Does anyone else feel unnerved by the news about King Charles?

Yes I know this belongs in the Royal section but more traffic here for people feeling like I do.

King Charles has cancer, I am sure William is wondering if he will become King sooner than he anticipated. It makes me wonder too if Kate will be okay due to her recent surgery - William really needs her by his side if he is going to take on the Big Job.

Harry rushing home feels bad to me. I mean, it's good that he is coming to see his dad but it makes me feel as though it's serious - I just hope, hope it's not pancreatic cancer - but I just don't have a good feeling.

The Queen's only been gone 16 months. I feel out of sorts. Anyone else?

I'm not unnnerved. People get cancer. I think it's a good thing that it has been announced and hopefully will bring greater attention to screening etc. high profile people having cancer usually triggers this

hellsBells246 · 06/02/2024 12:26

Unnerved? By an elderly man I don't know having cancer and getting speedy, timely, excellent treatment for it?

No.

I'm much more unnerved by the story of poor Theresa Jones this article - NHS Wales: Day-long ambulance wait after care home fall www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-68211110

She was totally let down by the NHS.

I don't feel unnerved by it. I feel sad for him and the family to go through this (As I am with any person going through the same) He is a father and a grandfather after all and noone should have to go through this. Cancer just sucks.

I think Charles will step down and allow William to take the throne while he recovers. He is in a very privileged position where I'm sure he will receive the very best treatment to help him either make a recovery or be comfortable if it is untreatable.

Really? I very much doubt he’s going to surrender the throne he’s waited for all his life and it’s not something you can do temporarily! He may pass duties to William temporarily though.

What annoys me is if he pops his clogs anytime soon , all the more cash the treasury (aka citizens of UK who pay tax) will have to pay to have him buried and then crown the next dude with nothing special about him except his lucky genes.

It‘s of course a shame if he has cancer but as someone who has literally everything at their disposal and millions of sycophants to worry about him, I’ll reserve my sympathy for others who are dependent on systems which are being destroyed day by day by rich people who don’t give a fuck.

I'm less concerned about this than I am about the real possibility of Trump regaining power. At least Charles doesn't wield any actual power.

TDS strikes again. Biden has actually done more damage across the world than Trump eg countless wars for one. I don't suppose you heard about what Biden said yesterday. Biden said he recently met with Mitterrand of Germany, a few issues with that, 1) Mitterrand was the French president & 2) He died in 1996. Senile Biden is far more of a threat than Trump, and is terrifying that the democrats are allowing him to go ahead for re-election in November.

CatamaranViper · 06/02/2024 12:27

My grandad died 2 days ago from cancer. We only found out he had cancer a week before.

So no, my concern is saved for families and people who don't have unlimited access to unbeatable health care and wealth.

WalkingThroughTreacle · 06/02/2024 12:27

No. I don't know him personally so can't see any reason to be emotionally invested. I guess I could do without all the pomp, expense and fuss of another state funeral and coronation so soon after the last ones but maybe we'll get a public holiday or two out of it.

rollonretirementfgs · 06/02/2024 12:27

Harry only rushed back because he would be branded a cold hearted arsehole if he didn't! Everything he does is fir the sake of his reputation and public persona, nothing else

NecessaryNC24 · 06/02/2024 12:27

He is just an attention-seeker

How horrible and unnecessary of you.

Rosesanddaisies1 · 06/02/2024 12:27

It’s sad because it’s sad when anyone has cancer. But feeling “out of sorts” is weird.

Knitgoodwoman · 06/02/2024 12:30

I get you Op, and I think you've been given a hard time. Just because other bad things are happening in the world, or to other people, doesn't mean we can't be concerned about him. In real life people I've spoken to are concerned.

Spencer0220 · 06/02/2024 12:30

Yes it's unnerving. But mostly because it brings home just how nasty cancer is.

I feel sorry for anyone with cancer who has long waits on the NHS and money worries.

Yes I completely agree with this.

Both my parents have cancer and wait times and care have caused crippling anxiety for us so why is it King Charles will get private doctors, Hospitals and only the best care that can be given. It makes me so angry!

This.

I think a lot of Mumsnet will be saying they are unconcerned, but they are.

The status quo's shifting and we don't like it. William wasn't expecting to be so front and centre yet.

But 'concerned' about what, exactly?

Brief, passing human concern for an elderly man (that they don't know) who has cancer, fair enough I guess.

But more than that? Why? I genuinely don't get it. What difference does it actually make to your average person on the street?

I'm not unnerved.

I'm angry that my Mum recently had to wait 10 weeks for a biopsy result whilst Charles gets diagnosed and treated straight away. Mum has worked for the NHS all her life and done a lot more for society than that pillock ever will.

ByTheSea · 06/02/2024 12:35

I'm not a monarchist but I have incurable cancer and everything about cancer sucks, he and the family have my total sympathy on this.

Yes, absolutely.

AuntieMarys · 06/02/2024 12:36

Not giving it a second thought. I despise the royals. Won't be losing sleep over the repercussions

LolaSmiles · 06/02/2024 12:36

On a human level it's sad news for him and his family, but I think some of the general public's responses are over the top because I don't really understand it when people are very emotionally unsettled over a wealthy stranger having medical care.

minipie · 06/02/2024 12:39

No. 75 year old man gets cancer. Sadly fairly common.

It’s not like he’s running anything. There will not be any huge practical consequences for the country if he is indisposed for a while. Or even if he dies.

I hope for his family’s sake he makes a swift recovery, just like I would for anyone, but I don’t particularly see it as a wider issue.

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 06/02/2024 12:40

Well I'm not British or from a commonwealth country, so i dont care about royals but I don't like a lot of the comments here. I'm reading that people do not have sympathy for sick people if they have wealth. Sure have additional sympathy and concern for those struggling but the 'he's rich and old so who cares' attitude is very mean IMO. The royal family have a very hard life, most of you would not swap if you could. All the money and privilege in the world could never compensate for having your whole life like a circus performance with no agency.

Beezknees · 06/02/2024 12:40

Unnerved? No. Elderly man has cancer. Very sad news, but not unnerving in anyway.
