Hello all and happy Monday! Whizzing by as I listen in to a long day of presentations at work - trying to multitask by doing exciting things like laundry during the more boring ones....

A big hello 👋to @KateMiskin and a big OUCH to @Peridot1 ! What a way to start the week!

We enjoyed a lovely sunny weekend too (unsolicited East Anglia travel tip, we spent a few hours in Bury St Edmund's, it was really lovely and a great sandpit playground for the D!), no bbq but homemade pizza dough (not by me, but the wonderful babysitter).

Much chaos ahead this week and lots of house tidying and rearranging: all day on site at work tomorrow; friend arrives for two nights as she has a work thing in town; babysitter goes home for the summer on Wednesday (😭😭cue longer afterschool club for the D for the rest of the schoolyear); my parents arrive on Thursday night staying until Monday; COLLAPSE.

May you all have weeks that are as eventful as you like them!

petalpower · 13/05/2024 13:10

Welcome @KateMiskin - we’re a friendly bunch around here!
Ouch @Peridot1 - hope you’ve had plenty of painkillers.
Another East Anglia person here @SingleThreadJoiner ! We often go to BSE for concerts.
How was your tip to the tip @Frostandfrogs ? Such a satisfying thing to do! It was heaving at ours today.
Today so far I’ve:

  • stripped our bed and washed all the pillow and mattress protectors
  • been to the tip with a huge car full
  • taken three bags to the charity shop
  • taken glass and textile recycling
  • posted a parcel and picked up a JL order for auntie’s birthday
This afternoon I’m going to the nursing home so that will be the end of my productiveness!
SpringLobelia · 13/05/2024 15:37

I am doing a drive by post and run.

Welcome @KateMiskin !! Lovely to have people new join us!

Ouch @Peridot1 ! I hope yiou are okay. Thanks

Thanks to everyone.

Must dash off again - sorry... just wanted to say hi. ❤

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/05/2024 17:25

Oh, no! @Peridot1 How are you now?
🐸I really like the lindt dark choc sea salt and dark choc chili bars.
Petal, good productivity!
Single, I make pizza a lot and have a dead easy recipe for dough if you like.

Yesterday was Mother's Day here. Had a yummy brekkie of coconut pancakes, choc whipped cream, berries and banana and maple syrup. Managed to wash sheets for two beds and clean bathroom and wash the floor and vacuum. Trip up Burnaby Mtn in the afternoon.

welcome@KateMiskin sounds like a typical 2000 word uni essay! 🙈noooooooo!!!!

KateMiskin · 13/05/2024 18:21

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Just wound up at work and I have got a lot done today. Wrote over half of my report as planned and got my hoovering done. I don't have to make dinner today-we have leftovers- so can take the rest of the day off and watch crap TV. Might shove in a load of laundry so can finish the day on a high.

RunningKatie · 13/05/2024 20:16

Evening! Today feels a long day, thanks for positive Sats vibes. Day 1 done, he's still talking super fast and A LOT but seems ok thus far.
Today I've been in the office so made a hospital appt and not much else. Last weeks germs are lingering so I'm going to make a mug of tea and sit with the dc to watch some LegoMasters. The jobs can wait whilst we gather our strength.
Hope everyone's ok. How's Havoc's ear?
The gardening projects sound like they are taking off for everyone!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/05/2024 22:01

Thanks for asking, Katie. I cancelled Havoc's f/u appt today as seems much better.
Sorry to hear you and household still not 100%. Laying low is a good plan. 👍

Peridot1 · 14/05/2024 08:32

Thanks for all the sympathies. Back feels better today. Have chiropractor appointment later too. I took it really easy yesterday. Did some laundry and that was about it.

Today:

  • general tidy around for cleaners (usually on Wednesdays but swapped to today this week)
  • strip DS’s bed
  • tidy utility room
  • laundry
  • do some admin stuff

Glad Havoc is on the mend @Mumtobabyhavoc.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/05/2024 09:04

Peridot, is you back ok now? Don't push yourself otherwise, can be tricky. And you want to be 100% for you birthday! 😁

Frostandfrogs · 14/05/2024 09:08

Mother's Day breakfast sounds lovely @Mumtobabyhavoc!
The chilli chocolate nearly blew my head off and I only had a small morsel.
I did not make it to the tip yesterday. I was waylaid by unexpected things - mainly mother related.
That is my excuse and I am sticking to it! I can't decide if not having to book a time is a pro or a con....
Today's project is to do something about my bedroom wardrobe floor.

As an aside, I am reading The People Of The Abyss by Jack London. It is a fascinating and eye opening description of the lives of the poor in early 20th century London.

I'm hoping to get a bit more done today.

