Have had to swerve MN a bit this weekend, all the threads about Michael Moseley were too much. Such sad news about a lovely man.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - if you've been lacking motivation then I'm a little scared at what you can achieve with full-on motivation!

I did the library walk of shame, there is sadly no drop box at our library any longer but they were very tickled and lovely, pleased that's a job done.

We've reached a tipping point where DS has the same size feet as me, sadly no VAT free shoes now. Y6 residential this week, he's excited, I am quietly terrified. DD got really sick on hers, sadly due to teachers' youthful inexperience.

I have a day off next week, dh will be in so I don't have to be here for ddog or school but I don't want to waste it. I've so far got an insane list of tasks but none of them give me a zen feeling. So I might just end up going out for a coffee!

SummerLobelia · 10/06/2024 18:09

I agree with @RunningKatie that @Mumtobabyhavoc 's achievements are really quite incredible!! With baby and toddler- incredible.

Hope you are okay @petalpower - registering your aunt's death is hard. I did this for my FIL and found it very difficult. I really miss him.

I have definitely lost my motivation today. Attack of raging apathy as DH calls it. Loved the Audrey Hepburn pic @Mumtobabyhavoc . I love that film- Gregory Peck was so swoony in it.

I have no achievements to report at all. Feeling very low today.

Hope everyone is well. Thanks

petalpower · 10/06/2024 19:26

I’m sorry you’re feeling low today @SummerLobelia . Hope you’re ok. Tomorrow is another day. Flowers

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/06/2024 22:30

Just sitting with Havoc at GP office for check-up as still not 100%. Thanks for the kind encouragement everyone. 🥰 Katie, did you have to pay a fine at all? Do you mean ds is off to boarding school? Is it common there?
Summer, attack of raging apathy. I like that. Is is acute, chronic, or chronically acute? 😂 Again, I've heard feet up with a glass of wine helps. 🤭
Ooops. Gotta run!

SummerLobelia · 11/06/2024 06:41

Morning all- I think my attack of raging apathy is both acute and chronic. Grin
I hope havoc is better soon @Mumtobabyhavoc

Thanks @petalpower today is another day as you say. I need to make a trip to the Big Town near us to talk to our mortgage people so that will be a thing. DH and I will have lunch after so that will be good. My resilience to stress is a bit low right now so might go and see if I can get some GP advice.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day Thanks

Frostandfrogs · 11/06/2024 07:49

Morning all! Best wishes to poorly children and the blah feelings. Hugs all round ☕ Cake

RunningKatie · 11/06/2024 13:10

Hope the raging apathy lifts a bit soon @SummerLobelia
How's Havoc now? Poorly small people are so sad.
DS is just away for 3 days, it's an end of primary school thing, bung them all in tents doing activities and getting filthy. I think it's supposed to give them a bit of independence and responsibility, he has to put his own sheets and pillow cases on plus remember to clean teeth and put on clean clothes. I may be a little hopeful on the teeth and clothes front!
I'm trying to decide if I can face book club, someone new has joined and she brings along lists of questions, and makes a beeline for our resident English Lit graduate! I am thinking it's lost the fun element and I may quit altogether which would be a shame.

SingleThreadJoiner · 11/06/2024 16:26

OOoh @SummerLobelia I've been staying off the thread because I have been feeling extremely like you, and just keeping my head down and trying to get through work stuff - I feel a bit less alone now, thank you 💜

]The weather really isn't helping the mood either.

But let's focus on an upside, today the cleaners came with a new bloke (I have no idea if he was their supervisor or a new member or what, he didn't introduce himself) and he was SUPER and did a bunch of dusting they never do, also tidied and dusted my supermessy bedside table...whoops! Now the teetering pile of books is stacked in size order, very discombobulating!

Hope everyone is having a good week

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/06/2024 20:05

Summer,Single I hope you are being kind with yourself; it's much better to look after yourself, do something fun, have some good food, get outdoors etc than staring at the phone when low. BUT, we're here for a chat and to give support, too. 🩷🩷🩷

Havoc seems better as has passed on cold to me.

Katie, hope your ds has a good time at that sleep away camp. 🥰 Book club sounds a little intense now! 😬I wonder if that person is missing academic/professional life? Or not wanting to appear less intelligent, so over prepares? I might just enjoy the questions and observations. ie. hmmm, interesting point/question. Hadn't thought of that. Maybe get to know her a bit?

