Morning all- hope so much Havoc is much much better today. Thanks

Not much going on here. I need to sort out stuff that has to go to the tip. I also need to deliver some documents into town which has to be by hand because I have delayed so much that posting will be too late.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Frostandfrogs · 10/05/2024 06:49

Morning! Blue skies and birdsong here. Clock is ticking, and I'm catching up on this lovely thread. What a way to start the day 😊

I hope the germs retreat soon for Katie and Havoc. How was old lady zumba @Peridot1 (asking for a friend 😂) I ache all over from gardening yesterday. So far a good wholesome ache, and no pain (normally I scupper my intercostal muscles if I don't pace myself)

Also ticked off some admin things so I'm feeling like an organised person. And I have booked some coffee dates with friends.

I need to LTB too as he didn't eat the leftovers that i lovingly prepared stuffed into a tupperware box while I went out last night, and had cheese on toast instead.

I keep eyeing up some areas where the paintwork round the house needs touching up, and thinking of the marvellousness that some of you have achieved. And yet I have settled upon washing the shower curtain and cleaning out the cutlery drawer as my today's project instead.

@SpringLobelia can highly recommend curating MN feeds. I too find myself getting a little.....cross. ... myself sometime and that is no way to start the day. I did accidentally stumble across aibu just now though, whilst googling 'nordic walking mumsnet' but that was quite all right!

Have a good day everyone 😊

Cross posted with you Lobelia your last minute by hand mission sounds familiar 😂

SpringLobelia · 10/05/2024 07:17

Grin @Frostandfrogs !

I am definitely going to curate topics- that will be a life admin task as well. Certainly life enhancing. I got ... cross... on a Royal thread last night. I mean- FGS!

I also need to meal plan this week. Any ideas very welcome!

Peridot1 · 10/05/2024 09:07

Oh I avoid all Royal threads @SpringLobelia! Some craaaazy people on there!

After far too many years on here I find I read threads a lot these days where I very quickly decide people are just arguing amongst themselves, annoying and it’s just not worth even reading.

Anyway. Zumba was fun. People were really nice. Hopefully one day I will be able to co-ordinate my feet and my arms. Yesterday was not that day! I may have been the youngest there other than the instructor and most others had obviously been going for a while and knew the routines.

I did my garden centre trip yesterday and miraculously managed to not overbuy. I even bought some lobelia @SpringLobelia. So today I have a lot of planting to get done.

We barbecued yesterday evening for the first time this year and it was so lovely to finally be sitting outside in the sun. Does so much to lift my mood. Or maybe that’s the wine? Who knows!

We do it again this evening with our neighbours.

Today’s list:

  • book taxis for my trip next week
  • go for a walk
  • laundry
  • quick clean and tidy around
  • vacuum
  • prep food
  • plant some plants

Have a great day all.

SingleThreadJoiner · 10/05/2024 14:47

Joining in the sunshine appreciation ☀it's so cheering. On Wednesday we went to the park after picking up D from afterschool and she was turning cartwheels until 6pm in shorts and t-shirt....amazing!!

I smugly made a healthy dinner last night by dumping a tin of mixed beans in a pot with an onion and two peppers and some spices. Plus rice, and cheese and guacamole (not homemade obviously) for whoever wanted it. So the D of course only had plain rice and cheese 😂but H & I enjoyed it very much!

I made slow decluttering progress by donating a couple of things to people on whatsapp groups, went to a couple of GP appointments, and booked a haircut for D tomorrow afternoon. Work is back in deadline hell at the moment so this is all I can handle!

Happy weekend everyone when it comes, may it remain full of sunshine!

petalpower · 10/05/2024 19:43

It’s been such a lovely day here - sunshine all day!
Whilst doing the grand garage clear out I managed to trip over a bin bag (oh no, did I ‘have a fall’ at age 54??) and pull a whole load of muscles and gain a lot of bruises. Now full of aches and pains that I’m sure I wouldn’t have had a few years ago from a little trip. So annoying. Yesterday was a full on busy day of jobs and I managed to get rid of lots of recycling, charity donations and other stuff. My neighbour took our old butchers block and I got rid of two old rickety bikes that I left out for free at the top of the drive. Another neighbour took a mower that we didn’t need any more for his daughter. Today has been far more relaxed (a day out at a local garden with friends and DH) and I’ve collapsed on the sofa with wine, crisps and Petaldog!
Fabulous to hear everyone’s achievements both big and small. Have a lovely sunny weekend all! ☀️

Frostandfrogs · 11/05/2024 08:32

Morning! Ooh ouch @petalpower I hope the pain has eased.

