Weird things that make you cringe

Do you have any odd things that make you cringe?

I find the sound of water being poured into a jug or glass really cringe.. it’s so odd. Water coming out of a tap is fine, but it’s that gluggy noise. My daughter had a relaxing video on YouTube today and it had a stream with some twinkly music over the top.. the bloody stream going over a rock was making a similar gluggy noise and making me cringe 🤣.

Anyone else have anything similar and ridiculous?!

Oh and any type of flash mob, audience participation type thing (clapping along etc) makes me cringe myself inside out

I remember hearing about a musical theatre company during lockdown who would come to your house and perform outside on your street. Literally can’t imagine anything WORSE!!!

Taking wet woolly jumpers out of the washing machine. Rubbing flour into butter. Can’t do it, need to get the kids to start it for me.

Seeing as there’s a lot of husband ones, DH abbreviates nouns all the time, or gives them …pet names? like, ‘let’s go and watch the base.’ Or ‘did you have a nice time at the parker?’

I don’t know why but it makes me want to tear my ears off.

Astridastro · 14/01/2024 00:05

I have misophonia so hate loads of things
hate hearing people eating and slurpy drinking
scrapping plates and bowls
sucking sweets and chewing gum
eating meat on the bone, gnawing round chicken wings or ribs makes me heave
smoking in general especially the ends so ashtrays, stubbing them out in drinks
putting non food items on finished plates of food like napkins etc

I know I’m an odd person

Another one is remembering people's behaviour in the pandemic. The clapping, the shaming neighbours for not clapping, the escalation from clapping to banging pots and pans, the escalation of neighbour wars from people who had to put kids to bed at the time of the daily pan bashing session, the reporting neighbours for absolutely anything and everything because it was finally their moment to shine given the local neighbourhood watch groups were now being held on zoom and they could finally get revenge on Mavis and Barry for putting the wrong bins out on the wrong week and the whole street following suit and then having their bins out of sync. And the toilet roll and supermarket queues.

Cocorico22 · 14/01/2024 00:06

This is going to sound unhinged, but if I am sitting close to a cat and the cat stares at me in the eyes for a while, it reaches a point when I shudder and feel weird and cringy
😖🫤🤣

please tell me I’m not the only one, and don’t get me wrong I’m a cat lover honest!

whatsitcalledwhen · 14/01/2024 00:08

When people in films brush their teeth without any water and it sounds like dry scraping. Makes me want to rip off my own skin 😂

whatsitcalledwhen · 14/01/2024 00:09

People licking their fingers 🤢

whatsitcalledwhen · 14/01/2024 00:10

The cold air hitting my skin when I get out of the shower. I have to really gear myself up to get in because I'm dreading getting out and once I'm in I put off getting out.

Dh says "fixings" - as in "We've got the fixings for salad/Mexican food"

Ingredients ,,,,,they;re ingredients

And my DMum used to say ( actually probably still does)

'Urbs and Zorbet for herbs and sorbet .

We are not American or ever lived there .

Trickofthetrade · 14/01/2024 00:16

Fuzzy felt boards.

Trickofthetrade · 14/01/2024 00:17

The sound of someone scratching their scalp with really long nails . Vom.

I'd hate that too! For some reason, I hate the word 'fillings', so if my husband says he fancies "jacket potato and fillings", the "fillings" bit would make me feel a bit ill - so weird!

Polystyrene. The noise makes me want to claw my own skin off.

This. I can’t bear it.

i read somewhere that the sound of things like nails down a blackboard makes us uneasy because it’s similar to the sounds great apes make when they’re sounding the alarm as it were. Polystyrene is obvs quite similar.

I also feel the same about submarines!

And metal nail files, but also the sandpapery ones.
Plus seeing or hearing anyone actually filing their nails (especially sawing back and forth which I see nail techs doing a lot and shouldn't as it weakens the nails)
Needless to say I can't use said nail files myself.
Newspapers
Bricks
Sandpaper
Wool
Acrylic
Salt
Sugar
Soap powder
Shoes without socks (especially trainers)
Being barefoot on hard floors
Putting my phone on a surface and hearing fine grit / dust underneath it.
Sand!!
Many foods
The sight and sound of shaving (have to close my eyes when shaving ads come on the TV)

(I'm Autistic so have a lot of sensory issues)

Eeek I have a couple of those too! Ooh no, you should always file one way! I learnt this the hard way when my nails kept splitting!!! x

Sloths.

Aww I love sloths 🦥

Musicals. I hate when they go from talking & break into song. It makes me horribly embarrassed for them.

I came here to say this too. I always feel mortified!

evtheria · 14/01/2024 01:08

The feel of that matte, unvarnished pottery stuff. A bit like terracotta?

Just thinking about it makes my throat go ughaghagh! I don't even mean running my nails over it, just the feel... so many beautiful handmade dinner plates or coffee mugs I can't stand touching!

Noo I would love to see a FlashMob !
I watch them on YouTube and lament the fact they don't happen .

A couple of weeks ago I heard what I thought might be one in Westfields but it was just someone pratting about with their phone

PiggieWig · 14/01/2024 01:14

The word ‘atop’.

I have never heard anyone use it IRL but you see it written and it makes me cringe. It’s so twee and always jars in a sentence.

Babla · 14/01/2024 01:27

MrsNandortheRelentless · 13/01/2024 23:13

Micro fibre dishcloths but dry ones. They cling to dry hands and skin. AWFUL.

Agree with this.. I can't touch them

TTCquestion · 14/01/2024 01:29

Someone with a mound of rice but scraping away at the few grains on the side - arerrrgggghhhhhh

SaltedCaramelIcedLatte · 14/01/2024 01:32

Washing raw chicken

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/01/2024 01:35

Oh another one

When something is written on an inanimate object like

"Seal me to keep me fresh"
"I;m recycled"
"I'm delicious and gluten free"

No you're A THING you cannot declare your qualities

TTCquestion · 14/01/2024 01:35

ChihuahuasREvil · 13/01/2024 21:17

The word horrid.

The sound of other people scratching themselves.

people making mmmm noises when they’re eating something they like the taste of. That makes me want to hurl.

I love Nigella but I don’t love when she grunts “Hmph!” in appreciation of something she eats.

TTCquestion · 14/01/2024 01:36

Sorry to offend many but I have to say I literally cringe when I read a request for cash in a wedding invitation.
