Weird things your body does (not seen one of these threads for a while?)

Williaint · 15/01/2024 18:47

Just in the shower once again counting how many tiny TINY little red dots have newly appeared on my boobs and arms and made me remember some of the past MN threads about weird shit the body does for no reason, especially the things that Google says = death imminent.

the ones that sound concerning have all been checked out and explained as "body can do strange but harmless things".

As above - I get random pin prick red dots mainly on my boobs and upper arms. They are so teeny if I didn't look for them id prob never notice. They aren't cherry angiomas, just dots like I've been jabbed by a needle 🤔

When I wake up in the morning if I go to touch my eye bag area even just slightly, no actual touching, i hear a whooshing in my ear on the same side

I get very slight beaus lines on all my nails for no reason whatsoever

If I get VERY stressed I sometimes get a splinter haemorrhage, always on the same nail, same place

I occasionally get slight purpura in the exact same place on my thigh. Nothing like googling "tiny bruises on leg no injury" to put the shits up you!

Angel by Thierry Mugler literally smells like BO on me. Perfumes with similar notes are fine, just something in that reacts to my....oils???

I have one random very straight thick ginger pube that just grows forever and I have to trim it. (not just one pube, just one ginger one)

I once had a cyst on my forehead and when I finally squeezed it cut it out with a scalpel from Amazon a shard of glass came out 🥴 do not recall having an accident!!

Anyone else have anything a bit weird? Or am I not that weird and others get stuff like this?? 😃

That's quite a collection!

I have the red dots (but also cherry angiomas as well).

I've got a weird face pain that started to strike me originally only when I went into a specific cinema.

In cold weather I lose control of my hands way more than other people seem to and it can last for ages. Been that way since childhood.

Stopped shaving years ago - razor burn never went away, all over my legs.

I get random cysts on my upper body and then they go away.

I'm sure there's loads I'm forgetting.

CandleWick4 · 15/01/2024 19:10

I get the red dots too! I can move my ears, and I can sort of block them and make them whoosh just by sort of tensing them.

I had a shooting pain in my bum earlier and it’s a real medical thing to do with your pelvic floor. Googled it and blew my mind 🤣

“Just as spasms of neck muscles cause headaches, spasms of the pelvic muscles causes proctalgia. Proctalgia is pain due to a spasm of the pelvic floor muscles, the muscles of the anal sphincter, or the muscles of the rectum. This causes severe stabbing pain like a knife sticking into the rectum.”

This is otherwise known as javelin bum and there are many references to it in Mumsnet. You’ll find many a fellow traveller here, myself included!

YellowWiggle · 15/01/2024 19:21

I get “Exploding Head Syndrome” when I’m stressed.

lemonyfox · 15/01/2024 19:22

The end of my tongue always splits very slightly just before I get a cold.

I get these weird white hairs on my boobs which are a bit like feathers when I pluck them out. Like multiple tiny hairs in one go come out. I'm not explaining it very well but they're not normal hairs!

That's called nystagmus. Do you have any problems with your ears that affect your balance? The other thing that can cause it is a visual impairment.

RedLem0nade · 15/01/2024 19:26

I get a random stabby pain right in my belly button sometimes. It’s really severe and I have to freeze when it comes on. Tends to come and go for a few minutes and the overlying skin is really sensitive during that time. Then it disappears again. Happened about 3-4 times over the past two years. Weird.

Also if I tap my cheek it makes my lip twitch. It’s called Chvostek’s sign and can be due to low calcium but mine is normal! Had it for years. I tend to have very jumpy tendon reflexes too.

devildeepbluesea · 15/01/2024 19:27

I have a bunion on my left foot. It regularly goes into agonising pain, and I told the podiatrist that it feels like it’s dislocating. He told me that most people with bunions also have arthritis, which swells the gaps in the joint and therefore there’s less room for the bunion to move. I don’t have arthritis so the pain is, in fact, my bunion slightly dislocating. I just have to wait for it to slide back into place, without putting any weight on my toes.

When I’m run down or anxious my eyelids quiver.

When I sleep I do so with my arms and hands curled inwards. When I wake up both my hands are completely numb and I have to wait a minute or two before the feeling comes back.

I know! I was born with it.

I do have issues with my ears and balance but those problems came on much later.

