Hello all, and thanks for the kind words about my former colleague.

We got through the long weekend here with lots of activities and a predictably rainy BBQ, it was all pleasant enough. Accomplishment-wise, I've passed on a jigsaw to another mum via WhatsApp group, been organising/booking things for D's birthday in July, sorted presents for THREE upcoming birthday parties D is going to in the next few weeks, and not much else I'm afraid. Except laundry. Always the laundry.

@SpringLobelia sending you good vibes about the workshops. I just booked myself in to start seeing a therapist again after a break - I think I need it! Also your trip to the beach at sunrise sounds magical, and tiring - I wouldn't have had the energy!

@Aria999 , congratulations on the husband pay rise!

And lovely to see you again @Frostandfrogs it sounds like you've really had a lot on your plate both ups and downs. Look after yourself.

Peridot1 · 07/05/2024 15:16

Lovely to see your post @Frostandfrogs. Many congratulations on your new granddaughter. How lovely.

it sounds like you have a lot on your plate.

I think it’s tempting to feel you have to respond to and tag everyone on this thread but you really don’t.

So for anyone who feels they just want to or can post about achieving one thing - that’s fine! It is what the thread started as. It’s become a lovely group and I don’t think anyone would want anyone to feel bad they haven’t got the time or energy for a long post.

Frostandfrogs · 08/05/2024 07:16

Good morning all! Thank you @Peridot1 I did fall into the trap of trying too hard and finding myself wanting.
I have read back the last few pages and it's been good to catch up. Some wins and some tough times. A snapshot of life in one thread.
Hugs to you all! 💐☕
Hello @CountingCrones 👋

I've been doing a lot of mindfulness stuff, and walking, and reading novels. Trying to reduce the constant mental chatter. Seems to be working. DH has had a bit of a health scare so I am trying extra hard to do good wholesome uhp-free food. Smug soup to the rescue! Also I'm picking up jobs round the place which would previously have been his as he's suffering fatigue which we've been assured will pass 🤞

Today I will move fridge/freezer to clean underneath and behind
Another half hour in garden (trimming and weeding)
Trip to tip with stuff as it's being unearthed.

Must also book dentist online and attempt to book an appt with GP, which we still can't do online at our practice.

Have a good day all 💕

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/05/2024 08:13

💕Welcome back 🐸🐸🐸💕

Quick post: dc Havoc has ear infection and has been ill past week. Spent several hours in emerg at the hosp Sat night. On antibiotics three days now, but fever was still 39c earlier in the evening and dinner was refused. GP booked for Thurs.

Steam-mopped floors, area rugs, front door inside and out and some walls. Washed and bleached a load of towels. Boiled a bunch of eggs and made a pot of oatmeal for quick meals/snacks next couple days.
Planning on early drop-in to mechanic in the morning as car acting up re starting - as in "wouldn't." Called emerg roadside and of course car was fine. 🤷‍♀️
Was given a few tips on what the issue could be, so hopefully will be sorted tomorrow and not too pricey.

Sorry for not commenting on posts, but it's after midnight and I'm wiped. Will read more tomorrow and hopefully be able to say Hi a bit more.

CountingCrones · 08/05/2024 08:14

Hello @Frostandfrogs , and thank you for the welcome. Congratulations on your granddaughter, and I empathise about both the generations above and below needing support.

Today I need to work in the garden. Lots to plant out or pot on, more weeds to tackle before they get too established.

petalpower · 08/05/2024 10:07

How lovely to see you back @Frostandfrogs ! We’ve missed you! Sorry to hear of your increasing family caring responsibilities and your DH illness. What a joy your new granddaughter must be for the whole family.
Today DH and I are going to do a job we have been talking about for about the last 5 years - the grand garage clear out! Wish me luck!

Frostandfrogs · 08/05/2024 11:30

It's lovely to 'see' you all again 💕
Poor little Havoc! I hope s/he feels better soon. Ear infections are so miserable!

@CountingCrones, @petalpower and I have often commiserated with one another on the trials of being the 'sandwich' generation!

Good luck with the garage Petal

Dgd (MN code?) is a delight! I have enjoyed some lovely cuddles. And great niece is growing fast and toddling now. My big brother is the most doting of doting grandads. So sweet to see them together.

