I'd quite like a vaguely clean house, I can only dream of such things!
I daren't moan about the weather but I've been inside a lecture hall with 400 other people and no air con today. I'm warm and a bit worn out. Plus it's usually a wfh day so no idea what day it is and tomorrow I'll be really confused as I'm also on a half day.
No exciting jobs done here, the new kettle is working well, and we had a beige freezer meze dinner last night which emptied it out. I then did a supermarket sweep shop during the football, the place was empty.
Tonight I need to sort dc2's PE kit - I think it's in the ironing pile, sports day is looming.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/06/2024 18:02

Katie, heat is so exhausting. Good decision to shop diring football! 💡
Froggy, I hate that worn down feeling. Give yourself a break. 💕
Summer, very impressive accomplishments! 👐
Single, glad you had a nice break! 😀

Havoc is definitely wearing me out by waking earlier. I should get myself to bed at a decent time, though. 🤔
Managed two loads of laundry and vacuumed first thing this morning and now having a "lie down" 🫣🤣 before needing to get ready for appt.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/06/2024 20:05

Wasn't able to fall asleep.😕
Have now steam-mopped floors, area rugs and front/back of door. Baby is half-dressed and nursing. Clothes laid out for Havoc. Looking on track to being out the door in about 40 mins. 🤞

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/06/2024 01:33

Managed to get to appt, grocery store and home within 2 1/2 hours. Another load of laundry on and popped a tray of meatballs in the oven for dinner. I have grand plans to sort the linen closet and bake a cake once dc are asleep.

Frostandfrogs · 27/06/2024 05:50

@RunningKatie I know that confusion well!

@Mumtobabyhavoc you accomplishments inspire my awe 💐

I slept like the dead last night after awful night on Tuesday. Until 4.15 and I've been up ever since. But it was glorious seeing dawn break so I'm happy.

I did not much around the house yesterday, though essentials were done. Back on it today- a belated flylady home blah which will include washing our bedding.

A little cooler today I hope - though still nice and bright and warm!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/06/2024 06:45

So glad you got some sleep 🐸
I haven't sorted the linen closet, but dc are fast asleep and I've got a cake in the oven. I've also got a series on Amazon Prime right now. Watching tv without interruptions.... 🤗

Frostandfrogs · 27/06/2024 08:44

Thank you @Mumtobabyhavoc and I love how you put the frog emoji for me 😘

Go you, getting the tv with no interruption!

Happily enjoying a much more reasonable temperature today. I don't cope well with humidity- am a skier not a sunbather!

Smug soup and menu planning currently ongoing. Otherwise a fairly peaceful and almost other human free day today (rare!) so I intend to spend quite a bit of it with my nose in a book. Current interest: novels set in Alaska. It's the one place in the US that I think I'd like to see. Though I think it's actually the history that I am enjoying, so books will suffice.

I hope all is well for you all ☕

SummerLobelia · 27/06/2024 14:21

Afternoon all. Hope you get some sleep @Mumtobabyhavoc and glad you did (at least until dawn) @Frostandfrogs !

Some things achieved here.

  1. tidied for the cleaner
  2. decided to spend as much time in the garden I could manage before becoming bored and lasted 45 minutes but managed to do alot of wedding of the path; wedding of pots, tying back of various climbers and deadheaded some roses.
  3. Planted a cucumber plant just to see if we can manage to grow anything
  4. One load of washing and ironing

Now I am sitting down and waiting for the garage to call as DH's car is in for its MOT.

Hope everyone has a lovely day!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/06/2024 15:54

What did your smug soup consist of today, Froggy? I'd like to get into a book, too, but I started one a year and a half ago and, well...🤷‍♀️
Summer, about 5 hours. Will need a nap/to go back to bed. You've reminded me I need to weed my garden...

Not happy with the cake I baked last night. The two layers aren't tall enough. Recipe said batter would be enough for two 9" or three 8" rounds. I have two 8" rounds. So, I either remake it and see if I can do better, likely double the recipe, or buy one.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/06/2024 17:35

Have got another cake in the oven. Made half of the recipe to add another layer. Decided it might be a poundcake, but I'm not a pro baker. I'll bask in my delicious icing instead. And I've got a load of laundry in.
Need to get to Costco, thaw and cook the duck i forgot to take out of the freezer 🤦‍♀️ wrap prezzie and decorate, which I'll do once dc are asleep.