KateMiskin · 14/05/2024 09:08

Finding it hard to get going today. It's my WFH day and I always get distracted by the housework or laundry. May is a very busy month for me and i want to run away! Today I need to

finish my report
book some train tickets for upcoming travel
put away some laundry
get started on some paperwork for which I have to make a phonecall . I hate getting on the phone with service providers.
Fit in a walk if I can at lunchtime.

Frostandfrogs · 14/05/2024 09:42

You are one of us @KateMiskin ! At least, some of us - a few are the inspiration for the rest 😂
I would love to be able to do some WFH but was never even capable of sitting still in a normal office so I'd have no chance. So it was an under employed lifetime combination of farming/horse-based/ care work for me.

Come back at lunchtime and post your wins!

Aria999 · 14/05/2024 15:23

Hello and welcome @KateMiskin !

That's good news about the ears @Mumtobabyhavoc , hope you can relax a bit now!

Oh no @Peridot1 hope you are ok!

Sounds lovely @SingleThreadJoiner 😊. Easiest pizza dough in the world, equal parts Greek yogurt and plain flour, knead it a bit, roll it out. DD has it every Friday!

Had a mostly unproductive week last week so lots of catchup today.

Renew my access card for DD preschool: done
Open post
Tidy for robot vacuums and run them
Clean DS8 2nd pair of shoes which have been covered in dried mud for about a month so he won't wear them
Update finance spreadsheet

RunningKatie · 14/05/2024 15:43

Wfh day today, so have tried to ignore all jobs so far. Have sorted dentist for dc though, every time we make an appointment, can guarantee it'll be cancelled at least once.
I'm ready for a nap, nearly time to log off thank heavens, and dinner is already sorted.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/05/2024 16:18

Aria., whaaat re the pizza dough????? Just yoghurt and flour??? Never heard of that! Does it rise? How do you use it?

I know, right?! It is for a thin crispy base not a deep pan. It comes out pretty much like the more complicated kind.

I put the toppings on and bake it on 475F for 13 minutes.

SpringLobelia · 14/05/2024 17:32

oooh! I mjight try that pizza base as well using gluten free flour and see how it goes.

Hope everyone is fine and well and all loved ones as well. Thanks

Aria999 · 14/05/2024 17:35

Should add when I say equal parts yoghurt and flour I mean by volume. I use 1/3 cup of each for 1 small pizza.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/05/2024 18:23

@Aria999 do you have to let it sit after mixing or use it straight away?

Aria999 · 14/05/2024 20:08

@Mumtobabyhavoc I use it right away, as soon as it feels kneaded enough

CountingCrones · 14/05/2024 23:31

I use that recipe to make flatbreads to go with salads, I’ve not tried it for pizza.

@petalpower , everyone knows the dividing line between Fell Down and Had A Fall is whether you could get up by yourself. I cracked 4 ribs at Christmas, but I got up myself so I definitely didn’t Have A Fall. My story and I’m sticking to it.

Today’s plan was derailed by joint pain exacerbated by my period, but I still managed to get some things accomplished

  • tidied the kitchen and playroom
  • mopped the floors
  • placed a grocery order
  • baked favourite treats for our very stressed A-level student
  • did three loads of washing
  • made two variants of dinner (meat and fish)
  • cleared up the kitchen yet again

I’m off to bed now, hoping for a better day tomorrow.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/05/2024 06:26

Impressive list @CountingCrones !

My mind is blown re the pizza dough recipe. I will def give it a go!!! I make traditional with yeast, water and plain flour. I don't knead it, just mix it with a fork actually, form into a ball and let it double covered in a greased bowl. Then I press it out onto a baking sheet, add toppings, bake and bob's your uncle. 🙂

Did a last minute run to get diapers and milk at Costco and came home with diapers, milk, moisturizer and croissants. Now sitting with croissant and jam and a handful of choc chips as my bedtime snack. 😂

Frostandfrogs · 15/05/2024 07:28

Love the dough recipes! I will try them both.

Today I have done wordle and connections, put a wash on and written a list. I have helped a 7 legged spider out of the bath and left it to take its chances in the spare room.

I am floundering a bit with clearing the wardrobe as I am struggling for alternative places for things. So the bedroom has that 'cleaning out drawers' look.

Best wishes all round 💐

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/05/2024 08:44

🐸 1c water at temp of 110f + 1 tbsp yeast& 2 tsp sugar. Stir and let stand until frothy. Should happen in less than 15mins or yeast is weak/dead.
Add mix to 2c plain flour with 1/2 tsp salt and stir.
Form into a ball and transfer to large greased bowl turning ball to get oil/butter all over dough. Cover bowl with tea towel. Let stand in warm area until double in size. I try not to work dough too much. Just use fingers to stretch and press onto greased baking sheet. I cook my pizza at 425f for about 12-15mins.

Change out water for milk + a couple tbsp melted butter and 2 tbsps sugar and use dough for cinnamon buns.
