Do you make the beds before or after the school run?!

Just curious. I like to try and have everything done (dishwasher unloaded and reloaded from breakfast, beds made, toothbrushes put away etc etc) before we leave so that I can come home to a relatively clean flat but it is a MAD stressful rush!

In my family we always did the beds when we came back from school. Our own and usually also the parents' beds.
As an adult I often dont do my bed, depends on my mood and such. No school run though, not sure if my answer counts then.

Our country is doomed, i cannot understand how anyone can make it to be an adult and not know how to make a bed. For all those that say it is a waste of time, when you stay in a hotel do you expect the bed to be made when you first enter the room and everyday of your stay ?

Grin There's nothing to make with a duvet though, it's not like the old days with flat sheets, blankets and eiderdowns/bedspreads. I can make one of those, with perfect hospital corners. But a duvet? There's nothing to do.

If I arrive in a hotel with the duvet tucked in everywhere, the first thing I do is pull it all out. A duvet is supposed to loft all around your body, not stretch across it like cling film or a piece of foil.

Before, we're off to work after the school run, they are left pushed back while we have breakfast, shower and get ready. DS makes his own, it's not perfect but I think he should do his own, he's 5.

Where is anybody saying they don't know how to make a bed?

I make our bed as soon as I get up - the kids do theirs that way too. Apart from that, we're not too tidy!

What is making beds? And who cares when they’re done? Far too much time on one’s hands

It takes about a minute!

Intheshadowofthemountain · 07/02/2024 20:37

Who wants to spend a minute increasing the number of the dust mites in a bed? Leaving the bed to air is important.

whoscoatsthatjacket2012 · 07/02/2024 22:09

Ours is made by whoever gets out of it last after they've used the bathroom so it's aired.
Everyone puts their own toothbrush away.

Boomboomshakeshaketheroom · 07/02/2024 22:16

If I had all day to hang around a flat by myself while the kids are at school, I definitely wouldn't be busting my chops to have everything done first thing.

Also, school age children can pull their own bed covers up (or pull them back to air, depending on your preference) and put their own toothbrushes away if that is a thing in your house.

I am trying not to be judgemental about anything posted on this thread but the idea of having kids brush their teeth in their rooms, ans swallow their toothpaste because that is somehow easier has my head spinning a bit!

Yes Im quite interested in the putting away element of toothbrushes.

Where have they been?

🤣

Mindovermatter247 · 07/02/2024 22:31

I don’t but tbh there’s no point because DS like to sit in my bed, he’s autistic and that’s just where he sits when he’s having screen time.

Sometimes women are their own worst enemies creating expectations on themselves. Do you partners ever make the beds?

It's shaking a duvet about for a few seconds hardly domestic drudge, the OP isn't asking if people are starching antimacassers at dawn.
I can't think of any men I know who wouldn't do this.

Rosesanddaisies1 · 08/02/2024 12:01

Why are you doing it, apart from your bed? Everyone does their own in my house. their choice if it's not done.

I don't. I've never understood 'making the bed'
Who's going in your bedroom during the day to look at the sheets??

Edited

This. My DH is obsessed with making beds and opening and closing blinds and curtains.

I don't bother making the bed unless I've just changed the sheets or someone is going to see my bedroom as I'm only going to get back in it later. And I only open blinds/curtains if in that room in the day. And I only close ones I am in at night. Otherwise why bother. There are plenty of other chores to do! He's certainly not on top of those!

LBOCS2 · 08/02/2024 12:50

I make beds if I lose interest in what's in my inbox and need to stretch my legs on a wander around my house.