I still have some residual guilt over not working, but I have plenty to keep me occupied and my beloved has informed me that he considers me being around as a luxury.

I have doctored my settings here so I can only see nice chit chat about books and gardening and such. Although I was delighted to see a how often do you clean your bathroom thread upon my return. Things don't change that much 😂

Pleased and proud to announce that tomorrow's dinner is in the oven (tonight we have leftovers) I need to pop to supermarket next, after I've seen mum ( thankfully she has carers in first thing so pressure is off there)

Love your roses picture @SpringLobelia and the lovely discussion about rose colour choices ( and lavendar bringing beer into the garden 😂)

One day my garden will be lovely and I shall share a picture of my own!

CountingCrones · 08/05/2024 11:51

I cooked Monday's dinner in the morning as I knew we'd be tired out after a day working in the garden, @Frostandfrogs , and bloody DH decided he "wasn't in the mood' to eat that.

If this were a thread in AIBU I'd LTB, obviously.

Good luck with the garage, @petalpower . That's a great job to tackle.

I'm eyeing up the bookshelves, thinking how nice it would be to have space for new books if I culled all the books I'm unlikely to want to pick up again...

SingleThreadJoiner · 08/05/2024 14:20

@Frostandfrogs , how nice to be described as a luxury! 😀

@Mumtobabyhavoc , good luck with Havoc's health - so tricky to be juggling both that and the baby

I have a small but important triumph to share from today of something accomplished - I realised we were basically out of soap in the bathroom and actually left the house in a break between meetings and walked to the shops to get some 😅

I thought about making something healthy for dinner, but I think it will be scrambled eggs instead - it looks like I'll be working right up until the D comes home from afterschool club.

SpringLobelia · 08/05/2024 14:57

Hello!

Hugs to you @Mumtobabyhavoc . Hope so much Havoc is okay and you as well and no more scary trips to A&E. Thanks I remain in awe what you are able to do each and every day- despite newborns and toddlers and - well everything really!

@Frostandfrogs so good to see you. ❤ I did miss you on the threads. Thanks I most definitely need to take your lead and hide a whole bunch of topics. I always tell myself I will stick to our lovely thread and maybe the odd 'what's for dinner' thread but then I get sidetracked and not only lose hours but also quite often become very ..... cross.... with what i am reading. Blush

And such wonderful wonderful news about your new baby granddaughter!!!!! How incredibly exciting. Thinking of you with everything that is going on. Best wishes to your mum, your DD and your lovely DH. And of course to you. Thanks

waves to everyone. Hope everyone is fine and well. I am posting quickly while on hold to the bank, then have to dash out on the school run. But I wanted to check in quickly.

Hugs and Thanks to everyone. Thank you all for our lovely thread. Makes me so happy to see everyone- and as always- lurkers please do join any time. We love newbies.

(PS- I was on that how often you clean your bathroom thread..... these are the threads I need to stick to!!)

SpringLobelia · 08/05/2024 15:00

Oh and @SingleThreadJoiner scrambled eggs sounds good to me! I do breakfast for dinner about once a week and it's always the meal everyone seems to look forward to the most so i wonder why I meal plan everything else sometimes. 😋

Aria999 · 08/05/2024 16:12

Hello @Frostandfrogs congrats on your lovely granddaughter!

Aria999 · 08/05/2024 16:13

lol @CountingCrones definitely LTB 🤣 I hope he sorted out his own alternative food?!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/05/2024 17:40

@counting. I am loathe to part with my books. I have two bins of them in my storage closet going back to my precious uni textbooks. 🤦‍♀️
It would burn me a little bit about the dinner, too. I had a bf once who said he wasn't "too bothered" with something bloody lovely I had prepared. 😡
Must get into my garden as well this weekend.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/05/2024 21:20

Spring & Single, thank you for the well wishes to little Havoc. Temp is down to 37.3 and have just given another dose of antibiotics. Hoping it stays down as have needed Tylenol and Advil for a week now to manage it. I am so scared of febrile seizures.

Single, scrambled eggs is a fave of mine any time of day or night. I often melt cheese overtop and pop them in a croissant. You getting out mid-day for errand is actually a nice way to clear your head from work.

