That's an impressive hide from those library books @RunningKatie! Hope you had a good sleep and are feeling more rested.
👋 @Peridot1 and sorry about the incoming upheaval! I'm sure it will be worth it!

Today's upheaval here will be doing something about our larder. DH likes to keeps it stashed right up, and I need to rearrange it a bit so I can pinch a shelf for some pans that currently have no home and I keep having to move them when they get in my way. And I do really need to start doing the shopping as he tends to go rogue in the supermarket, with or without a list.

Best of luck tracking down the Pisti @Mumtobabyhavoc I'm tempted to use that window covering in our upstairs windows. Might start with the spare room. Is it easy to remove? My daughter has some in her flat and I love the rainbow prisms.

Your holiday sounds perfect @petalpower Just what you need!

Have a great day everyone and hoping to see more pics of pretty pots for inspiration @SpringLobelia 🙏

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/06/2024 07:17

Froggy, you smooth it on with any plastic straight edge using nothing but water on a very clean window. Tricky at first. Peel off to remove. No glue. Just water adhesion to vinyl. Check it out on Amazon. Vinyl window cover, or window film. There are how to videos as well when you view a peoduct. Also different levels of clear/opaque frosted to blackout. Colour to none. Endless patterns or none.

Frostandfrogs · 05/06/2024 09:26

Thank you @Mumtobabyhavoc 💐

SummerLobelia · 05/06/2024 09:56

seasonal namechange. [twirl].

Smile

Waves to all. Sorry, dashing in and out mainly to say I'm still here! Busy day but will be back later.

Hope everyone is well and you all feel better soon @RunningKatie

SpiritOfEdna · 05/06/2024 13:06

two disgusting cupboards down: one more to go. Also looking at the oven the gap between top and bottom is also very crumby and greasy. The fridge really needs pulling out, but I may need a drink before that one gets tackled.
Busy day at work - although found out will be extended until end of year, which is good news

  • doggo needs walking
  • washing to do for next week's break
  • need to find some good reading material for aforementioned break
  • need to buy a pair of cheapy reader glasses as the arm of my current cheapy glasses fell off last night
Not a huge amount but it'll be an achievement to get done today, That's all for now, have a good day, SoE

Edited: @RunningKatie - I have got a couple of library books older than that - I was planning on dropping them at the out of of book respository to avoid the fine discussion😄

SpiritOfEdna · 05/06/2024 15:07

out of hours not out of of too late to edit edit 😄

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/06/2024 16:34

Summer, 💃
SoE, good list! Laughed at the needing a drink part.
Katie, hope today is better. 💐

Was woken by baby at 5am for feeding/changing. Baby back asleep at 5:30. I was almost asleep by 5:45 when toddler woke up. Fifteen minutes later, with no hope of sleep, got up and did a load of laundry and hung it up, made a pot of oatmeal and a coffee then took Havoc out for a short walk around the block. Have now got Havoc parked in front of tv with YT with Italian nursery rhyme videos playing. 😂
Sorted another bag of clothes/shoes from neighbour yesterday that will get donated as sizes are for 3-4 y/o and there's no way I'm storing those. Havoc's pre-school class takes clothes for exchange/donation, so will take them there.

Frostandfrogs · 06/06/2024 19:37

Evening! Sympathy for the early start @Mumtobabyhavoc
Happy new name change @SummerLobelia and I hope you haven't jinxed the sunshine! The current cool sunshine and breeze is suiting me well. More please!
@SpiritOfEdna it's amazing where greasy grot gets, isn't it? I wipe down my oven and hob regularly but there are greasy nooks and crannies for sure! I'm trying do deal with a bit each day.

Good day here today. I'm up on the laundry, and have batch cooked a couple of meals for this week and for the freezer. Some unneeded furniture has left the building and i have cleaned the bathroom including the windows.

