Lesser Known 90s Song that You Like

MuddledMadge · 26/01/2024 11:58

Following on from the success of the 80s song thread, I thought I'd start one for 90s songs.

I'm thinking about songs that aren't really played much now, but also songs that maybe didn't get the attention they deserved at the time even though they're brilliant songs.

Looking forward to hearing everyone's suggestions. Smile

@SilverSimca I loved Younger Younger 28s! They did a great gig in Salisbury back in the day.

Oh yes! To Rialto, Blameless and mcalmont and butler (though not necessarily a forgotten song as was on radio 2 this morning but the more times it's on the better so far as I'm concerned)

Some more
Toad the wet sprocket - all I want (anyone who listened to Atlantic 252 in the early 90s might remember this if they heard it)
The railway children - every beat of your heart
Aztec camera - good morning Britain
Prefab sprout - the sound of crying
Echobelly- great things
Bush - swallowed
Eels - Susan's house

A Perfect Day Elise by PJ Harvey
King of Snake by Underworld
Sex and Candy by Marcy Playground

Yes to The Distance by Cake, and On and On by Longpigs - not obscure but so good

Todays earworm

I've hung out with Julian, kind of, in a group of other people chatting to him. I was dying to ask about Courtney love but I didn't. I also have had a love affair with the song "sunspots" over the years!

Sex and candy is often stuck in my head, no idea why it just plays but I enjoy it so I don't mind, it's when something like spaceman from babylon zoo goes wild for weeks and I can't be rid of it 😂

TwelveKeys · 26/01/2024 16:43

I listened to Atlantic 252 non-stop but mainly remember it playing D:Ream, REM, M People, and Urban Cookie Collective...

Grousemarket · 26/01/2024 16:43

My Life Story. Strumpet

FluffyDiplodocus · 26/01/2024 16:45

Hepburn - I Quit, it was on the Buffy soundtrack!

Atlantic 252 takes me back, I used to listen to that all the time

GlitchStitch · 26/01/2024 16:46

History- The Verve (their best song IMO)

Do You Remember the First Time- Pulp

Milli Vanilli- Girl I'm Gonna Miss You

Warren G- Regulate

She Don't Let Nobody- Chaka Demus & Pliers

I think these were all 90s, Milli Vanilli maybe late 80s but these are some of my faves.

Hobart Paving (St Etienne)
Love Rears It's Ugly Head (Living Colour)

DrCoconut · 26/01/2024 16:54

My inner pedant is not convinced all of these are lesser known songs....
But now I've got that off my chest, can I add
Careful by Horse
Arclight by The Fat Lady Sings

I mentioned Horse McDonald earlier on- I love it (not the dance re-mix, has to be the original). She has an amazing voice.

I hadn't heard it for years, then a few years ago, there was coverage of festival on tv, and Will Young covered it. His version wasn't too bad, to be fair Grin

EddieHoweBlackandWhiteArmy · 26/01/2024 16:57

Gosh I’m older than I thought- could have sworn 90s was only ten years ago. 😅

CrepuscularCritter · 26/01/2024 17:07

VoleChomper · 26/01/2024 13:52

My Curse by The Afghan Whigs
John the Baptist by The Afghan Whigs

Adding Oriole to that list

Raahh · 26/01/2024 17:09

One Goodbye in 10 by Shara Nelson . Loved this song.

I loved the album that was from (What Silence Knows) - she was also well known for being the vocalist for Massive Attack- and then harrassing Pete Tong.

LutonBeds · 26/01/2024 17:11

Breathe a little Deeper - Blameless, this song is SO hard to find, not on any streaming services.

Farewell to Twilight - Symposium

Every Me, Every You - Placebo

I also used to love the YY28s and Republica.

Raahh · 26/01/2024 17:21

Goya Dress -Glorious
