Oh @petalpower I am so sorry. You have been such a loving and caring niece. 💐

Peridot1 · 20/05/2024 16:43

So sorry @petalpower. You have been so good to her. She will leave a huge hole I’m sure.

petalpower · 20/05/2024 21:08

Thank you for your lovely messages. I am really touched. Auntie was an absolute cracker and it was a privilege to be with her as she left us. 💕
Please don’t feel you can’t talk about descaling your kettles and making smug soup after my thread hijack. I’ve trimmed the hedge around my postbox today (not a euphemism!), weeded the veg garden and generally put the house back together again after my absence. DH doesn’t seem to notice what needs doing and the little details but I shouldn’t criticise as he’s been a huge support.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/05/2024 23:33

@petalpower
" I’ve trimmed the hedge around my postbox today..."
Wonder what "weeded the veg garden" means, then? 😂

Frostandfrogs · 21/05/2024 08:23

Lol @Mumtobabyhavoc !

Your post made me smile, @petalpower

I have some old sport equipment that needs cleaning up to sell. I also need to buy some new garden shears as we have managed to lose our. Taking bets re where in the undergrowth they will turn up! I don't like using the strimmer and that is what the garden needs really. Hence finding a proper gardener, who is coming later this week 🎉

Walking dogs with my daughter later. I have treated myself to new walking boots, so will probably end up with blisters!

Have a good day everyone 💐

SpringLobelia · 21/05/2024 09:50

Morning all. I did get a smile out of the hedge trimming around the postbox. Grin And @Mumtobabyhavoc as well. We think alike..... Grin

I am starting a bunch of tip runs today. DH has put crap on two sides of the driveway. One side is 'for the tip' and the other is 'to keep'. Problem is I don't know which is which and it is all frankly crap so hopefully he comes home before I load the car to explain.......

Frostandfrogs · 22/05/2024 08:41

Quick fly by this morning. Hope you are all well.
I boiled the kettle and dusted the tv unit today. And i have swept the stairs with a rubber brush. Later, I shall hoover through

Best wishes to all 💐

Frostandfrogs · 22/05/2024 08:43

Your post did not show up @SpringLobelia sorry. Did you work out which was which?

RunningKatie · 22/05/2024 08:45

Pouring with rain here, can't access work network and can't go into office because ddog is quite needy and can't be left for more than a couple of hours.
I've already washed up, and cleaned some kitchen surfaces, given the downtairs loo a quick clean and done my duolingo for the day!
Apparently this evening i am laminating drawings for dc2.

SingleThreadJoiner · 22/05/2024 10:14

Hope everyone is doing well, and a special hug for @petalpower . @RunningKatie what a treat to have laminating in your future 😂

So much rain here too, extremely dull. Managed to get a haircut yesterday after I don't know how many months, yeay! And picked up a bunch of tea and coffee supplies for our teachers, the class has done a collection for the staff room to give them strength and caffeine (and biscuits of course!) for the final two months of school ☕

But I really need to get back to finding little tasks around the house like the rest of you inspiring lot!!

SpringLobelia · 22/05/2024 10:31

Frostandfrogs · 22/05/2024 08:43

Your post did not show up @SpringLobelia sorry. Did you work out which was which?

Not really, @Frostandfrogs . DH got panicky when I said i was going to the tip and said he'd sort it out himself (i.e he will never do so) and so I put in a small load of obvious rubbish to start things off and turned up 10 minutes before my booked time (even though they say you don't have to book anymore) and got turned away as there was a queue and it was all quite aggravating. Angry.

Today though I am working until 4 and hope to get home to do the pre-cleaner clean. I need to sit down and make another list as to house and garden jobs as well.

Hope everyone is well- the rain seems to be holding off for now here @SingleThreadJoiner

Best wishes to everyone for today. Smile

Frostandfrogs · 22/05/2024 11:58

What language are you learning @RunningKatie ? I have some rusty French which i plan to get back to doing. Do you find duolingo good?

Hello @SingleThreadJoiner I was about to say miserable weather here too, but the sun has just come out 🎉 Join me in a kettle boil project...I have just done wordle wiped grubby fingerprints from the freezer door while I was making my tea 😊

Sympathy re DH and the tip stuff @SpringLobelia I was sometimes amused by pre cleaner cleaning but now i am contemplating a pre-gardener garden, so I understand 😂

petalpower · 22/05/2024 20:00

Today I’ve planted some more vegetable plants out from the greenhouse, had an initial meeting with the funeral directors, had lunch with a lovely friend who brought chocolate to keep me going in times of need and hosed out the garage (open cartlodge style) which has filled with a horrible layer of muddy sludge after last night’s ridiculously heavy rain. DH has been to the nursing home to clear auntie’s room and collect her belongings as it was more than I could face.
Hope everyone has had a good day - brain is too scrambled for individual mentions.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/05/2024 06:24

Petal, it all must feel somewhat surreal and I bet you're exhausted. Keeping busy can help, but am glad you met with a friend, too. A soak in the tub and a cry doesn't hurt either. Sending support. 💐🩷

Frostandfrogs · 23/05/2024 07:36

Good morning! Big hugs to our @petalpower today. Pleased you have a friend who knows the power of chocolate and a chat. And good old DH 💕 I agree with @Mumtobabyhavoc that it can feel very surreal at this time. Take each day as it comes 💐

It's really cold out this morning! I'm not complaining as I don't cope well with heat, but it doesn't feel like the end of May at all!

I am still feeling discombobulated about not working and can't settle to anything. But there is so much to do! Taking mum to get ID photos today for her blue badge. Leftovers for our tea tonight so that's easy.