I have learned a lesson too. Which is that my hips will no longer tolerate me running in wellies. I did so for the very last time yesterday, over slightly rutted ground too, and my hips are screaming at me today. I frequently forget that I am not 30 any more. I have decided that I will dig out my swimsuit once again, and commit to one or two swims a week, and otherwise increase my walking. And get appropriate footwear 😳 There's an interesting thread on hip pain on the menopause board, and that reminds me, I need to talk to GP about HRT 💡

I enjoy listening to Michael Moseley's Just One Thing podcast ( tbf he never recommended running in wellies, but I do do a lot of his 'things') I am so very sad about him going missing, and hoping for a positive outcome 😔 🙏

I hope everyone is well and happy tonight 💐

SummerLobelia · 06/06/2024 20:15

Evening all.

Like you @Frostandfrogs I really enjoy listening to Michael Mosley. I hope so much he is found soon and in good health. I find myself really sad and unsettled at the news he is missing. I really enjoyed his books and podcasts and hope so much he is okay. Thinking of his family.

I have awful hips as well. was finally confirmed to be arthritis in both hips and in my lower back. Swimming did help me enormously but since my official diagnosis i have not gone for some reason. Committing twice a week sounds like an excellent plan that I may copycat. Smile

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/06/2024 04:51

More work in horror bedroom! 😁 I spent two hours sorting baby/toddler clothes. I now have three large diaper boxes packed with clothes sorted by size and labeled. I sorted toys packed away, pulled out baby toys and put them into a bin with toys in living room and tucked bin out of the way. Tidied two bedroom closets. Sorted laundry and put a load on to wash then folded and put away clothes already dry. Planning on doing two more loads. Vacuumed and pulled out couches to vacuum under/behind including baseboard behind one. Cleaned bathroom and washed floor. Made/ate dinner. Nursed baby and changed diaper. Baby is now sucking on my hand, blowing raspberries and laughing. Toddler playing with toys. Feeling organized!!! Gorgeous sunset, too! 😃

SpiritOfEdna · 07/06/2024 16:03

havoc you are so industrious with little ones too!

I am having a frustrating time at work, but it is Friday at least and I can regroup over the weekend. I have a 4-5 meeting this afternoon - who does that on a Friday afternoon?! Ok just checked and they are all US based.
Today

  • wash bedding - done, needs drying
  • walk SpiritDoggo, she had a little walk earlier, needs a longer one
  • wash gym kit for pilates tomorrow
  • tidied some books away - done
  • get ready for the weekend 😃

A lame list for today, but off we go! have a good one, SoE

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/06/2024 22:35

Spirit, it's amazing what gets done when I hustle. 💡
I just sorted one last bin of Havoc's. It had some clothes and blankets which I'm re-washing. Oddly, the blankets smell a bit rank, but the clothes don't. Blankets will be kept, but I definitely will need to re-sort all the clothes I now have for baby. Some NB body suits and the 3 m/old body suits still fit. I think some of them are just hard to part with because they are so darn cute and I miss that newborn stage. I already have put aside baby's home from hospital outfit that will be saved forever. 🤣🩷

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/06/2024 05:38

I ticked off one more chore! After dinner I tidied the deck, swept it, then dumped a few buckets of hot water on it to rinse it off. It looks much better. 😄

ETA: and I got into the garden and did a bit of weeding and general tidying up the rows. 🥬

Frostandfrogs · 09/06/2024 07:36

Good morning from my sunshiney garden 👋 I can smell honeysuckle already!
I have not yet made it to the pool but my swimming bag is packed. Local pool has specific lane times which aren't very convenient for me, but one a bit further away has a pool designated for lanes all day. I'm considering doing an aqua-fit class ( I think our @petalpower does those?) Sorry to hear about the arthritis @SummerLobelia From the horse fall? I'm not sure if mine is menopause aches or bursitis or arthritis. I need an MOT really. Bits of me keep twanging out of nowhere. Should probably do pilates or something as I'm stiffening up a bit, though generally fit ish.
@Mumtobabyhavoc you are an inspiration, with or without a horror bedroom!
Happy regrouping @SpiritOfEdna That was a wicked thing to do, arranging a Friday afternoon!
I haven't decided what today's project is yet, so I am going to get some breakfast and think about it.
I hope you are all well and have a lovely day!

