London, so the least affected, in theory - but our gates and fences are rattling madly, and a couple of rubbish bins have gone rolling down the road

I'm not loving it. My house it making sounds I never knew it could make.

Dorset very wet and windy, DH in his wisdom put our bin out for collection tomorrow despite me saying its a bad idea bin is now on its side in the hedge and I'm struggling not to say I told you so after he bit my head off earlier

I put mine out earlier and so did next door's. I've been keeping and eye on them both and both were still firmly stood in place. Came in the living room about half an hour ago and had a quick look out of the window. Next doors bin in the road and mine gone completely. Found it having a Jaunt down the street. Had to chase after it and a rogue egg carton in my pjs and slippers. I've fetched both bins into my front garden and put them behind my garden wall although it's only a foot high so whether or not they'll stay there I'm not sure. I keep hearing loud bangs outside but the bins seem be staying where they are atm. I bet the lady opposite me is glad that when my garden fence was put in, it was screwed partially on to her fence. The person who fitted Mine pointed out to her after she moaned about them not damaging her fence. That part of hers was actually really loose and liable to come down in strong winds so nailing the two together would give hers more support too.

Shodan · 21/01/2024 22:47

Surrey here- wind is whistling around the chimney and it's raining out there.

Had to go out to rescue my wheelie bin that had prostrated itself on the ground and pop a few bits back in. Fortunately it's recycling this week so nothing grimy.

DCat went out for a wee earlier and came in shouting his displeasure at the whole situation. But he got a nice rub down with a towel so I think he considered it a fair trade.

afaloren · 21/01/2024 22:49

Midlands, our gazebo ended up on its side blocking the back door. Also one of our windows leaks when it rains heavily so that’s fun. DH has bought some stuff to reseal it tomorrow.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 21/01/2024 22:45

You are hardcore! 😂

Im in Notts too (south) and its got worse over past hour.

My pups are frightened 😞

I’m west notts and I think I spoke too soon 😂

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 21/01/2024 22:51

Central Scotland- quite stormy shall we say. Wheelie bins are having aces up and down the street.

BirthdayRainbow · 21/01/2024 22:52

I'm going to try and sleep. No one has put their bins out here.

I hope everyone and everything is all fine tomorrow.

Shrub in a big pot on a wheeled platform (in front of little used back gate, so needs to be relocated occasionally) which could not possibly move without strong human intervention, according to my DH this am, is currently twirling slowly around the end patio with a broken branch sticking out, looking like a leafy Dalek.

SW London.

Your leafy dalek made me laugh!

ShineyNewOnes · 21/01/2024 22:53

I don't like this at all. I'm feeling really anxious.
I've gone to bed to try and sleep through it but I can't. The wind is too loud. I live right next to a field with huge trees very close to my house. I've been watching the trees on and off all day trying to reassure myself that they won't fall.

IggOrEgg · 21/01/2024 22:54

Absolute pain in the arse. We’re on a farm in the south west. The cows and horses are all, understandably, v on edge and running a constant risk of doing themselves a mischief, I can’t open one barn door because it’ll catch the wind and take me out so am having to do everything by hand without the tractor/handler, one of the other barns has lost two roof sheets already, the ute got hit by one of the aforementioned roof sheets and everything in the yard is just fucking everywhere. Oh and a tree came down across the road just up from us about an hour ago so we’ve just been out moving that, because y’know community and all. I’m fucking pissed off. Everything is so much harder work in this weather.

Scutterbug · 21/01/2024 22:54

Warks and it’s not too bad here? It’s windy and was raining a bit when I just jet the dog out. But it seemed windier an hour ago than now.

Elfie23 · 21/01/2024 22:54

Hertfordshire - live in a block of flats fairly high up - very very windy out there!
Neighbour knocked on the door earlier looking rather sheepish to tell me he'd parked next to me and the wind took the door out his hand when he was getting out and it's bashed my car - couldn't see any damage when I went out with my phone light but can feel a dent when I run my hand over the area 🤦🏻‍♀️ poor bloke was so sorry got his details and will look again in the morning if the car hasn't blown away!

