Rain, mud, more rain and mud

I'm Moaning.

But is anyone else sick. To. Fucking. Death. Of the Fucking. Endless. Rain?

I'm peri menopausal, but fuck me, this weather is really getting me down. (And I know it's the weather because the very few dry days we've had, my mood is instantly lifted)

Please don't say I need to get out and go for a walk, get some fresh air (I've a dog and horse, so no matter the weather I'm out in it every day)

Is there anything I can do to cheer myself up? It's affecting my work as I'm just a grumpy bitch.

(it's been soooo bad on occasion I've even considered having my darling horse pts because I can't deal with it anymore)

Help. Please...

I’m going to be completely honest and say there seems to be a certain ‘type’ that love lockdowns/rain/bad weather (won’t say any more) and they also usually have very large houses and gardens to enjoy their gloominess in. When you live in a small house or flat with little kids this antisocial world full of rain and mud is miserable.

I agree. Or people that never set foot outside.

I'm with you on the potholes @Nanny0gg. I had to zig zag back home today after our walk.

I saw the title of your thread and KNEW you must have horses or livestock.

Facebook memories keeps showing me the horses out 24/7 at this time of year in dry fields. This year I'm wondering when we will have a few days dry enough to get the foaling box thoroughly disinfected.

The local farmer is already doom and gloom about his 2024 hay crop. That's one thing you can guarantee in life - hay prices will keep on rising

A few hours of sunshine this afternoon and it felt like a miracle!
Oxfordshire here and there has literally been no where to walk my dog that isn't flooded unless we stay on the streets..which we both hate. I don't mind a bit of rain but the relentless sogginess, so many roads cut off with flooding, and the bloody pot holes everywhere. Give me cold frosty mornings any day over this.

I took on an allotment in November... the only things thriving there at the moment are a family of newts!

Absolutely pissing with rain here AGAIN.

Mollyplop999 · 04/03/2024 13:14

Naptrappedmummy i don't believe it! We've actually had some sun this morning but it's cloudy now

OriginalFloorboards · 04/03/2024 15:28

We’ve had sun too…frost this morning which froze our mud for the horses.

It actually made me feel in a good mood mucking out.

I went to marks and Spencer’s and bought some absolutely fab thermal long wellie socks and short thermal socks in the sale. I still don’t believe the cold and rain are over!

£4 for long ones with 2 pairs and not fluffy on the outside so better for loose hay in wellies and £2 for 2 pairs of short ones!

Is it sad I’m so excited by these purchases given our weather?

It's been absolutely foul here all night and all day so far - torrential rain, gusty squally wind, it's so dark inside I have all the lights on. My garden is a quagmire and we're all feeling really grumpy. We just need some light!

transformandriseup · 04/03/2024 16:17

It's finally brightening up here after another day of rain.

Early today I was out for a walk in wellies and stepped off the side of the road for a car to pass only to instantly sink into thick mud which came right up to the top of my boots. I had to physically pull them out with both hands to escape the mud. I don't think the fields can take any more rain.

We have the opposite in central/ southern Europe. Mountains here, and it’s usually under snow Dec- end March. I think it’s snowed max 3 times, and that was 5-20cm maximum. Melted within days. Otherwise it’s been bone dry. It started Raining instead of snow about 10 days ago, but that’s been a few hours of Rain. The local ski resorts are closing, and it’s been too warm to use snow cannons even if they wanted to. We have had 15+ degree sunshine in most of January and February, so we have been gardening (sorting compost/ building stuff), which is unheard off.
Im pretty worried for the summer here tbh. We have woods right behind us which are super dry and will be dangerous in forest fire scenario, I think fire bans are already in place.

Mollyplop999 · 04/03/2024 18:33

OriginalFloorboards you become grateful for any small mercy that makes life easier. I was virtually skipping across the field today to poo pick as it was frozen 😁. The ponies were really frisky too.

It's ok I have all but guaranteed a dry winter next year. I finally got sick of pumping out my overflowing water butts and got rid of them. (Water just goes straight into the drain now). Thus ensuring that I will be kicking myself when we have drought this summer and I can't water the garden.
You're all welcome 😁

I'm busy knitting thick sweaters so that should help too.