SummerLobelia · 09/06/2024 07:47

Morning! Bright sunshine here as well but I am the only person awake.

Yes I think the arthritis is a result of the horse fall @Frostandfrogs . It's really snuck up on me and to be totally truthful I have not looked after myself at all over the past few years. Aquafit is probably a good idea - they have classes at our pool so I might look into it. I need to lose weight and do gentle exercise because my body is really struggling.

Today I will plant some white lavender and I have to make some salads to take to a BBQ later. Hope the weather holds!!

petalpower · 09/06/2024 09:09

Yes! I do aqua fit and love it. I’m not much of a swimmer. My aqua fit group is always full, mostly with ladies of my sort of age group! Exercising in the water is really good for supporting joints and much harder work than you would imagine.

Peridot1 · 09/06/2024 09:11

Morning all.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - you get so much done!

I haven’t been doing much at all. Got felled by the worst migraine in years on Friday. Still felt a bit crappy yesterday so didn’t do much. Napped on the sofa for two hours in the afternoon and was still in bed by 8.

And DS decided last night that he will come home from Dublin. Today. So I now have to drive to Gatwick to pick him up. Which is an hour each way.

So I’m not planning much else today.

I am not very happy with the weather. Would love it to be a few degrees warmer. So that’s putting me in a bad mood. It’s currently lovely and sunny outside but only 13 degrees! And only due to get up to 16 today. It was 22 last Sunday which was just perfect. I need more of that!

petalpower · 09/06/2024 09:22

I’m not doing too well with the individual mentions - most of you are so good at that! Sorry to hear about the migraine @Peridot1 and also your unexpected trip to Gatwick. Is DS home for long? We have our DS visiting this weekend - he’s moving back here for few months quite soon as he will be in between flats so yesterday I managed to get him to have a sort out in his room here to make space for bringing back all his belongings. We will also have DD back next month from her travelling - she is post uni so we already have all her belongings here too.
I’m still making progress with my aim to declutter 2024 items this year (inspired by another thread). We’ve got a big basket of gardening/decorating clothes in the utility cupboard and today I’m going to go through it and wash everything and try to get it whittled down to a more acceptable number. The rest can go to textile recycling. I think it’s the last of the sunny days for a while so am making the most of being able to dry things outside.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/06/2024 20:43

Sorry to hear about the aches and pains Summer and Froggy. Feet up and a glass of wine help, I've heard. ☺️
Migraines are awful Peridot. I hope you are well recovered by now. 💐
Lots of activity for you Petal! Will be nice to have both dc home. 🥰

I've been up since 6am when I got up for baby. Tried going back to sleep but toddler woke up and it's been off to the races since. Have changed bed and washed/dried sheets. Have got another load in the wash. Ran dishwasher and have put everything away. Vacuumed. Washed kitchen floor. Wiped railings on deck and track on sliding glass door. Gathered up and put away toys in living room. Made pancakes for breakfast in between, nursed baby and did a couple rounds of diaper changes. Managed to get both dc to nap (asleep now!), catch the last of of men 's finals tennis at Roland Garros and for extra points removed the dryer lint trap, cleaned it and the abyss where the lint disappears by wiping it out with damp paper towel as far and my hand could reach and the inside of dryer door that also collects lint. Havoc was fascinated by all that dryer maintenance! ☺️

Daily project Round 5
SpiritOfEdna · 10/06/2024 13:29

havoc very brave to go into the jaws of doom. Also wondering what film that is from 😄

Today am on a mission to get ready for a Cornwall of all weathers.