There was a great poster on the wall at GP office yesterday. It pointed iut all the says we commonly use that come from Shakespear. I meant to take a pic and post, but forgot! I googled this to give you an idea:

https://www.shakespeare.org.uk/explore-shakespeare/shakespedia/shakespeares-phrases/

And I've done three things: booked baby's 6 month vaccinations, contacted Costco by email to help me find the date I bought an immersion blender that I think is crapping out even though use is about 20 seconds per day to foam milk for coffee and then used the wand vacuum to clean up sesame seeds and various crumbs off couch, area rug and under table. Note to self: don't give a sesame seed bagel to a toddler. 💡
Rain has stopped. I think I'll get Havoc out for a bit now. ☺️
Sending calm and happy thoughts to all who need it. 🩷

Shakespeare's Phrases

Shakespeare coined phrases in the English language that we still use without even realising it. Read his everyday phrases below.

https://www.shakespeare.org.uk/explore-shakespeare/shakespedia/shakespeares-phrases/

Frostandfrogs · 12/06/2024 13:33

That link is interesting @Mumtobabyhavoc I have a friend who teaches English Literature and she's managed to pique my interest in Shakespeare in a way that none of my school teachers ever could!

Best wishes to you @SingleThreadJoiner and @SummerLobelia I too have a tidy night stand, off the back of the nightstand thread elsewhere on the board. My dressing table-y thing is another matter so I may do something about that today.

I can't believe DD is already on her way back @petalpower ! Doesn't time fly? One of mine is travelling at the moment, and sending me lots of glorious pictures of places I am not ever likely to go to. So I am living vicariously 😊
A houseful for @Peridot1 too! I have put the ones here in harness, and got a room painted and the shed cleaned out, so they can stay 😂

@RunningKatie I gave those threads a swerve too. I think of him a lot as I try to do as many of his 'just one thing' as I can each day. May he rest in peace ♥ I do hope DS has a lovely time at his residential. My niece is a teacher (secondary) and she has to go on those things! At 13/14 they are a real handful. She thrives on it though!

Big wave 👋 to everyone I have missed (it's hard to keep up but i do love reading the posts)

Aria999 · 12/06/2024 14:48

Hello @Frostandfrogs and everyone! I have missed so much, will need to go back and read it!

I flew to the uk on Thursday night and back on Sunday. All went well! So that's one less thing to be anxious about. I remain anxious though. There always seems to be something!

Have not managed to do anything useful yet since I got back, current project is arranging to replace the garage door which is apparently dangerously antiquated.

SummerLobelia · 12/06/2024 15:46

Hi all [waves]

I am reading but my blahs are ongoing and I don't have the emotional energy to post.

Love to all and love reading your posts. Thanks for the support as well, it means an enormous amount.

Cheers me up reading all your news as well.

Much love. xx

You are still better than me as I have form for deleting my account completely when I get a fit of the blahs. I'm only realising just now I'm feeling better, how burnt out I was trying to care for mum and also work as a carer. I thought I was happy, right up until I suddenly wasn't coping.

Big hugs, the blahs are rubbish 💐

Frostandfrogs · 12/06/2024 16:47

Your poor body clock @Aria999! No wonder you haven't got yourself together yet

☕ and Cake all round!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/06/2024 05:38

I ticked off one more chore! After dinner I tidied the deck, swept it, then dumped a few buckets of hot water on it to rinse it off. It looks much better. 😄

ETA: and I got into the garden and did a bit of weeding and general tidying up the rows. 🥬

Edited

I tried doing this a few weeks ago and discovered it was not mud on the deck but some irremovable tar like substance which I assume is the residue of DS's 'experiments' with dish soap, shaving foam and cooking oil...

eventually got most of it (and some of the deck paint) off using turpentine.

petalpower · 12/06/2024 21:21

I think DD will be home in about five weeks @Frostandfrogs but she hasn’t booked her flight yet. She will have been away for about 5 months by then.
Today I’ve made more progress with funeral planning and other auntie admin, it seems to be never ending. I’ve also tidied up some random items from the fireplace that have been there for ages and only took about 2 mins to put back where they should live. More items have also left the house as part of my 2024 item declutter, it’s getting a bit addictive!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/06/2024 05:19

Petal, I hope you're taking some tome for yourself. You've got lots on your plate. 🩷. Which countries is your dd visiting?
Aria, oh, dear! 😵‍💫 And what a whirwind of a trip.
Frosty, I've experienced burnout, too. I just couldn't function. It was a slow progression until I hit the wall and couldn't manage simple math, the number pad on the phone was confusing, emotions all over and irrational. I hear you. 🩷

My sinuses are almost completely blocked. Ugh. 😷🤧🤒. Baby is asleep. Toddler isn't and was just dancing around. 🤦‍♀️ No chance of a cleaning blitz tonight. Will see how I feel tomorrow. I did get two bags of garbage + recycling out yesterday, ended up washing the kitchen floor as sesame seeds were stuck to it 🤦‍♀️, threw out remaining sesame seed bagels 💡 (and won't be buying again), then purged fridge of condiments and a jar of old pickles and wiped fridge out.

Peridot1 · 13/06/2024 08:24

Morning all. Hugs to everyone feeling the blahs or burnt out.