I think I'll go and clean out the car.

Have a good day, whatever you're all doing!

SpringLobelia · 24/05/2024 05:57

Morning all.

I hope everyone is well and fine. Thanks to everyone.

I am hoping to dedicate my day to the garden today. DH is doing the morning school run which means i have no where to be until 3.30 so I want to just settle down at a steady pace (as much as my back allows!) and just get into things.

Although the sky is beginning to cloud over,.... it was bright and golden when i got up just after 5.30!

I hope everyone has a great day and I will check in later. Smile

Frostandfrogs · 24/05/2024 06:31

Morning!
i was wide awake at the crack of dawn too, @SpringLobelia It's still golden here. Hope it stays dry for you, and that your back behaves.
I had a productive day here yesterday, and my car did get cleaned, and our new (first ever!) gardener came and did a grand job. We had success with DM's photos as well, and bumped into a friend of hers in a café, which put a smile on her face.
My knee had a sudden 'moment' yesterday and cracked and nearly gave way, which was a bit alarming. Slightly tender on pressure but that is all. I am probably quite hard on my knees, but it's also given a little more incentive to address the excess stone I'm carrying. I can't go lame if i want to play with GN and our littlest!
Today holds a routine vet visit and digging out sugar soap and some paint for some battered looking skirting.

Nearly the weekend 🎉

petalpower · 24/05/2024 17:23

We have come away for a couple of days to take my nephew out to celebrate the end of his degree and then to have a family lunch for FIL 90th birthday. We have come much further north and I seem to have underestimated the weather which is much colder than at home - I think I’ve packed a rather optimistic set of outfits. Petaldog is staying with my brother and SIL tonight so I hope he’s being a good boy! Obviously won’t get any jobs done but I did finish planting out all my vegetables yesterday.
Have a lovely bank holiday weekend everyone.

RunningKatie · 24/05/2024 18:05

I'm northern and can confirm it is very cold. Not as nothern as our old friend Seal but Watford Gap is a good few hours away!
Work has been very weird today, disconcertingly so, which is unfair on a bank holiday weekend. I've cried which is very unlike me.
@FrostyFogg - I'm learning Spanish with duolingo, never learnt it before and am getting on ok.
@SingleThreadJoiner - the laminating was a joy, dc2 was delighted, it's gone off to school and hasn't been seen since!
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend, I think I need wine now.

petalpower · 24/05/2024 18:07

Oh no @RunningKatie . Hope
you’re ok. Definitely time
for some wine.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/05/2024 21:42

Hello everyone ☺️ Chilly, grey and rainy here, too.
Have changed a bed and washed/dried sheets; both dc are napping 🙌 so I've vacuumed and steam-cleaned car and cleaned windows. Just having lunch and then need to get dc's car seats back into car and try to get bathroom cleaned. Happy long weekend to all of you over there. 😄

SpringLobelia · 25/05/2024 06:19

Morning all.

Hope you are okay @RunningKatie and the worry does not ruin your weekend. Thanks

Hope also your knee is okay now @Frostandfrogs !

Hi to everyone.

Have we lost our lovely @SpiritOfEdna ? I may have missed her posting but not sure I have seen her around for a bit?

Dcs going swimming with DH today.

I have been thinking for some time what to do with a little juliet balcony we have. have finally decided that I will grow cream scented climbing roses up it so today's mission is to go find the same. (I nearly said 'source the same' but refrained. Like the word 'curate' it gives me the ick).

I hope everyone in our lovely community are well and loved ones also. ❤

Aria999 · 25/05/2024 15:50

Belated sympathy @petalpower . How are you doing?

I have been ill this week, just a bad cold I think but felt truly awful from Monday evening till about half way through Wednesday and then still very tired until yesterday. DS had yesterday off school for Memorial Day weekend.

So have achieved very little other than feeling sorry for myself and buying things on Amazon (a common failure mode of being bed bound).

I did mop the kitchen floor and also sorted out robot vacuum 1 after it knocked its own power source for the docking station out of the wall, became very confused, and destroyed its map of the house... (socket area is now marked as a no go zone lol)

I have a week and a half before I am traveling to uk without the kids. Yikes.

Need to make sure the house is all clean and tidy for the babysitter, write her some updated notes, provide spending money and behavior star charts etc.

Also need to chase down some pension information from past years that we urgently need to do some backdated paperwork on for the IRS. I asked for it a while ago.

RunningKatie · 25/05/2024 20:52

A balcony sounds blissful @SpringLobelia - although our view would be pretty rubbish so maybe not in this house.
Super productive day here, the car alarm went off at 1.30am so ddog and I got up to sort that, I then lay awake fretting about work till 4am. However when I did get up I've done the ironing, a load of washing, sorted some paperwork, returned some schools shorts, ordered trousers for me, ordered fibre internet, sorted a SIM card for dc2 and also helped them sort some xbox subscription with their Christmas money. What a day!
I also went to an open mic talent session for children, it was "unique". Only one of mine was participating in a group and actually hid so they weren't seen.

Frostandfrogs · 27/05/2024 08:57

Good morning all! Sorry to hear about your difficult day on Friday @RunningKatie I am glad the laminating was a success though!

It's all go for you @Aria999 and I very much hope everything goes to plan!

Hope you're having a lovely weekend @petalpower, you deserve it!

Big 👋 to everyone else and hope you are all having a good bank holiday weekend 💐

I have the morning to myself after a busy weekend of family dropping in, which was lovely but tiring. I am just putting things straight really, and my actual project is to clear and clean all the flat surfaces in our bedroom. Amazing how clutter creeps!
