London, so the least affected, in theory - but our gates and fences are rattling madly, and a couple of rubbish bins have gone rolling down the road

Haddington here - wind is currently 80MPH. Absolutely crazy outside. Bins flying everywhere.

plominoagain · 22/01/2024 00:05

Norfolk and it’s properly going for it here . Popped outside to check on the horses and they were munching away on extra hay totally unbothered , but our stables are really solid . Feral cats on the other hand have both scooted indoors for shelter and are now tucked up in the annexe with a litter tray , a bed and two packets of whiskas .

Friedseasalt · 22/01/2024 00:06

Oh & no power

Adarajames · 22/01/2024 00:08

Black out down the road, fallen tree has taken out power cables, we’ve still got power and it’s a little quieter out there now thankfully

Leftmyshoesoutside · 22/01/2024 00:11

South London. The wind is howling away but not raining much.

My back hurts, so I can literally feel it in my bones.

80?! I'm 20 minutes from you and it sounds terrible outside.

Runnerinthenight · 22/01/2024 00:11

NI here and it's been wild though cautiously optimistic that the winds have lessened!

Trees down all all over the show. NDN's small weeping tree snapped in two!

Flakata · 22/01/2024 00:12

Not too bad yet, can hear the wind but not too bad, the worst is expected to hit us at 3am

EnthENd · 22/01/2024 00:13

Our boiler popped, water dripping out of the bottom. So no hot water or central heating. Probably nothing to do with the storm but blooming awful timing. Mind you, better now than in the cold snap.

Notyetthere · 22/01/2024 00:15

Kent. It is very windy. I'm lying here awake next to my 2.5 yr old ds who thankfully is fast asleep. Loft conversion completed 2 years ago. There is an air gap all round the loft and you really can hear the wind gushing through the gap round the loft. Whilst it is insulated loads, warm and comfortable, it is very loud with the wind and rain. We might need to resecure the gutter on the corner of the dormer as I can hear it bumping the cladding.

Oakbeam · 22/01/2024 00:15

It’s not been too bad here. It’s bin day tomorrow and the bins are still out standing where I left them. We have had several short power cuts but that’s normal when it gets a bit windy.

Notyetthere · 22/01/2024 00:16

And the little doors to the eaves storage are ruttling.

medianewbie · 22/01/2024 00:16

Scotland. It's just now gone to a 'Red' warning. Going to be a long night ...

SloaneStreetVandal · 22/01/2024 00:17

West coast Scotland here, seaside town, and its blowin' a hoolie! 80mph gusts easily. Quite scary... my wee dog is hiding under the stairs, bless him he hates the wind.

I’m glued to the flight radar thread. It’s frisky up there and a huge number of diversions in place.

DS1 just landed at Gatwick. Very scary!!

Mydoghealsmyheart · 22/01/2024 00:19

My elderly cat is terrified poor thing. He ran out and now is hiding, refusing to come back in.

squidgybits · 22/01/2024 00:19

@LadyChilli all vents closed, the curtain movement is around the sides and I can assure you they are very heavy curtains

I'm the owner of a shed now apparently🤷🏻‍♀️
a tile has also came of the roof and hit the car🤦🏻‍♀️😫

PamelaParis · 22/01/2024 00:20

Edinburgh, it sounds wild out there. It's the first winter I've lived in this house so panicking a bit about how it'll hold up. Idiot neighbours haven't put their garden furniture or kids toys away so might well end up with custody of some of those tomorrow!

Rosesandstars · 22/01/2024 00:30

Scotland- 70 mph (apparently 72mph would be hurricane force) wind and okay so far (sounds a bit crazy out there!) but I wonder what damage there will be by the morning! I'm hoping the huge tree behind our house stays in place though and glad to be living a bungalow.

I imagine there will be sand across the road from the beach and lots of debris there when I walk the dog in the morning.

SomeCatFromJapan · 22/01/2024 00:30

@medianewbie I just saw on the map the North East is a red warning between 1 and 5am. Hope you're all okay! It's bad enough outside Glasgow where it's amber.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 22/01/2024 00:30

Feeling very grateful that we live at the bottom of a hill and are the north-east most house on our estate as it says the wind is coming from the south west round here, so we're not hit any where near as bad as other storms, however our poor conservatory roof has always coped through other storms on a wing and a prayer and I was genuinely worried that this one would be the one it finds a home in someone else's garden.

Flakata · 22/01/2024 00:32

Just saw where I live has been given the red warning, still not too bad yet, but it’s definitely picking up, suddenly got a lot nosier in the last 5mins or so.

shreknjumps · 22/01/2024 00:32

Well I've not put the bins out 😅

LikeWhyThough · 22/01/2024 00:39

Anyone in NI heard about the Stena Line that hasn't been able to enter Belfast Lough? It's just been stuck out at sea for hours.