Yesterday's missions accomplished 💪 Today, I have a plan to give the kitchen a bit of a scrub. It's kept contained generally, but there are neglected corners so I might break my flylady habit of little and often, and blitz it.

I have the day to myself for a change so a shower then on it 😊 I know how to have a good time 😂

Have a great day all 💐

Peridot1 · 11/05/2024 08:51

Ouch @petalpower. However I don’t think it constitutes “a fall” if you trip over something. I think you have a few years till that. 😄

I achieved quite a few things in my list yesterday for a change. Although got sidetracked with Operation Moth. Took some jumpers out of a drawer to swap in T-shirts and found moths. So a few loads of laundry to wash them.

I have now ordered some moth bombs which will arrive today so will be bombing later.

Today - laundry, tidying up after last night’s dinner with friends, more planting. Sit in garden reading. Hopefully see the Northern Lights later too.

petalpower · 11/05/2024 17:07

I keep seeing pesky moths around too @Peridot1 . I think the warmer weather brings them out. It’s an ongoing struggle here to keep on top of the little blighters.
DH didn’t look remotely interested in going to the tip (surprise surprise) so I’ve booked a slot for Monday morning and am going to load my car up tomorrow with as much as I can in preparation. Another three bags of charity shop donations are in the boot ready to be dropped off too. My quest to declutter and get rid of 2024 items this year in making good progress! I put a big box of baskets out at the top of the drive and nearly everything disappeared within a couple of hours. The rest will join the charity shop pile. My neighbour has just been down and collected a CD player and a sledge. My other achievement has been to wash the electric under blanket (the label says fine to do this) - I had to do it in the bath as it wouldn’t fit in the washing machine and DH decided it was too expensive to get it dry cleaned. It’s been out dripping away on the line for hours now!
Hope everyone has had a good day and enjoyed the sunshine! ☀️

Frostandfrogs · 11/05/2024 17:29

@Peridot1 I agree with you, I think our @petalpower just fell over. Subtle yet important difference! We ribbed DH for weeks when he tripped up a kerb and fell flat, saying he'd had 'a bit of a fall'. Poor fella. But it is what my mum's carer said about her, last time she ended up in A&E. I think perhaps it depends upon whether a person can get up unaided #muses 🤔

Team just tripped here! 😂

My kitchen is squeaky clean. I'm very thrilled with it. Now I'm having a little nap because I want to look at the sky tonight. I missed last night's glorious show of light as I didn't know it was in the offing, and went to bed shortly after sunset.

I can hear the young children next door playing in the garden. All sounds very cheerful. I am now the old lady next door. We moved here with small children 25 years ago, and our old lady next door still lives there ( we're in the middle) I calculated that she was a couple of years younger than I am now. This year she has become a great grandmother. It feels rather lovely.

And now I'm sounding like my mother!

petalpower · 11/05/2024 17:50

I could have got up unaided @Frostandfrogs but DH very uncharacteristically rushed over as I fell to help me up. He said I just crumpled into a heap. How glamorous! 😂
I think the northern lights started at about 11pm here last night but I was already in bed. Out tonight to my DH’s concert so hoping to stay up and see if we can catch the lights tonight. Photos around our parts from last night looked spectacular!

RunningKatie · 11/05/2024 20:55

We're watching Eurovision at the moment, completely missed the northern lights yesterday and now it's looking like we may not see them tonight.
I've done 2 loads of washing, dh has done a load of ironing, we've done some supermarket shopping and got dc2 a new watch to replace the one that has gone AWOL. Sats this week and he's worrying about random stuff so trying to mitigate it all.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/05/2024 22:51

If anyone is awake and looking for the aurora, try looking through your phone's camera as it pics up the colour spectrum better. Just pan across the sky. Lots of people thought it wasn't visible or that they just saw cloud, but the cloud was it as well. Post pics if you see it! 😄

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/05/2024 22:55

This was what I was able to capture last night. Lots of city light where I am, but others saw quite brilliant colours on our N Shore and in Port Moody. Without the camera it was just a night sky and nothing could be seen at all, so it was quite magical that it "appeared" through the camera.

Best wishes to DC for the sats. Hope it doesn't get too stressful 🤞

Frostandfrogs · 12/05/2024 11:10

@Mumtobabyhavoc so interesting to learn that it shows up better on a camera! It does look quite eerie. I didn't see anything in the end as gave up trying to stay awake, but I have some beautiful pictures.

