I had no idea he was ill. Condolences to his family.

I've just seen this, I don't think he was ill, he was working last Sunday.

Gosh how sad. I have such good memories of him from my childhood! DH just told me that he was recently 'pulled' from BBC radio, which I think upset him quite a bit.

Apparently his Sunday show was pre-recorded but perhaps they all were. I'm truly shocked and saddened. A friend emailed to tell me about 10 minutes ago.

I've never been so shocked by the death of someone that I've never met

When working and visiting clients in their homes, I listen to him on Radio 1 anf ' Mr Angry' at times I listen to him at work - then Radio 2

I was upset he was moved from his slot recently

Great chap who brought smiles, laugher and happiness into many lives

I used to listen to him on Radio 1 and saw him at the Radio 1 roadshow at Longleat as a teen

Sunday Love Songs has always been pre recorded earlier in the same week, so although he wasn't there on Sunday he would have been working just a few days before.

I'm so sad to hear this. I know lots of people on here found him too cheesy, but I've really missed him on the weekday afternoon show. He was always so cheery and enthusiastic. RIP Steve.

I'm really shocked too. Was only listening to him at the weekend. Think Sara Cox getting upset has made me feel the same.
Been listening to him since I was a small child.

News doesn't often surprise me but I actually spoke outlook when the radio came in when I got in the car leaving work

He hasn't looked great for a while but I didn't know he was actually ill

I was shocked but he didn’t look healthy in his later years, so I’m shocked but not surprised.

He wasn't pulled from the BBC, he was still doing Sunday Love Songs and has recently taken over Pick of the Pops and was advertising another one off special show.

He had retired from his afternoon show and he made it clear it was his choice.

so very sad, he presented love songs on sunday as usual.

What will we do on Sunday mornings? 😢

We used to listen to love songs in the long drive to visit my elderly FIL every week.
Everyone I grew up with is now dying.