Spring, nothing amazing here, really. Just keeping things afloat. I find that a quick buzz around at night is effective at getting tasks done. Toss in laundry, clean the bathroom, wash the floors quickly and littles asleep. I feel quite accomplished when I do that. 🤗

petalpower · 08/05/2024 21:54

Hope Havoc feels better soon @Mumtobabyhavoc . High temperatures are so scary.
The epic garage clearance was exhausting! Where did all that rubbish come from?! We still haven’t completely finished and I need to go to the textile recycling, charity shop and small electrical recycling point on my way to or from the dentists tomorrow. There needs to be a trip to the tip too but I hate going and am hoping I can convince DH to go.

Aria999 · 08/05/2024 23:36

Yikes @Mumtobabyhavoc sorry I missed your post, that all sounds epically stressful! So hard to know what to do when they don't respond to the normal treatment 😟 I really hope havoc is better soon. Are they talking about putting tubes in the ears?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/05/2024 03:07

Thanks, Aria, I'll see what GP says tomorrow. First ear infection. Havoc hasn't shown any signs of pain, but I had been giving the meds for the fever for three days before going to hospital. On exam doctor said ear was bulging so definite infection there. That was early hours Sunday morning and Havoc has been on antibiotics since. Doctor said fever should reduce by Tuesday/2 days and that was yesterday. Other than fever Havoc seems fairly fine... when temp rises won't eat, so I'm taking temp throughout the day and night and giving meds if it hits 38c or higher. 🤷‍♀️

Peridot1 · 09/05/2024 10:32

So stressful when little ones are ill @Mumtobabyhavoc. Hope the ABs do their job.

@petalpower - well done on the garage clear out. Ours desperately needs doing. As does the shed. By the way I think DH should do the tip run as you are doing the other drop offs. Fair’s fair after all!

I have been just pottering really. Not achieving much. We did some stuff in the garden yesterday- emptied pots ready for some new plants so I need a garden centre trip. I even have a list so I’m not tempted to over buy. We shall see!

Also need a supermarket trip today. Hoping to BBQ this evening. And having friends over tomorrow for a BBQ too. So lovely to have nice weather!

I am off to my first ever Zumba class now. Well. Zumba Gold. For the older participant! 😂. Wish me luck!

petalpower · 09/05/2024 10:54

I hear you @Peridot1 but I’m not sure if DH will agree! I’ve done the textile recycling and charity shop drop offs, now waiting at the dentists. Other jobs on the way home! Enjoy your Zumba.

RunningKatie · 09/05/2024 18:23

Evening all! Poor little Havoc, hope she's doing ok.
How was Zumba @Peridot1 ? That sounds energetic.
I've been felled by germs, hoping they go by the weekend, already been told to wfh tomorrow which is sensible but disappointing given that it's Pastry Friday.
Got to sort out snacks for Eurovision viewing on Saturday eve. I need some yummy dairy free chocolate so any tips highly appreciated. DC1 has been put back on a dairy free diet much to their disappointment.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/05/2024 21:02

Thanks everyone. ☺️ GP said ear looks red and a bit swollen, but not bulging. F/U next week if fever persists and GP will re-examine and Rx 2nd line meds.
Temp is normal and Havoc ate a bit when we got home.
Me: Havoc can you please sit at the table to eat?
Havoc: No, mummy I can't. Sorry. I just can't. 🤦‍♀️

Laundry in. Havoc to dental appt in an hour. Baby, sweet as ever, nursing. Me, scrolling. 🤷‍♀️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/05/2024 21:08

Katie, what sort of chocolate? I googled Best dairy free chocolate cake and tonnes of recipes popped up. 😛

CountingCrones · 09/05/2024 22:47

@Mumtobabyhavoc - I hope Havoc’s feeling brighter. As for the books, between my paperback addiction, DH’s inability to get rid of anything nonfiction from university onwards and three now-adult children’s collections, we had 11 full, double stacked bookcases and some teetering piles on bedsides. Something had to be done.

So I have let many go to fulfil their bookish destiny and be read by other people. Only those we truly love, or those we’ll read again get to stay. It’s very liberating.

CountingCrones · 09/05/2024 22:48

A nice productive day, lots of garden work, some baking, some cooking. It’s good to go to bed with a sense of accomplishment.