Behind where I am is a small industrial estate with big wheelie bins - pretty sure one has gone over or gone into another as the bang was so loud!

Thecatmaster · 21/01/2024 22:54

It's not great here in Bristol. This is definitely the worst wind storm that I have ever encountered. The wind is so loud. Something was thrown against the kitchen window and the windows are whistling. The puppy refused to go out for a wee. The trees are straining at their branches. Strangely, when I went out, I expected to be blown off my feet. It was very blustery in my garden and the wind was surprisingly warm. This climate change really worries me. I hate the near constant wind. I want my old weather back!

lastchristmas80 · 21/01/2024 22:54

On the edges of London. House is about to blow down, and the sky tv dish is wobbling around in a way that suggests it’s destined to hit the garden patio any moment.

Wictc · 21/01/2024 22:55

London here and the fence panel has gone. Hopefully that will be all!!

Sodullincomparison · 21/01/2024 22:56

@IggOrEgg thank you for braving it to clear trees. Our local tractors have been about all evening.

our electricity is back after five hours so that is good as we can all sleep in our own beds rather than all being together.

not sounding great at all and not sure my roof is going to make it through the night in tact.

BrainInAJar · 21/01/2024 23:01

Times like this I remind myself that this block of flats has been standing for nearly 100 years so v unlikely it will blow away now!

But yes, I will be looking for lost roof tiles tomorrow.

The wind is so loud it's distracting, might not be able to sleep.

The lights keep flickering as well. (East Central Scotland)

Runnerinthenight · 21/01/2024 23:01

I do enjoy a storm... but this one is seriously scarey!!

DC3 was working until 10pm and I was anxious until they got home, thankfully safely, even though there was a tree down on their way home.

FastingPhilly · 21/01/2024 23:02

Bucks - really bad here. Thank goodness the trampoline has sandbags on the legs or I think it would be in the neighbour's garden

hennipenni · 21/01/2024 23:04

Notts here, still very windy. My house is making strange noises and my wardrobe doors are rattling.
Next door for sale sign is taking a battering along with our adjoining fence. Big tree in the back garden swaying a fair bit.

Dahliasrule · 21/01/2024 23:05

The wind keeps lifting our letter box flap and it sounds like the post. Our dog always fetches the post so she keeps rushing frantically downstairs to get the letters and is seriously confused!

GintyMcGinty · 21/01/2024 21:56

Stuck on a cross country train after my flight was cancelled.

Very delayed as it's had to go slow.

No food. Hungry. Bored.

Still got more than an hour to go 🥲

Urgh...We were stuck on one yesterday! don't forget you might be able to get a discount!
My ''Cappuccino'' served on board {albeit by a nice woman} was very weak..and look at the size of it! talk about ''Shrinkflation''.

Hope you are home by now.

How is Isha treating you?
TimeIhadaNightCapwithSanta · 21/01/2024 23:05

NW Scotland. Its not too bad here, considering. I've just been out to feed the animals and it was ok, whereas I remember one storm about 12 years ago when I wondered if I was stupid doing the same fearing I'd be struck by a rooftile or somesuch. Only damage I could see was the bird feeder is down, but I'll take a proper look tomorrow.

DuckBushCityLimit · 21/01/2024 23:05

Horrible. We're in the first stages of a loft conversion so scaffolding up and most of the roof missing. The builders were here yesterday but seemed unconcerned about the coming weather, and I'm not convinced they left everything up there as safe as they should have. Everything's making horrible noises, and I hate to think how much water will be getting in right now. Argh! Just praying it all dies down asap.

Ishaloadacrap · 21/01/2024 23:05

Northern Ireland. It’s been horrific. Trees down in the garden, fence down, multiple power cuts, floods, roads blocked with trees and sirens wailing. I have NEVER known a storm like this 😥I just hope to god there have been no injuries or fatalities.