If wind blows on my back I feel like I'm going to pass out. It's REALLY weird. Blowing into my face is fine

Sauvblanctime · 15/01/2024 19:32

I can’t process mushrooms.

they come out the same shape they went in

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/01/2024 19:35

I have lots of red dots, but now I’m too scared to google cherry anginoma

when I cry or think of anything sad, I get a deep weird tingling feeling in my right thigh. The chiropractor said it’s due to an old running injury, but why only when I’m sad?! I think the thought and feel the twinge, and I have tested this exhaustively.

the front of my hair just will not hold dye. I used to think it just grew really really fast, but it pretty much just will not hold the dye. It returns to white within 24 hours. I use mascara on it now as it makes me look like I have a wonky hairline because a big
chunk of it is white

user1471453601 · 15/01/2024 19:37

As well, bodies/minds do truly wonderful things. After a rather brutal operation on my back, I recall the nurse saying she would get me into my own Pjs. I recall her saying "lean over my arm". The next thing I recall is wondering who was screaming?

My next thought, some time later, was it must have been me, as I was the only person in the ward.

I have absolutely no memory of pain whatsoever. and I'm grateful for that

Chypre · 15/01/2024 19:40

Can’t cut an onion without crying a river, not in ski goggles, not in a food processor, just can’t. Also can’t get even tiniest bit of sea water (pool chlorine is okay) into my eyes - I will then drown in my own snot, because eyes and nose immediately start watering at industrial rates. Will wear any random mascara/eye cream/eyeliner though, can’t tell my eyes are “sensitive” at all!

sciencemama · 15/01/2024 19:42

I have one extra long eyebrow hair that pokes out and have to pluck out completely and also a very strange hair always appears out of a mole on my arm and I have to pluck that out too...

I have a weird little toenail that is too thick to cut with scissors or nail clippers but can file down to regular thickness but every 6 months or so it's like a layer falls off and another layer of nail is beneath...

Whenever I shower I get a red blotchy rash on my neck... it's not a reaction to any soap shower gel or shampoo and I don't rub it with a coarse brush, sponge or cloth either... just always appears.

Recently I have developed a strange darker patch of skin on my cheek the size of a pea, it does t bother me and nobody notices it as far as I know

Mufflepuff · 15/01/2024 19:44

I love these threads as I have health anxiety so hearing about other people's weird-but-normal body things chills me out!

A couple of years ago I got a stabbing pain in a tiny area to the side of my spine like someone stuck a needle in me. There was absolutely nothing to see and it would come on completely randomly. It was in the skin rather than any deeper. It made me jump every time. Had it for 18 months then it went away never to return.

The end of my nose twitches when I'm anxious. I'm sure there's no muscles there though?

I'm sure there's more but can't think of them atm.

HippyChickMama · 15/01/2024 19:46

If I'm really tired or stressed, I get the sensation that there's a hair across my forehead and eye when there's nothing there.
I have achenbach syndrome, had it in my fingers for years but since becoming peri menopausal I now get it in the heel of my hand and the soles of my feet.
I 'gleek' nearly every time I yawn

ithinkthatmaybeimdreaming · 15/01/2024 19:46

I get a brief sharp stabbing pain on my scalp sometimes. It's not really painful, more annoying. If it's really annoying I take a painkiller and it disappears, until the next time - which is many months later. It's been happening for decades.

ohpoowhatnow · 15/01/2024 19:47

I get sharp stabbing pains in my armpits when I'm startled and I have to itch them for it to go.

I have a really feathery fine hair that grows from my cheekbone that I have to pull out every now and again.

daisiesyellow · 15/01/2024 19:51

My hair is fine and mousy brown but I have one thick black hair thats only very slightly outside of my hairline on my forehead. It comes down to my nose!

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 15/01/2024 19:52

I have weird tear ducts. On occasions they click, no idea why it starts but it goes on for a while and is loud enough that DH hears it. I also get an eyelash that grows out of my tear duct, gives me headaches when I don't realise it's grown long and needs plucking (which is horrendously painful).

I have a fine hair just below my eye. It’s nigh on invisible and when I pull on it I can “make” my cheek go in and out. I’m really very fond of it.

LittleGreenDuck · 15/01/2024 19:53

I can scratch a particular spot on my leg and feel the scratch on my back. It's really weird, like there's a nerve connecting the two, or the parts of my brain that feel touch have been swapped over.
