Weird things that make you cringe

Do you have any odd things that make you cringe?

I find the sound of water being poured into a jug or glass really cringe.. it’s so odd. Water coming out of a tap is fine, but it’s that gluggy noise. My daughter had a relaxing video on YouTube today and it had a stream with some twinkly music over the top.. the bloody stream going over a rock was making a similar gluggy noise and making me cringe 🤣.

Anyone else have anything similar and ridiculous?!

Random - the prom scene on Back to the future, when Marty is watching his Dad jamming on his guitar. I could never watch it as it made me cringe! BlushGrin

the thought of wooden spoons/ice lolly sticks makes my teeth feel like sandpaper .. weird I know. And light switches that are wonky on the wall make me gag. Can’t explain either ick or the reactions 🤷‍♀️

My DS shares your dislike of wooden spoons and lolly sticks etc.

Cookerhood · 13/01/2024 21:25

Wool rubbing against paper or polystyrene. Ugh

Peaches - the skin

Not a euphemism, I love furry peach skin. 😁

WinningBV · 13/01/2024 21:45

Wet paper, especially soggy stickers.

Sloppy chops…but surely everyone hates that yikes! 😂

LaughingAtClowns · 13/01/2024 21:51

The noise of the light being switched on in the bathroom (pull cord). I bloody hate it

Lemonandlime123 · 13/01/2024 21:52

Saying happy birthday or merry Christmas etc. I don't know why but it makes me cringe, I hate it!

Mallowmarshmallow · 13/01/2024 22:06

The memory of a really weird ravioli with strange crunchy lemon stuff on top which I ate in a Jamie Oliver restaurant once. It made me feel sick all the way home on the train and the thought of it still makes me cringe more than ten years later. I've never forgiven Jamie!

Does anyone remember those horrible blankets in the 80s that were a weird, itchy wool-fleece with a thick satin ribbon sewn around the border? The feel of those. I can picture one and it gives me an instant shiver down the spine feeling.

StHilarion · 13/01/2024 22:26

Love Melon but removing the inner seeds makes me heave

Bulkypeepants · 13/01/2024 22:30

Velvet. Stroke it one way and it's fine. Stroke it the other way (against the nap) and it makes me retch.

larkstar · 13/01/2024 22:40

Anything like screwed up sweet wrappers (or apple cores, fruit stones - dates, plums, peaches) plonked into empty used tea or coffee cups - these are the things my wife does - it may seem oddly specific but it stems from my mother (who smoked a lot) stubbing out her cigarettes in cups - I found that repulsive and feel the same about the miscellaneous things my wife puts into cups instead of getting up and putting things straight into the bin. I've explained but she'll never grasp how repulsive I find it.

coronafiona · 13/01/2024 22:42

People eating or drinking. I don't just hate it I have an almost physical reaction to it

MillicentRogers · 13/01/2024 22:50

Elderly women who look like normal elderly women with lovely elderly woman faces and clothes who've been to the hairdresser and the hair has been coloured and styled so that it looks like a wig. I get an image of the chimps from the PG Tips advert

Velcro. The sound and feel of the ‘rip’ when you undo it. Urgh.

Also like PP, nail clippers- although I’m the other way round and don’t mind it when I’m doing it but hate it when someone else is doing theirs.

Yes that fabric is awful. I always feel like there are tiny bits of dry skin on my hands getting caught on it. Argh.

When people say ‘am’ instead of ‘i’m’

Ah, the weekly shampoo and set!

I was actually talking to a hairdresser the other day who said this is becoming really rare now. Thank goodness! Imagine only washing your hair weekly, I would give myself the heave.

organicapricot · 13/01/2024 23:00

Shortbread. Makes my teeth cringe. Think it's the crumbliness. Shudder.

Look up trypophobia… fear of holes or seeds clustered

MrsNandortheRelentless · 13/01/2024 23:11

Cars in low gears..YES!

Also very loud voiced people. They make me shrink into myself. I will leave a place if I see/hear someone like this.

People singing happy birthday/for he’s a jolly good fellow to adults.

cabaret type singers, those who are one up from karaoke singers, singing Shania Twain kinda songs with that cheeky false smile & nod of the head.
See the above and add in Jane McDonald.

Cilla Black singing, it physically hurts my ears and brain.

I don’t know how to describe it but it’s that high pitched Bollywood type singing and music. I hear it a lot on the train from mobile phones, it’s blaringly loud and again it physically hurts my ears and brain.

MrsNandortheRelentless · 13/01/2024 23:13

Micro fibre dishcloths but dry ones. They cling to dry hands and skin. AWFUL.

Oh god yes. Thought that was just me. I have to immediately wet the cloth or I will claw my skin off or heave.
I do find these reactions fascinating though. Isn’t it weird?
