Does anyone else feel unnerved by the news about King Charles?

Yes I know this belongs in the Royal section but more traffic here for people feeling like I do.

King Charles has cancer, I am sure William is wondering if he will become King sooner than he anticipated. It makes me wonder too if Kate will be okay due to her recent surgery - William really needs her by his side if he is going to take on the Big Job.

Harry rushing home feels bad to me. I mean, it's good that he is coming to see his dad but it makes me feel as though it's serious - I just hope, hope it's not pancreatic cancer - but I just don't have a good feeling.

The Queen's only been gone 16 months. I feel out of sorts. Anyone else?

i know two people who have had to deal with stage 4 cancer by the time the doctors stopped dismissing their symptoms. One died shortly after and one is only alive by extensive surgery that has left her absolutely broken and never going to lead a normal life ever again. Its not uncommon sadly.
Us plebs and commoners have had the NHS decimated and its an absolute insult that the rich parasite class are able to siphon money off the people and then leave us to rot in poverty if we get ill, yet now this is paraded in front of us that he gets immediate treatment and that we are all supposed to be more concerned for him than what it is like for the rest of us. It makes me feel sick and yes angry.

@Hereyoume but of course on here some say 'he isn't ready' ! What - at 41 for a life of attending events, handshaking, an occasional speech and seeing the PM once a week. They have a multitude of staff dealing with most stuff. The Queen had to take over at 25. We are infantilising him by saying 'he isn't ready'

Poverty doesn't cause cancer! Alcohol, smoking, poor diet, lack of exercise etc. cause cancer. Poor people tend to lead less healthy lifestyles but that's generally their own choice. You can be poorer and still healthy. Healthy food is not expensive.

Cancer is more prevalent in poorer areas because the diets in those areas are generally low quality, processed and high in unhealthy additives - and cheap. Because that’s all people can afford. And it’s a vicious circle because cancer most certainly does cause poverty as people lose their jobs and have to rely on sickness and disability benefits.

I do wonder whether the country can afford another state funeral and coronation so soon after the last spectable

Im sure he has an over 60’s funeral plan.

I understand direct cremation is becoming more popular.

🙄

Yep, imagine William taking on the "Big Job". All that smiling and waving, I've heard (don't know how true this is) that sometimes he might even have to shake hands with people.

Totally agree OP, poor wickle Willy will need all the support he can get. I hope Kate is up to it, maybe she could ask one of the waiting staff to pop an extra pillow in the Royal Chambers to help him sleep better.

It's an absolute tragedy.

Plenty of fortysomething men manage to go to work without their wives holding their hand. Some of them aren't even married!

Exactly. Most people don't spend all their lives preparing for jobs- even Prime Ministers. Jobs with far more responsibility and consquence than William and his job as Head of State. If he threw all his red boxes into the fireplace and flipped the bird at the PM the only consequence would be that he wouldn't find out about legislation that might cost his family money that he can demand exemptions from. There may also be questions about the point of him, but again only affecting him and his family.

I’m pretty sure there is also a link between stress and cancer.

(But there doesn’t need to be a lifestyle cause. Sometimes you are just very unlucky).

Am I the only person wondering if the cancer announcement along with William going back to work early is to detract what is wrong with Kate?

Err, no!

MyLadyTheKingsMother · 07/02/2024 20:40

Yup but only because I'm worried about what they are using it to hide

It’s not just diet. Poorer areas are also more subject to more pollution and people are more likely to work in jobs involving dangerous substances eg, factories, building trade etc.

I feel sorry for anyone with cancer who has long waits on the NHS and money worries.

This.

You sound very naive. Do you really think people who are less well off just sit there and decide to 'lead a less healthy lifestyle'? Come to that, do you actually know any 'poor people', as you so charmingly put it, yourself?

FluffyFanny · 08/02/2024 12:21

Ok, financially challenged. Is that better?

Usually big noise creating stories such as this are used to hide other stories breaking at the same time. To take the heat off, if you will.

and the more stressed/downtrodden you are the harder it is to defer gratification, to have the willpower to make the healthy choices etc

Lifeomars · 08/02/2024 19:07

I've just seen an item on the ITV national news about a woman being treated for breast cancer who has just been given a Section 21 notice and is having to cope with radiotherapy while she packs up her belongings and tries to find new accommodation. Now that did concern and worry me, I really felt for her. She had already had surgery for her cancer and is now having to deal with this enormous stress.

Vettrianofan · 08/02/2024 19:11

Someone needs a hobby 🧐

Grantanow · 10/02/2024 12:31

No. It's a terrible illness I wouldn't wish on anyone. He's jolly lucky not to be one of the 40% waiting beyond the 62 day NHS target for treatment after diagnosis.

porridgeisbae · 10/02/2024 23:34

I think it's also unnerving because it shows the eventual mortality of us all. Even the most minted can't avoid it.

1mabon · 11/02/2024 15:54

Same here no effect at all. I am more worried for my daughter in law who has been living with cervical cancer for six year and rarely complains although she has gone through hell.
