Does anyone else feel unnerved by the news about King Charles?

Yes I know this belongs in the Royal section but more traffic here for people feeling like I do.

King Charles has cancer, I am sure William is wondering if he will become King sooner than he anticipated. It makes me wonder too if Kate will be okay due to her recent surgery - William really needs her by his side if he is going to take on the Big Job.

Harry rushing home feels bad to me. I mean, it's good that he is coming to see his dad but it makes me feel as though it's serious - I just hope, hope it's not pancreatic cancer - but I just don't have a good feeling.

The Queen's only been gone 16 months. I feel out of sorts. Anyone else?

I feel sorry for anyone with cancer who has long waits on the NHS and money worries.

This. How privileged is the king that he can get treatment immediately and take all the time he wants to rest.

Bladder cancer.
They found it while the camera was looking at his postrate.
Hope he gets the treatment he needs and hopefully get rid of the caner.

Is this a statement of face or are you guessing?

Topseyt123 · 06/02/2024 12:55

I'm a little sad for him and hope he is able to make a good recovery. I'm just not sure that unnerved is really the right word. Of course nothing the royals do has any effect on my day to day life, and I don't know any of them personally. I wish them well though.

He's been King for less than 18 months, having served a 70 year apprenticeship. I think it would be nice if he could have a few years longer and I hope he does.

As for Harry, I would think far worse of him if he wasn't going to come and visit his father now. I don't view it as attention seeking. I am sure those who are calling it that would be equally critical of him if he didn't visit. As would others of us.

Harry can't win here. He just needs to ignore what so many people (and the media) are saying and get on with visiting his father. Bridges clearly do need to be rebuilt and repaired. I hope they are able to find a path towards that.

@LoveSandbanks they specifically said it's not prostate cancer. Hopefully since it appears to be an incidental finding, it's been caught quickly.

I can't believe the live feed on the guardian website

The what now? Jesus wept.

RaininSummer · 06/02/2024 12:56

I am unnerved that the evening news was pretty much solely about this. Nothing else happened apparently so the managed to spend 20 plus minutes telling us bugger all really. Ridiculous

MYSTERIOUSGIRL2024 · 06/02/2024 12:57

No, I'm not unnerved in any way King Charles has been diagnosed with cancer. Yes it's sad for the news to happen to anyone but I've never been a fan of his & was of Princess Diana! I'd love for King Charles to step down & pass the title onto William & not drag it out till he dies to be passed on!

The cost of another funeral and coronation needs not be a significant worry. A coronation especially generates economic activity and boosts the economy.

You know what else would generate economic activity? Cutting NHS waiting lists so people could get well enough to work. Investing in child poverty so children would grow up healthy and able to fulfil their potential. Funding schools and social care and mental health services to support people to be functioning, contributing, educated members of society. But funnily enough, the government never has a few hundred billion to invest in public services that would benefit us all. But they'll find it no problem for a coronation to celebrate an already wealthy family who could pay for it all themselves.

Footprintsinthesand · 06/02/2024 12:58

The poor man. Not only does he have to cope with the shock of his diagnosis and the impact on his family, he also has half of the UK speculating on whether he is going to die. Some of whom are rubbing their hands together with glee at the thought of it.

Not to mention the fact that he is 75 and retiring is not an option, even if he does hand over some duties.

So yes, I have sympathy. And I prefer not to think about the funeral costs of man who is hoping for curative treatment.

To those going on and on about wealth and privilege, would you rather he took an NHS bed from someone who can't afford private treatment? Yes there are issues in this country, particularly the NHS. But a bit of compassion costs nothing.

Advice400 · 06/02/2024 12:59

No. Although it's a worrying time for them.

I'm.hoping it's been caught early because of the way it was found whilst treating something else. My Dad's kidney cancer was found that way, on a scan for something else, and he is still with us 15 years later. Mum, however, who had symptoms and then they found cancer we lost within 4 months of diagnosis.

HermioneWeasley · 06/02/2024 12:02

No. It will make zero difference to my life.

This. He’s not exactly at the mercy of the NHS either.

LittleMissSleepyUK · 06/02/2024 13:01

Im with you OP. It is unnerving. I feel sorry for the royals, they’ve had a rough time. We’ve only just lost one monarch and it’s a bit worrying to think we might lose another so soon.

I did also wonder if they halted the production of coins/notes with his face though.

I'm sorry for your loss Flowers

Whostolemyporkpie · 06/02/2024 13:02

Sad, yes. Unnerving, no.

What unnerves me the most is not news about the health of a super rich monarch who has always and will always have the very best healthcare but for people like my poor MIL who was told by her incompetent gp she had IBS when in fact it was bowel cancer which had spread to her liver. Or for myself who has struggled for 20+ years with health issues only to (just) find out it’s endometriosis but no one bothered to check for that. I now have to wait 12+ months just to see someone and most likely further 12+ months for laparoscopic surgery unless I can somehow find £7000 privately.
So forgive me if I don’t feel much for a rich man I don’t know but I actually feel more unnerved for the everyday folk of this country.

What I'm interested in is how it's going to be Harry and Meghan's fault. Did they possibly send him poisonous flowers? Like the ones the Mail said Meghan had in her wedding bouquet to put Charlotte's life at risk?🤣

Well posters have already said he,s only visiting his dads for attention
And on another thread a poster suggested it, was the stress he's had caused by H&M for the last few years that caused the cancer
But yeah some how it Will.all.be their fault like they were blamed when the 99 year old Prince Philip and 96 year Queen died .

BeadedBubbles · 06/02/2024 13:05

theresnolimits · 06/02/2024 12:01

No. He’s 75. Did anyone imagine his reign would be a long one?

I thought he looked old and frail when he appeared at the weekend before this was announced.

Well as his mum died at 96, his dad just shy of 100 and his maternal grandmother at 101. I thought he may have inherited some longevity genes!

PukkaPi · 06/02/2024 13:05

No.

I feel sad for any elderly person with cancer, but I can't say I care anymore just because he's king.

Like another poster I feel more unnerved over the outrageous amount of money that will no doubt be spunked on another royal funeral, which is an enormous insult to all suffering with the cost of living.

Abolish this pointless monarchy for once and for all.

Cakencookieobsessed · 06/02/2024 13:06

No. I don't wish him any harm but I don't feel "unnerved" by it. In fact I think posts like this are by people enjoying the drama and in a way, hoping for bad news so they can make it all about them.

Can you explain why it's unnerving?

It's not going to make any difference to everyday life if he sadly doesn't survive this.

Genuinely interested. Not being snarky.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 06/02/2024 13:08

No. Jonnie Irwin's death and Rob Burrow's MND make me feel more unnerved

idontlikealdi · 06/02/2024 13:09

No.

FancyJapflack · 06/02/2024 13:10

I’m mostly very neutral on the Royal Family as a whole, although I do find Harry and Meghan deeply tedious but I am chuckling at how if he comes to see his dad he’s attention seeking. If he didn’t he’d be branded callous. He really can’t win sometimes can he? 😂

eggbot · 06/02/2024 13:10

No I'm OK with it. I feel bad for him though.

Morecatsarebetter · 06/02/2024 13:10

Yes it felt a bit odd to hear the news. I feel like we don’t need any more bad news. He hasn’t been King for long and he’s waited his whole life for the role and now this. It unnerved me I think because of the state the world is already in. It’s hard to explain but we just need a bit of normality

In what way will it affect you or your life though? I mean obviously it's would be terribly sad for the family, and in Wills shoes I'd be hoping for a decades grace before he has to step up but other than that? Your life will be just as it was two years ago
