morning, snow!
That wasn't on the forecast. A good couple of centimetres already and still falling hard.

Crumpetdisappointment · 02/03/2024 06:46

to get to some fields with my ddog i have to walk through woods, currently with a stream flowing through the path.
i fell yesterday and twisted my leg on the slippery path,
my car is leaking
it has been raining non stop since october!
or so if it feels

just when you think spring has arrived and can admire the daffodils along comes the rain again

Hoglet70 · 02/03/2024 06:54

This weather is vile! The only bright spot in my life is I've been ill in bed for the whole of Feb so I've had an excuse not to go outside in it and get covered in mud. Every time DH and DDog go outside they seem to come back in a thick coating of the stuff. DDog has never smelt so good, she's had so many baths!

One of the ponies at our yard has taken to breaking out of the field and going back to his stable.

SometimesIchangemyname · 02/03/2024 07:04

I live in town in a little strip between the river and a town centre full of restaurants and cinema and shops. River burst its banks weeks ago so can’t go for my daily walk. The town centre is rammed with cars every weekend as people desperately try and find something to do out of the rain. So miserable.
I just want to be able to sit on a bench. 🥲

mitogoshi · 02/03/2024 07:07

Perhaps it depends where you are, I don't think it's any wetter than normal. I'm getting a bit fed up with the flooding locally to me but that's due to low lying land and poor design and planning!

Fairyliz · 02/03/2024 07:11

AndThatWasNY · 01/03/2024 23:45

Apparently this is only going to get worse. Climate change is affecting the jet stream long-term and the UK will get colder and wetter for longer.

But do they actually know? Not long ago they were saying it was going to get hotter and dryer and we were being advised to drought proof our gardens.

DanglingMod · 02/03/2024 07:13

Yeah, it's not that bad here, either. Definitely wetter than normal and we have had wet weeks and local flooding, but not non-stop rain, gardens certainly aren't boggy, most of the rain is overnight and we've sat at outside tables at cafes all year round, as we normally do, all winter. Must be an East v West thing, as per.

Tiddlywinks63 · 02/03/2024 07:15

Oh my goodness! I wasn’t expecting this although we had icy rain, hail and sleet yesterday interspersed with bright sunshine.
Already there’s reports of the main road being impassable because of ice and cars stuck on the hills so no way am I driving down the narrow lanes to get anywhere!

Rain, mud, more rain and mud
Offonagadwaddick · 02/03/2024 07:17

I use a wheelchair and it is impossible to get out sometimes. I get stuck in the mud while walking the dog, the potholes are enormous and filled with water so you don’t know they’re there and when I get home I’ve got to clean everything inc the dog before being able to get in the house. Roll on summer!!

piscofrisco · 02/03/2024 07:23

It's bloody disgusting. We are away for the weekend and we were looking forward to swimming in the outdoor pool, walking etc. forecast, rain, sleet, rain, rain.
We do a lot of driving and I've just been aquaplainjng about the place for about four days now.
The dogs are fed up and don't want to go out. I am fed up and don't want to go out.

CoverStories · 02/03/2024 07:23

Where on earth do you all live????
I'm in the south east and we haven't had non stop rain at all. It's been a lovely winter. We've filled it with wonderful countryside walks and heavenly evenings spent in front of our log burner. I don't actually want the winter to end yet!
February has just been declared the warmest February on record by the way.

whataretherulesss · 02/03/2024 07:31

It's awful isn't it. Rural dweller here and I'm just sick of it. I'm a farmer's daughter, so it's not like I moved to the countryside and am surprised it's muddy, but this is something else.

Our neighbouring farmer spread slurry on the field next door to us this week, so now our lane and therefore our cars are covered in slurry as well as mud.

I've given up washing my car because it doesn't last a day. I just wipe the number plate clean now. Don't care about having a muddy car, but every time the kids get in and out they brush against the mud, so they go into school with muddy trousers then bring all the mud indoors.

