Lesser Known 90s Song that You Like

MuddledMadge · 26/01/2024 11:58

Following on from the success of the 80s song thread, I thought I'd start one for 90s songs.

I'm thinking about songs that aren't really played much now, but also songs that maybe didn't get the attention they deserved at the time even though they're brilliant songs.

Looking forward to hearing everyone's suggestions. Smile

Independent Love Song by Scarlet.
I Love You, Always, Forever by Donna Lewis.
Finally by CeCe Peniston.

Totally forgot about Independent Love Song!

GoodbyeErinsborough · 27/01/2024 01:20

Realised I need to just make a list instead of quoting everyone!

Stay (I miss you) - Lisa Loeb
Buddy Holly -Wheezer

Colourblind - Counting Crows
Secretly - Skunk Anansie
This love - Craig Armstrong
These three are all on the Cruel intentions album, I loved the whole album.

Suspicion Bells by Effigy

So many great memories reading everyone’s suggestions. This has inspired me to make a 90’s playlist on Spotify. Does anyone remember One of us by Joan Osborne? Haven’t heard it for years but I remember the video so clearly, she was absolutely gorgeous and I remember being so envious of her beautiful hair.

I had this https://www.discogs.com/release/2775471-Various-Evening-Session-Priority-Tunes I especially liked the China Drum cover and recently listened to Bis’ Candy Pop.

Tomorrow - James is another one. The only song that ever seems to get played is "Sit Down" which, IMO, is not one of their best.

buzzy1 · 27/01/2024 14:24

I think Feed the Tree was by Belly- loved Gepetto and Slow Dog from their album Star

I moved down to London when I was 17/18 so 97/98. I worked in a cinema (an independent artsy one, not an Odean) with the girl singer from Kenickie and someone who was going out with someone from St Etienne. I was massively into trip hop and I only really knew She’s on the Phone. I don’t think they were too impressed with me, this uncultured, uncool northerner they were forced to spend time with.

Wasn’t the Kenickie singer Lauren Laverne?

Mairzydotes · 27/01/2024 15:03

Falling in love is hard on the knees - Aerosmith
Love rollercoaster - red hot chilli peppers
Staring at the sun - the offspring

Too much , too young, - Little Angels

darkmodeera · 27/01/2024 15:06

Elastica - Generator

Not sure if it's brilliant but it's obscure and is very much my grungy 90s vibe
Kill Your Television Neds Atomic Dustbin

Great song but Grey Cell Green is better (imho) 😀

Agreed. I really love She's a Star as well

KatieLGriff · 27/01/2024 15:18

This is a brilliant thread, I love 90s music.

Not sure these are that obscure but still me lesee known of my favorites are :

Shed Seven - Ocean Pie
Blur - Popscene
Pulp - Mile High
Dana Dawson - 3 is family
Tricky - Black Steel
Morcheeba - The Sea

bumbledenbarsk · 27/01/2024 15:19

World Party - Is it like today?

DesignforLife · 26/01/2024 19:19

Oh god, I've just re-read my previous post and realised to my horror I confused Echobelly and Belly. I used to be so scathing of anyone who did that in the 90s. Anyway, I love them both.

Also now adding:

Your Ghost - Kristin Hersh
I Kissed A Girl - Jill Sobule (nothing to do with the Katy Perry song)
You're in the Air - REM (not an obscure band but not many people know this one)
Susan's House - The Eels
Holes - Mercury Rev
Summertime- The Sundays

Haha, I was coming here to correct you 😁

Any takers for Faded Glamour by Animals that Swim?
Always reminded me of my poor, rundown seaside home town.