  • hand wash and dry jumpers
  • get rest of clothes washed
  • ironing board out ready to iron some tops.
  • tidy bedroom ready for getting back there are clothes everywhere from a desperate hunt for Pilates' socks on Sat.
  • SpiritDoggo's groom has been shifted from today to tomorrow
  • have already done online check in for rental car
  • out of office is ready for Wednesday morning (I am keen 😄)
  • work timesheet for week is ready to submit
  • let the neighbours know we are away BINS
  • remember I am getting a hair cut tomorrow, if time I need to buy & deliver a birthday present to a friend
  • find something decent in my wardrobe to wear to a celebratory meal for brother
  • go to other sibling later today to pick up gift for brother and drop off a house key
Seems a long list but can be multi-tasked, it was good to do a brain dump, have a good day, SoE
Frostandfrogs · 10/06/2024 13:47

Hello everyone! Hmmm, Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday?

I have a flylady tumble dryer cleaning kit that incudes a long bendy-handled brush. Useful but doesn't really go round corners. I hope Havoc's interest in house work develops - you can put them to work asap! GN loves a bit of floor mopping, but she has to be dissuaded from mopping carpets as well!

Nothing like a bit of a brain dump @SpiritOfEdna

Bit of a disjointed day here as I'm killing time waiting for mother who is doing a social event, and I am taxi service today. I've been to Marks to return clothing that didn't fit, and spent all of a £50 voucher in Waterstones 🎉 Now I'm at her house, trying to decide if it's likely to rain, as her washing is out but not quite dry.

And I have just started Tackle, by Jilly Cooper!

Hope everything is ok with you all - it's all gone a little bit quiet 💐

Ooh is our @Aria999 in the UK?

Frostandfrogs · 10/06/2024 13:49

Ohhhh I have missed posts from @SummerLobelia and @Peridot1 and @petalpower ....off to catch up 😊 ☕

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/06/2024 13:56

Spirit, the movie is Roman Holiday. The actress is Audrey Hepburn. A super old one, but really cute and worth watching if it comes on tv, or is streaming somewhere.
What an impressive list! I like that you have your ooo message ready! Not that you're anxious, ot anything...😂

It's almost 6 months since baby was born and I'm just starting to feel able to get back into a groove of motivation.

Peridot1 · 10/06/2024 15:08

Hi all

Got DS yesterday with no issues and quite enjoyed the drive. Have now figured out the urgency in his trip home judging by the amount of washing he has! First load done and hung up. Will do rest tomorrow. (Yes I know I should get him to do it.)

Started the day off in a very grumpy mood thanks to the weather. Was supposed to go to the gym or for a walk but sulked and did neither.

I did wash all the bits from our new hand blender and took all the components from the old one out of the drawer. New was was necessary as DH broke the old one trying to chop huge bits of carrot with it for some unknown reason.

Then this afternoon I wandered up the garden to see what DH was up to and ended up potting out 9 geranium plants and weeded a raised bed. Will do the other nine plants and the other raised bed tomorrow. Feeling good though that I did it. Have decided I’m much better at little bits here and there in the garden rather than big sessions.

@petalpower it will be nice to have both of your DC home. DS brought all of his clothes this time. I brought a case back for him a few weeks ago too. So he is starting to move back gradually. I think he’d like a job in Dublin though but the accommodation is a huge issue. Worse than London.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - you are a literal whirlwind! And have reminded me I need to do a good clean of our tumble dryer too.

@SpiritOfEdna - nice to be getting ready for a holiday. Really hope you get some nice weather.

Waves at everyone else.

petalpower · 10/06/2024 15:19

Big admin day here on auntie stuff - finally able to register her death and also had a meeting with the celebrant whom is taking the funeral. It feels positive to be able
to move forward a little as there have been annoying admin holdups.
I have also:

  • been to the post office to send death admin and DS’s old phone
  • filled up with diesel
  • taken my car to the garage to the tyres pumped up
  • dropped off lots at the charity shop and textile recycling
  • wrote and sent my dad’s Father’s Day card
Yesterday I finished the mammoth clean out of the airing cupboard and have labelled all the shelves - lots of excess bed linen to get rid off (hence trip to charity shop and textile recycling) and also sorted the gardening/decorating clothes (lots thrown out).