@RunningKatie and @Frostandfrogs - I know just what you mean about threads about MM. I had never listened to his podcasts but was about to start off the back of another thread a few weeks ago. I did have quite a few of his books but I got rid of them a few years ago in a fit of anger against the whole diet industry. I do,like the whole “Just one thing” premise though.

I need a list. But seem to be winging it at the moment and not achieving much.

Anyway - today:

  • wash bedding from bed change yesterday (currently on)
  • go for a walk
  • put laundry away
  • do a load of laundry
  • finish planting geraniums
  • deal with some raised beds
  • sprinkle more seeds in wild flower bed - we have big gaps where I missed the first time!

Have a great day all and breathe……

Frostandfrogs · 13/06/2024 15:06

Thank you @Mumtobabyhavoc and the same to you 💐 I thought I was going mad, or getting dementia!

I have never been to a book club @RunningKatie but she sounds very annoying! I really enjoy a good book ( so many books, so little time) I sometimes rave about what I've read to friends, but the book club questions ar the end of some books are a tad annoying so I'd probably hate it ( or, as I'm among friends here, is it just a lovely excuse for a social? That, I could get behind!)

In other news I am probably late to yet another party, but I've just downloaded the kindle app to my phone. Current read is To The Bright Edge Of The World by Eowyn Ivey, on kindle. My 'do my brain good and improve my reading and comprehension skills' current paperback is 'Manufacturing Consent'. It's hard work, and I'm only managing a couple of pages at a time, but it's interesting. I'm utilising my Harry Potter notepad to write notes on it 👓 🖋

Very curious about DS' science experiments @Aria999! It's all about bubbles at the mo when GN is here...

@petalpower it's all go for you. I hope updates from DD are a bright spot!

👋 @Peridot1 that looks like a nice list!

Hi to everybody else and I hope all is well! I volunteered with the horses this morning and I would so love to share their calm with you! They are very grounding!

I have also been to the dentist, and smug soup is on the go 💪 Washing on the line, and I'm about to go and mow the lawn as DH is away this week.

☕ first! Then some action!

Frostandfrogs · 14/06/2024 08:10

Morning all! TGIF!
I did do the lawn yesterday, and glad I did as we have a sort of watery sunshine going on outside. Routine mammogram today, and I plan to reward myself with a trip to the garden centre on my way home.
I am also going to clean the top of my fridge freezer, and maybe go all out and do the wall mounted kitchen cupboard too.

Best wishes to everyone 💐

Peridot1 · 14/06/2024 08:34

Morning all.

I love a book club. Have only been in one though and we were all really good friends and very rarely used book club questions from the back of a book. We just did a lot of chatting and wine drinking really!

I didn’t get any of my outdoor tasks done yesterday. The weather is so depressing at the moment.

We finally have a rough date for the work to start on the things we are having done to the house so today I need to do a list of everything we need to do to prepare for that. It’s going to be messy!

Happy Friday all.

SummerLobelia · 14/06/2024 10:53

Morning all hope all is well and the mammogram is not too ouchy @Frostandfrogs

I don't like my book club very much. But for various reasons I can't leave it- I go to help a friend who has alot of social anxiety and she wants the company and loves the club. Problem is it is run by a woman who somehow manages to choose all the books and then talks over everyone. I usually just get stuck into the wine and nod at strategic intervals.

TBH that last sentence could be said for alot of situations in my life! Grin

petalpower · 14/06/2024 11:06

Hope the mammogram goes well @Frostandfrogs. The updates from
DD are certainly a bright spot. She is travelling through SE Asia from Australia to Japan @Mumtobabyhavoc and having a fabulous time but I can’t wait to have her home now.
I’m now sitting in the hairdressers waiting for my colour to take. My roots were truly dreadful! Stopped off on the way to take some small electrical recycling and took toiletries recycling into Boots whilst I’m in town. Still chipping away at auntie admin but am enjoying a bit of pampering this morning.

Frostandfrogs · 14/06/2024 13:19

Mammogram ✅ All done in a caravan in a carpark. Highly glamorous. A lot less uncomfortable now my ancient boobs have a bit more flop to them, @SummerLobelia I needed chocolate afterwards as a sop to being manhandled, but it's ok really and I am grateful for modern screening. I forgot to go to the garden centre though, as my beloved called to ask me to get bread. Apparently I can only remember one thing at a time.

What a wonderful thing for your daughter to be doing @petalpower ! I'm glad you're doing some pampering today 💐

Your book club sounds fun @Peridot1 Lobelia yours sounds less so, but I like your method of dealing with it. You're doing a decent thing! I think you need to stage a book club revolution though. How rude for someone to always choose the books!

Righto, yesterday's smug soup down the hatch, and on to clean the fridge.
