London, so the least affected, in theory - but our gates and fences are rattling madly, and a couple of rubbish bins have gone rolling down the road

Devon. Been blowy since supper time. Gone quiet now.

BubbleBubbleBubbleBubblePop · 21/01/2024 23:06

North East Scotland. I'm just waiting for my house to be swept up into the air, Wizard of Oz style.

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 21/01/2024 23:07

Central Scotland. Wind is really quite scary, praying a tree doesn't come down on our roof (woods at back of house) and had to go weigh down trampoline etc. Village next to us has lost power in some streets. Hope everyone stays safe.

IggOrEgg · 21/01/2024 23:08

We do our best @Sodullincomparison i know I sound miserable as sin but it is good to help where we can, and we try to do so whenever possible. I hope your roof makes it through!

DustSalad · 21/01/2024 23:08

Omg the water in my toilet is being sucked back and forth!!

Mimiah · 21/01/2024 23:08

Western Northern Ireland - awful. Trees down everywhere. First time I've felt scared during a storm I think.

FranktheElf · 21/01/2024 23:08

West Yorkshire and I can't hear anything at the moment! Usually our house sounds bad as it's very old and single glazed sash windows. Not sure why it's not bad here, it's very strange.

Mynaddmawr · 21/01/2024 23:09

North West Wales. 90mph gusts according to met Office and it definitely sounds like it! Lights are flickering and can hear various bangs from the garden- I don't think all my pots will make it through

God's own country.

Dorset south west coast, nothing to report!

Left · 21/01/2024 23:10

Midlands. Bins and garden furniture still in their normal locations. Fence blew down in storm Babet and recently replaced so I’m hoping it’ll last out few storms now 🤞

Currently sounding calm out there but the wind has been scarily loud at times.

Ihateslugs · 21/01/2024 23:10

It’s not really noticeable here near Manchester ( Bramhall/Stockport), bit windy and damp but nothing blowing around.

Mind you, after living in Berkshire when the hurricane hit in 1987, it would have to be very bad to worry me. That night I was on my own as husband was working away with two children ( age 4 and 13 months) asleep upstairs and I was 8 months pregnant. It was awful, our shed ended up in the road, we lost dozens of roof tiles and trees were crashing down all around the estate. My lovely neighbour came to sit with me as she knew I was on my own and we snoozed in the lounge in candlelight. Now that was a fun storm!

Fife, Scotland. Rain absolutely bucketing down & winds so strong I'm wondering whether the windows or roof are gonna go. Doubtful if our garage, shed or fences will make it through the night. Our little village is prone to flooding too so I'm expecting a welly day tomorrow 🙈

Minymile · 21/01/2024 23:11

Nearish Canterbury SEast here.
Very windy. Trees swaying allover the place.
Moved the bins into the outside toilets as last time they blew everywhere and caused a lot of damage.
Might move the car as it’s under a tree.
Windows rattling as they’re old.
Worried about the chimney stacks too as they need repointing so hope they last. If one of them comes down it might end up in bed with us , maybe I should just move the bed a bit too.

It does sound like it’s getting worse.

Odiebay · 21/01/2024 23:12

Reading area. Powers been out for 2 hours now for whole village. Says they hope to restore by midday tomorrow and I hope they are right garden furniture in my living room as it was about to fly out of my garden!.

No internet and no laptop charge... Thinking about what to do for work tomorrow as I WFH!

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 21/01/2024 23:12

North Essex. Doesn’t sound bad from indoors but I have triple glazing so hear very little. Neighbours wheelie bins are still standing. Nearly gave myself a hernia this morning moving two tall plant pots containing bay trees indoors from the front. Bad wind a few weeks ago blew these over and made such a mess. It’s forecast to continue here off and on until Wednesday.

Goodness !!😱

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/01/2024 23:13

A bit lively here in the east midlands, but then I was on Florida's gulf coast when Ian hit - now that's something I don't want to repeat

Tara336 · 21/01/2024 22:13

Dorset very wet and windy, DH in his wisdom put our bin out for collection tomorrow despite me saying its a bad idea bin is now on its side in the hedge and I'm struggling not to say I told you so after he bit my head off earlier

No need to say it - he knows lol!

PropertyManager · 21/01/2024 23:14

Salisbury, nothing much going on, bit of rain, blustery, but nothing exceptional, just been out to walk the hound.

@tachetastic Grin

I was born in Pontefract so slightly biased!!! 😂

Kelsie78 · 21/01/2024 23:15

Kent coast and it's rough as hell. Various bangs and clanging going on out there! Glad I got my washing in earlier

BubbleBubbleBubbleBubblePop · 21/01/2024 23:15

I do wonder how, after storms, you see massive fully grown trees blown down, pulled out at the root by the wind yet no ones parked car ever seems to move an inch in the wind. I'd have thought that some of the giant trees that I've seen blown down would weigh more than a standard sized car.

Praying my horse is ok and that my stables don't blow away (Exmoor)..... Wish I could bring her into the house but obviously not an option!

❤️🐴 Hope so.
