Does anyone else feel unnerved by the news about King Charles?

Yes I know this belongs in the Royal section but more traffic here for people feeling like I do.

King Charles has cancer, I am sure William is wondering if he will become King sooner than he anticipated. It makes me wonder too if Kate will be okay due to her recent surgery - William really needs her by his side if he is going to take on the Big Job.

Harry rushing home feels bad to me. I mean, it's good that he is coming to see his dad but it makes me feel as though it's serious - I just hope, hope it's not pancreatic cancer - but I just don't have a good feeling.

The Queen's only been gone 16 months. I feel out of sorts. Anyone else?

No.

He had an operation on his prostate last week and this week they announced cancer. It’s almost certainly prostate cancer which almost all men his age have.

I imagine he will be fully recovered, having received the very best of healthcare, by the summer.
Do you not think these people have access to regular, comprehensive screening programmes?

No. What is 'unnerving' about it, exactly? How will it affect you?

No. You need another hobby.

I don't disagree in principle but the said the prostate issue was benign so the cancer is affecting something else.

RicePuddingWithCinnamon · 06/02/2024 12:00

I feel sorry for anyone with cancer who has long waits on the NHS and money worries.

SecondUsername4me · 06/02/2024 12:00

I think most people would travel to visit a parent with a new diagnosis of cancer - regardless of how "serious" the diagnosis is. Given he (Harry) has the funds and private travel available he can make that journey much quicker than your average Joe.

Not at all, I hope he's OK, as much as I hope anyone in that situation is OK, but, realistically if he dies/becomes too unwell and Wills takes over, nothing much will change realistically.

They've confirmed it's not prostate cancer.

No. Not at all. Do you think that maybe you have this a bit backside first, maybe you feel unnerved and you've attributed it to the most current topic soaking up the column inches?

theresnolimits · 06/02/2024 12:01

No. He’s 75. Did anyone imagine his reign would be a long one?

I thought he looked old and frail when he appeared at the weekend before this was announced.

HermioneWeasley · 06/02/2024 12:02

No. It will make zero difference to my life.

NostalgiaWarning · 06/02/2024 12:02

No I feel completely indifferent

I'm not bothered about the Royals. Always a shame to be ill, but I would imagine they get the very best of everything, lucky them. I do wonder whether the country can afford another state funeral and coronation so soon after the last spectable. But at least each monarch further away from QE2 is a step nearer to abolishing the farce, as I don't simply don't see the goodwill extending down the generations.

Ah yes, the ultimate act of seeking attention: going to see your sick father 🙄

Hygeelady · 06/02/2024 12:04

No. I have more respect for William. And as for Kate, she has a lot of help at her disposal...

wheretoyougonow · 06/02/2024 12:04

It's very sad when anyone finds out they have cancer. I hope that there is a good outcome for him. I find it awful when people comment about finances at a time like this for anyone.

The colossal amount of public money that will be spent if the worst happens unnerves me when people are having to rely on food banks to survive.

MagpiePi · 06/02/2024 12:05

No.

I am in awe of the news presenters that can talk for hours and hours on such limited information.

heldinadream · 06/02/2024 12:06

No. As a fellow human I sympathise with him and his family. But royalty is an anachronism that we, as a society, need to find a way to do without, and any instabilities it experiences as an institution are really rather meaningless.