I am hot, and feeling uncomfortable as I've put on a few pounds around the middle. Feels worse in the heat so I really do need to ease up on the sweeties and the grazing. Today is the day ( currently polishing off the last chocolate bar)

I have had a fit of enthusiasm and cleaned the window in our small cloakroom. Next up is a patio sweep and bag up some more grot for a tip run tomorrow.

It's so nice being able to hang washing outside. I have treated myself to some new pegs to celebrate!

Aria999 · 12/05/2024 12:49

Glad you got to see it @Mumtobabyhavoc ! It was supposed to be here too but I missed it on Friday night and last night we had a thunderstorm so I didn't think it would be worth trying.

@Frostandfrogs I hear you! me too re the chocolate and the tendency to put on lbs round the middle! Had a stressful few days and have been hitting the dark chocolate with sea salt in a big way.

Good luck to DC @RunningKatie!

petalpower · 12/05/2024 16:32

Solidarity @Frostandfrogs - I too have a tip run planned for tomorrow (we still have to book for some reason).
Good luck to your young one for SATs this week @RunningKatie . Former year 6 teacher here so I know how stressful this time is.

Frostandfrogs · 13/05/2024 08:51

Morning 👋 Hope tip run goes smoothly @petalpower We don't have to book at any of our three local tips, but it does mean we have to queue at busy times. All are excellent regarding recyling though, and lovely staff are very helpful about what to put where. We have a fortnightly brown bin collection but with the rampant growth at this time of year, it's not quite enough.

My parents had a brilliant compost heap, but the garden of my childhood was enormous so it was well away from the house, what with all the flies. I think the theory is they are less fly blown if maintained properly so the heat wards them off. Must investigate.

It's Monday so I'm going to do the flylady 'home blah' and set the place straight. Mum requires a lift somewhere later, and she's a handful for a taxi driver now as she's not very steady on her feet. The drivers are so good and patient with her but it's a lot to ask.

@Aria999 I have not tried salted dark chocolate, but I had a taster of one with chilli in it, which was quite surprising. We do have some 90% chocolate in the larder for emergencies but it's not nice to scoff so it's safe to have it in the house.

I hopr your week has started well, fellow projecteers 💐

KateMiskin · 13/05/2024 08:56

I so need this. Today I have to hoover the liviing room and my bedroom before I get to work. It's a pit. Beginning shortly. Also need to put away the groceries which have just arrived.
Work wise, I need to write about half of a work report today- at least 1 k words- and then another half tomorrow.

Frostandfrogs · 13/05/2024 09:02

Good morning @KateMiskin and welcome! 💐

Peridot1 · 13/05/2024 09:24

Morning all. Hope everyone had a good weekend. Really enjoyed all the sunshine we had. We bbq’d four nights in a row! Not sure we managed to bbq four times in total last summer! And I had lots of time sitting reading in the garden which always makes me happy.

Today’s list:

  • dishwasher/kitchen tidy
  • laundry
  • take dog to vet for monthly jab
  • use the moth bombs I bought
  • vacuum
  • sort chest of drawers - need to put summer clothes in and store jumpers. With lots of moth protection obviously!

Have a great day all. And welcome @KateMiskin

Peridot1 · 13/05/2024 10:10

Slight change to todays’s plans here as I have just managed to do my back in. What overly athletic thing was I doing? Getting clean underwear from the drawer. 😩. Is that the equivalent of “having a fall”?

I had to phone DH to come upstairs with painkillers and a heat pack.

Ohhhh no! You're going to have to stop doing these dangerous pastimes! I mean, getting undies out of a drawer....whatever next?!

I came a cropper putting my socks on before a sufficient warm up last year. I mean getting older is really quite the adrenaline rush 👵

Seriously though, sorry you are in pain. I wonder if the zumba did a bit of a tweak, then the underwear exercise just finished it off? I hope you feel better very soon!

I am making a very vegetabley vegetable soup. And then I must navigate some ridiculous roadworks to get to my mother's. There are three...four ways to her house and each on has it's own set of temporary traffic lights so I shall consult google maps on the best way to go!

Peridot1 · 13/05/2024 11:25

@Frostandfrogs - I think it was doing lots of bending in the garden planting pots this weekend. And I was due a chiropractor session anyway.

As if I’m not traumatised enough this week with my big birthday!
