London, so the least affected, in theory - but our gates and fences are rattling madly, and a couple of rubbish bins have gone rolling down the road

Surrey, nothing, just windy, no damage.

JanetandRita · 22/01/2024 08:19

Smashed tiles all over the garden this morning 😭. Will need to go investigate the damage today

Minihippyme89 · 22/01/2024 08:29

My neighbours fence is completely down, my garden furniture is all over the place. Will go and investigate later if there’s anymore damage. I live at the top of a hill and behind our terraced houses there’s another hill so it creates a sort of tunnel and the wind always sounds so much worse. There’s been a lot of hail here as well.

minsmum · 22/01/2024 08:54

Garden fence down we are in North London, heard something fall off the roof last night but couldn't find anything could have been next door mind you

Ginmonkeyagain · 22/01/2024 09:38

Done a bit of a tot up -

Gains - several plant pots, some of next doors garden.

Losses - part of a fence panel, several plant pots and one trainer (told Mr Monkey not to leave them outside).

EasternStandard · 22/01/2024 09:39

It was noisy but not too bad

tabulahrasa · 22/01/2024 09:42

Scotland - nearish Edinburgh...

My power went out last night, website says it might be fixed by 10 tonight 😐

Still pretty windy and I know there’s at least one road fairly near blocked by a fallen tree

Beginningless · 22/01/2024 09:48

Sorry for those without power, that’s not fun at all. Glasgow here, I was scared in bed last night, very strong gusts and we live next to a park with our garden bordered by trees. DH reassured me that they would have to fall uphill, but I felt like there was a risk of windows coming in from wind. Tired from crap sleep and youngest had a nightmare, no wonder. Garden furniture all rolled around and on walk to school there were many trees down in the park.

Ooh I wonder if you are near me. I have power, but there's an area here that's off, and expected to be back on by 10...

SomeCatFromJapan · 22/01/2024 09:53

Why do people leave trampolines unsecured during these weather events btw? What is the thought process behind that?

Possibly... or that’s what they’ve told everyone 🤣

I know a primary school is shut because they’ve got the same power cut, but I’m not particularly near it tbh, but to be fair, I’m not really near anything... I live on a wee back road

Dibblydoodahdah · 22/01/2024 10:06

Wind has almost disappeared where I am (rural North West Essex) but we’ve just had a power cut…can’t believe it actually stayed on last night when it was howling!

NeedWineNow · 22/01/2024 10:08

Well we've got up and we're still in Kansas (aka Kent) and haven't been swept away to Oz! DH had to rescue our food caddy before we went to bed last night. I looked out and it had landed across the road and I was a bit concerned that it might get blown into the main road or into the rail track nearby. DH went out to rescue it and came in soaked and windblown - he was only out less than a minute. Now it has passed we've got bright sunshine and all is quiet thankfully.

I was amazed to read of so many posters saying they has put their bins out - like WTF would you do that? And so many saying their garden furniture was blowing about

Like this didnt come out of the blue, we knew it was coming, the news was full of it. Does no one understand what an amber warning means and how dangerous wind can be? What were people not out in their gardens Saturday morning securing or putting away everything?

My local primary school is open, so you might be right that they are just telling everyone 10pm!

Hope it's back on sooner than that. I'm hearing that some people near me are back on now.

Right!? Would you not think for two seconds?
One of my poor neighbours though lost part of their garden furniture despite it being weighted down with heavy blocks though which was a bit unexpected. I don't think it's final destination has been determined yet.

BirthdayRainbow · 22/01/2024 12:50

The not to sleep near windows is a bit daft as I'd think most people have beds that are near and can't be moved.

Storm Jocelyn for tomorrow.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 22/01/2024 12:57

Neighbours fence has lost another two panels. Cfs have already asked when I will be paying for them to be replaced. The answer was still “Never”.
Thankfully we haven’t incurred any losses other than the usual loose garden debris of leaves/twigs etc.

People down the road from us put theirs out at midday yesterday and half of the recycling was blowing about, by 6pm the recycling containers were completely empty and their stuff was basically littering the whole road. All their cars were on the driveway so they weren’t away or anything. I wanted to pull over and knock and tell them to pick it all up but I’m aware I’m on the edge atm and would have probably ended up looking unhinged.

I set my alarm for 6:30 and put it out this morning when it was calmer.

Are you sure this isn't the joke post that's on Twitter etc about Apple users being OK? I fell for it when I saw it earlier and checked the met office and saw no advice about sleeping away from windows.

@squidgybits dp you have your vents closed? I find that makes the difference.

Glasgow here like a few PP. I think I've heard wind as bad recently but perhaps not so prolonged and on all sides of the house.

I don’t do twitter, Facebook or anything like that.
All newspapers were running the story

Ours was weighted down ready for Isha but went flying across the garden in the last storm. Why? We hadn't realised it wasn't pinned down. I guess my husband must have taken out the stakes to do a last mow of the lawn, probably in early October and forgotten to put them back. We had no idea it wasn't secured.

Nothing moved in yesterday's storm apart from one garden chair that blew over. I was surprised as in the last storms several chairs went as well as the trampoline taking a trip across the garden. We are down south but pretty exposed on top of a hill and the wind was howling here. I expected to see more effects this morning. Even the birdfeeders are still in the trees.

tabulahrasa · 22/01/2024 14:54

I have power - very happy about that 🤣

twigs everywhere, but no actual damage I can see... except my doormat blew away 😐 didn’t think to take that in tbh

Storm Jocelyn for tomorrow.

The media, as always, has taken the comments out of context.

The met office wasn't warning everyone to stay away from windows. They received a tweet from someone with anxiety about the weather how they could best stay safe - and it was one of the suggestions they made specifically to that person.

Blueglazzier · 22/01/2024 16:14

Around 2am the wind eased here in Dorset by the sea . I couldn't believe the noise and wouldn't look out of the window . Somehow I fell asleep and to my amazement the fencing was still up and roof intact. How lucky am I. What a night . Waiting to see the news and hear how fast that wind was . I had my pyjamas on and dressing gown nearby in case I had to exit the house in an emergency . Very scarey alone .

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 23/01/2024 01:16

It seemed like it had ramped up here around 3:15ish. I had the most awful dream. I was in the car with my Sister who was driving and we were driving down the road. As we came to the end I could see a big tree that was going to fall, so I told her to floor it pulling out and get past it. There was a cyclist in front so she was driving really slow. As we pulled on to the road leading to town there was trees all over the road near the park and the pub opposite the hedge had blown down. Then as we getting near to the shop that's there I could see people falling over and explosions happening. At first I wasn't sure what was happening and then saw loads of men with black backpacks throwing bombs into the shops. I dream some bizarre bloody shite!! I woke up after that bloody terrified and the really loud wind definitely didn't help with the situation. That was definitely one time living alone sucks. Was quite surprised my garden table and chairs have remained firmly where they are especially given they're on a slight incline. Although they are sat cornered between two fences. Had a quick look this morning and it didn't appear I've lost anymore roof tiles although some of the top layer of my garden wall looks like it's come off, but that might have happened before storm isha. We did have some very strong hailstone around 5:15 at one point I was worried it was going to come through my porch roof.