SingleThreadJoiner · 27/06/2024 22:30

@SummerLobelia well done on the easy tax return 😃and @Frostandfrogs I like the idea of Alaska-themed novels!

So not only did I call the GP yesterday to book my smear, but they gave me an appointment for today, so that's all done and dusted now!

Also finished writing the D's birthday invites, and done two loads of laundry, and the online grocery shopping.

The evening was a bit derailed by the fact that when we came back from swimming lessons, my key would just not turn in the lock - it's a fussy lock at the best of times, and I guess the heat had done something to either the door's wood or the lock itself. I sat the child on the drive with videos on my phone and tried and tried but was worried I would just snap the key, so after 20 minutes I gave up and summoned the H who had been at a work do - luckily not very far away at all. He couldn't get my key to work, but his did! Very peculiar! We really need to just change the lock altogether...

PILs arriving tomorrow and staying for ten days, which includes us all going to a family wedding next weekend - must do some house tidying 😱

Peridot1 · 28/06/2024 09:28

Hello all.

I’m still here but have managed to ignore the thread for a few days. Nothing personal! I think I’m feeling like I’m not achieving much list and task wise so avoiding the feeling.

I won’t tag people as will be here all day but hi to all.

However we have actually achieved quite a bit this week.

Emptied all the furniture in DS’s room that was going to charity. Ditto my dresser in the dining area. And all the furniture was collected yesterday. Including a picture we weren’t keen on and a wrought iron wine rack.

DS has way too many clothes so I’m hoping to get him to sort through some before his wardrobes are built and we put everything away.

Joiner is coming this afternoon after ignoring us for a couple of months. Hoping to get everything finalised plan-wise and that he will start ASAP.

DS announced yesterday that he has a friend coming to stay tonight. Great. We now need to tidy and make up the spare room. So he can help me with that this afternoon. It’s fine and we love the friend but timing could have been better.

And my other main task today is to start the ironing pile. It’s grown a lot. More than even I know really as I hid some of it. Might rewash some shirts to iron them damp.

Also need to change my bed.

Have a great day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 28/06/2024 10:42

Morning, where is the morning going. Second gym session down and am very glad it is Friday.
@Peridot1 that brings back memories of my missing joiner from earlier in the year!

Today

  1. order new debit card as I've given up looking for mine - DONE
  2. pay a parking fine I got in Cornwall
  3. finish cleaning car - the doggy smell is now masked with toxic cleaning spray. It needs a good hoover
  4. there is a lot of clutter around the house - clean clothes, SpiritDoggo stuff, towels and empty cups. I keep swiping things up to put in a pile: the piles need to be in their final homes by end of the day.
  5. put the covers back on the outside bikes. We have rain!
That all for today, have a good one, SoE
Frostandfrogs · 29/06/2024 13:57

Hi all and lovely to 'see' you again @Peridot1 👋
Mum the soup was leftovers so a sweated onion base as always, then whatever was needing to be got rid of. I started writing the list but it'll bore you all to tears so suffice to say I think I squeezed at least ten veg plus some dried herbs, chopped cold chicken, a bit of bone broth and ( don't tell DH!) some ground flaxseed.

The freezer is full to the brim now!

Is it Havoc's birthday? I hope whoever it is has a lovely birthday. Our littlest is off to a party this afternoon. They happen almost every weekend don't they?

Another one with probable ADHD @SummerLobelia ? I am not very good at doing anything for much more than 15 minutes, so your 45min gardening session sounds like a win!

Bah to the forrin parking fine @SpiritOfEdna

I hope everyone's weekend is going well! Ours has been small child filled so we are fairly weary now they've all gone. Short break and then to clear up the wreckage. Small children really do leave trails of destruction!

And of course, quite a lot of washing!

This week DH has been banned from shopping so I can concentrate on using up what we've got, evem if we are on corned beef hash with everything in it out of the store cupboard by Friday. The soup will do lunches.

Does anybody else stash bits of meat from a roast in the freezer to avoid thinking about it? I need to use up cold meat from the freezer this week.

