Do you make the beds before or after the school run?!

Just curious. I like to try and have everything done (dishwasher unloaded and reloaded from breakfast, beds made, toothbrushes put away etc etc) before we leave so that I can come home to a relatively clean flat but it is a MAD stressful rush!

“Do you make the beds before or after the school run?”

No.

🤣 I am also in this camp

Poplolly · 07/02/2024 08:28

Only when people come round and even then the dog unmakes it

Before, I'm going straight to work

Same!

Netcam · 07/02/2024 08:31

I've made it to 54 and brought 2 sons up to almost adulthood not 'making beds', not even sure what I'd do if someone asked me to! Surely everyone has duvets these days, what is there to make? I do pull the duvet back to air when I get up, does that count? DH always empties the dishwasher in the morning, ready for me to fill again!

Timeisallwehave · 07/02/2024 08:31

Before, one of the best pieces of advice I was given by an uncle as a child was to make sure my bed was made. I was told it helps clear the mind and start the day organised. It genuinely was true for me.

notanothernana · 07/02/2024 08:31

Hate getting into an unmade bed. I like to plump pillows, smooth bottom sheet and put cushions on top. It's a way of making myself happy. I air the bed first.

Brotherlove · 07/02/2024 08:32

After....spend the time with the kids first if you have that luxury

sleekcat · 07/02/2024 08:33

At night, before we get back in them!
But one reason I do that is because my mum always said they need airing so that's what I do!

mponder · 07/02/2024 08:34

DH has been military 22 years. He always says you feel better when a bed it made. Yet he's never home and once I'm out of bed I don't think about it until I go bank in. I'll do dds if I go back in their rooms but not every day.

RedToothBrush · 07/02/2024 08:35

What's the point? Seriously?

Why are you wasting your life thinking about this, never mind doing it?

ConflictofInterest · 07/02/2024 08:37

No. I don't really understand what it involves.

This! An unmade bed at night is horrible.

What's the point in making beds? You only get in them again

Honestly, life isn't forever, don't waste more of it than necessary on dull domestic shit

This 100%

HarkHarkBark · 07/02/2024 08:42

Are you assuming everyone’s a SAHP? People make beds, if they make them, before they leave the house for school run/work, surely. Maybe more flexibly if you then return to WFH if you’ve dropped children somewhere.

But as it’s a matter of pulling up a duvet, I can’t say I’ve ever thought much about it.

HomerGlumplich · 07/02/2024 08:42

My nanna used to spend ages making the beds, but she had a complicated set up of top sheets, blankets and a counterpane that all got tucked in in a certain way.

I just straighten up the duvet and pillows which takes all of 15 seconds, so much so I don't even consider it a task. I let the kids sort their own if they're so inclined.

shreknjumps · 07/02/2024 08:43

Is the toothbrush thing because you're letting your children treat you like their skivvy and so they just dump them all around the sink?

Honestly, do yourself a favour and make them do it themselves

Comedycook · 07/02/2024 08:44

I'm a sahm so I just get kids out the door and to school and deal with the mess when I get back. When I worked I'd try to do as much as possible before the school run as otherwise I'd be coming home in the afternoon to a tip

New2024 · 07/02/2024 08:44

The DH is our morning person here. He makes the breakfast, the beds and washes up after breakfast. Regarding toothbrushes, each person deals with their own.

Lonecatwithkitten · 07/02/2024 08:44

Every body is responsible for their own bed and toothbrush.
I like to get into a made bed each night so my side is properly made, DH's side is sort of made as he doesn't care, but knows I do. DD's permanently looks like a wild animal has ravished it.
Toothbrush's got back in the pot once a week the pot goes through the dishwasher.
Regardless of whether you work or not you alone are not responsible for the tidiness of the house.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 07/02/2024 08:45

I make the bed as soon as I get up. I just prefer it made and like getting into a made bed.

Toothbrushes live in a pot by the sink so they just go back there when finished with.

SandyWaves · 07/02/2024 08:45

Always before, so i can focus on setting out the uniforms and get everything in order. I can't cope with unmade beds!

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 07/02/2024 08:46

The bed gets made when the sheets/duvet covers are changed. Other than that... nope.

Spendonsend · 07/02/2024 08:46

I dont make beds or put toothbrushes away- well they are away. They live in a cup on the sink, and they just go in there when the toothbrushing ends.

I do unload the dishwasher and hang washing. As i dont like coming back to a mess or crumpled loads.

Ladyj84 · 07/02/2024 08:47

Our kids are good at doing it as soon as they get up eventually our 3 year old will pull his duvet up and put his teddies straight

AquariusAquarius · 07/02/2024 08:49

Fold back duvet and straighten pillows takes 5 seconds maybe and I have to do it before I leave the house as hate the idea of getting into a crumpled bed at night

Toothbrushes away and sink wiped whilst doing my own teeth

With really small kids I'd always do as much as possible the night before- bags shoes and coat ready by front door, clothes laid out on sofa for after breakfast, toothpaste on toothbrush etc etc to try and get out on time!