No horses or dogs, but I've got free range chickens who spend most of their time sheltering in the porch so now there's always chicken crap in the porch. Daft things won't shelter in their lovely purpose built run. One has stopped laying and it think that's because of the weather.

My husband says I look like Mrs Tweedy because I just wear wellies and my big coat all the time.

We've got building work starting after Easter. I'm praying it dries up a bit before then otherwise that will just add to it. They've got to take the top soil down to the bottom of our field and if it's as wet as it is now it'll make a right mess.

transformandriseup · 02/03/2024 07:33

South West. I don't think we have had a day without rain for about 3 months. Everywhere is waterlogged.

ohtowinthelottery · 02/03/2024 07:47

We usually do a lot of walking but it's becoming impossible to find a route that's not flooded. This has been going on since November.
DS decided to go for a walk last weekend to get to a specific place. I thought I'd found him a route that would avoid most wet fields (so mainly lanes) but even the lane 1/2 mile out of the village was still flooded and we hadn't had any significant rain for a few days. There's just nowhere for the water to go now.
DH organises a monthly group walk. He's had to cancel one for the first time in years due to the torrential rain (and consequent flooding) the day before, and he is now running out of ideas for routes that won't have us all knee deep in mud.
Time to start building an ark!

East Anglia here: warmest and wettest on record.

What is the impact of the warmest and wettest February on record on our county?

The Met Office has said East Anglia has seen its wettest as well as warmest February on record. We look at the impact on the county.

@CoverStories we may have dry days but it is still very muddy
we are in March now,
we need the mud to go!

lambhotpot · 01/03/2024 21:32

I love the rain wish it would rain every day.
Thunderstorms are the best.

I'm trying to think of a polite response to this but am failing Hmm

We need some dry weather. The farmers need dry weather.

garlictwist · 02/03/2024 08:19

I find it hard to believe it's been a warm Februray. Live in a hilly part of Yorkshire and we've had a lot of hill snow (woke up to more this morning). I think the rain and mud are normal, we just forget it over summer and block it out.

CoverStories · 02/03/2024 08:45

The article does also state it's been the wettest February too.
I must live in a little bubble in the south east as it honestly hasn't rained much here at all.
Without doubt I can guarantee we will still get a hosepipe ban come June/July.

Drearydiedre · 02/03/2024 08:49

We live in a rural part of the country and have always enjoyed wellie walks...the paths are now too muddy to walk. I literally have to winch my smaller children out mud holes every time we leave the house which usually results in wellies coming off and the child the child ending up with mud covered socks. There's a path down the river we used to walk down to school put it is too dangerous as the river is so high and the banks so muddy. The fields by our house are partially flooded for the first time ever and the garden is so sodden we need waders to fill the bird feeders.

It is more depressing than dark mornings and cold temperatures. YANBU and I don't know how you are coping with horses!

Lindy2 · 02/03/2024 08:52

It's pouring down again here. Not cold but so wet and we have another Environment Agency flood alert.

We went away for a long weekend in Rome a couple of weeks ago. It was sunny and about 18 degrees. I think that little taste of sunshine has made the return to the endless rain that little bit harder. It was a fabulous trip though.

I live in the South. I think there is possibly a difference in perception of the weather determined by whether you go outside when the weather is nice and can hole yourself up inside when it’s not, vs those who must be outside. I’m in the must be outside bracket, and I’ve never had enough of the rain before, but this year I’ve had enough. I can normally enjoy whatever the weather throws at us - I have all the right clothing. Normally it’s a novelty to put the long waterproof riding coats on and feel smug we have the right clothes, but this year I’m fed up of having to wear the long heavy stuff which drags in the mud all the time. By some miracle our horses don’t have mud fever this year, but that’s no fun either - trying to get the horses’ legs clean and dry enough that you can put a layer of mud barrier on before you send them back out into the swamp.