Happy Saturday and I'm off to read my book. I want to finish it so I can start 'Two Old Women' by Velma Wallis, as recommended by somebody somewhere on MN.

petalpower · 29/06/2024 17:37

I’m still here but have just been reading and not posting. Auntie’s funeral was yesterday - it all went well; tears, memories and some laughter too. I may possible have overindulged in the post funeral drinking and have been a little delicate today. I’m in a concert tonight and still have family staying with more friends due for lunch tomorrow for a post funeral get together.
I’ll be back with you all again next week when the dust has settled.

DatingDinosaur · 29/06/2024 18:46

Very productive day today!

Chiropody appointment
Shopping (for food not fun)
Blitzed my bedroom and rehomed Sid The Spider
Cut the grass
Sorted my post out
Repaired my blinds
Cleared the Table of Trouble and relocated all the crap on there to their correct places

Still left to do:
Eat my dinner
Wash the pots
Nice shower
Watch a few Youtube vids
Climb into my nice clean bed
Have The Best Night's Sleep Ever

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/06/2024 23:33

Hope you're having a nice visit with PIL, Single. Sounds busy for you with guests, party planning, wedding, Peridot, don't underestimate your progress! Cleaning out a room and closet are huge tasks, not to mention the other task re the joiner.
🐸That's quite a lot you've got on! Good for you!
"Birthday" for baby was celebrating 6 months yesterday. (It's a thing now, I've discovered.) I've decided to take every opportunity to have fun and frivolity (😁 for word use ) as life has taught me a few harsh lessons and my dc were a very long time coming. 💕 So balloons, banner, special dinner and cake were required. 😋 More on that in a sec.
Petal, just sending you some love and support. You've got a lot to process. I'm glad you're meeting with friends for lunch. 💕
@DatingDinosaur are you new here or a reg who has nc'd? I really like your post! Lots done and inspiring! 😃
I especially like your Table of Trouble phrase. I have a Horror Bedroom that I'm working on.

Speaking of Horror Bedroom... I took three boxes of baby/toddler clothes to thrift store yesterday (finally!!!). Put two suitcases, a smallish box of bottles and breast pump into the closet (out of sight, out of mind?) and have started mulling over the resumption of painting job. 🙃🤔😲 Was bragging 🙄about how good I am at it and fixing baseboard and doorframe gaps, soooo...
The cake fiasco in a nutshell: used a new recipe and felt cake was too heavy to use as a layer cake. And icing was too runny. Put it together anyway and decorated it "for pictures," but ran out to Whole Foods and bought a back-up cake (chocolate Oreo cake). Mine looks great in photos (lemon yellow and flavoured and covered in bright colourful sprinkles) as long as you don't look too closely. Definitely not professional looking, but ok. Anyway...tasted great! 🤷‍♀️ (and the chocolate cake wasn't so bad either!!)
Dinner was good (roasted a duck with potatoes, corn on the cob a d garlic bread). So, all in all things worked out.
Besides all the food shopping and prep last few days, did basic cleaning and laundry yesterday. Washed kitchen floor before going to bed last night. Got into garden today and tidied it/weeded for about an hour and it's ready for new plants. Picked the lettuce.
DC are still napping, so I'm about to do same. 🥱

Frostandfrogs · 30/06/2024 06:42

@DatingDinosaur 👋 and @Mumtobabyhavoc what whirling dervishes you are! Happy six months to BabyHavoc What is the age gap between them?

I have started my day in the garden once again. We have a little courtyard area and it's very peaceful at this time of day.

I am combining doing nothing but watching the birds with writing a list of my grand plans for today and this week. I still aspire to actually getting my act together one day and being an organised human.

Having said that, one of my DC described me as 'steadfast' recently and that probably comes up higher on any list of virtues . Though one can be both, of course!

Right, wordle won't do itself!

Have a great weekend! @SingleThreadJoiner I hope you are having a good weekend with your folks!

Peridot1 · 30/06/2024 09:41

Morning all!

Some great things being achieved.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - can’t believe baby is 6 months! That went quickly. Cake sounds lovely. I love your idea of taking every chance for fun and frivolity. A great plan. And well done on surviving six months with a toddler and a baby! It’s an achievement!

@petalpower - an emotional time for sure. Hope you get some time to rest and just be once everyone has left.

Hi @DatingDinosaur - good list!

@Frostandfrogs - I suspect a bit of ADD here too. No H though! Maybe ADPD. Attention Deficit Procrastination disorder!

Got up to rain here this morning which was annoying as it wasn’t on the forecast and we didn’t cover the cushions on the garden furniture. It’s stopped now thankfully.

Plans here today:

  1. dishwasher/kitchen
  2. vacuum
  3. garden centre to buy some replacements for the geranium plug plants we bought in April and which were potted on and in the greenhouse for ages and planted out three weeks ago and have done nothing. Still minute with no roots to speak of.
  4. clear out under DS’s bed. It’s one of those with storage underneath.
  5. get DS to spend 20 minutes going through some clothes

Have a great day all.

SummerLobelia · 30/06/2024 09:53

Hi all,

Possibly ADD here. At least... watching DH run around for 20 minutes in a panic searching for his car keys that were in his own pocket all the time made me think this.

Not much going on here. DH is out at his Manly Hobby all day. I am doing some volunteer work at the local theatre coffee fundraiser this afternoon, the Dcs are chilling out and fish and chips is on the agenda for lunch. I may tidy the kitchen but maybe not (DH said he will do it when he gets back and I might just let him).

Our last week of school is ahead of us. It's a mad week with school prize giving (compulsory); the leaver's assembly; school play; school concert and sports day. I am really looking forward to noon Friday. Personally I think it's too much to pack into one week, but never mind.

So I might not be achieving all that much this week! Just getting through is the aim!

Have a lovely Sunday everyone. Thanks Welcome to @DatingDinosaur !

SummerLobelia · 30/06/2024 09:55

And also many Thanks and hugs to @petalpower . An emotional time and much love to you and your family. xx

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/06/2024 20:19

Good morning, well, afternoon now, everyone. 😊
DC are 27mos apart. And YES 6 mos has sped by. A bit of, whew, I made it, mixed with where is my teeny curled up baby?
I love that you are going out to your garden first thing Frosty. Such a peaceful way to begin a Sunday morning.
Summer, it must be such a long school year for you over there! Ours ends mid-June until after Labour Day. So, two clear months off with a bit at both ends.
Peridot, that's a lot for a Sunday! Hope you're getting a break. 😊

Have been going non-stop since waking just over three hours ago: on third load of laundry including one bed stripped and changed; pancakes made for brekkie and all cleaned up and a bit of floor and baseboard wiping.
Just waiting to hang up laundry then will head out to take in a bit of a free concert that's part of our Jazz fest. If we don't get out in time will have to find alternate plan.

www.coastaljazz.ca

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/06/2024 21:29

Since last post have tidied and purged top shelf of linen/everything hall closet!!! Meant cleaning storage bin that has been sitting outside on deck since Sept, which was probably why I've been procrastinating on this task. 🤔 Folded sheets/blankets I'm keeping and packed inside. Now have two sets of sheets and a fleece blanket to donate. Consolidated contact lens cleaning items into zip bags and placed into larger zip bag to keep together and placed into 2nd shelf bin with their boxes into recycling. Sheets from bed 2 now in dryer. Baby awake and nursing. Havoc down for nap. 👍👍👍 Got Spain/Georgia soccer on.

SingleThreadJoiner · 30/06/2024 21:57

Hello everyone, hope you had good weekends, and big hugs to @petalpower .

@Mumtobabyhavoc the schoolyear goes on for aaaages, until July 19 here, but then again we just have to scramble to fill weeks and weeks with holiday clubs since we can't take 6 weeks of leave so 🙃but at least with the holiday clubs it's a chance for the kiddos to try different things (if so inclined), we're doing three days here, three days there, testing out new places, so we'll see what is most successful.

PILs are being very kind and doing lots of kitchen tidying up every evening so I appreciate it. Got super-knackered yesterday at the school summer fair, being One Of Those PTA Mums I was there setting up from 9-11, manning stalls for three hours, and then another hour tidying up - in the blazing sunshine - but it was a great success, and kids and headteacher happy, so I suppose it was for a good cause. Not much happened today house-wise - just catching up on a bit of life admin online.
