Weird things that make you cringe

Do you have any odd things that make you cringe?

I find the sound of water being poured into a jug or glass really cringe.. it’s so odd. Water coming out of a tap is fine, but it’s that gluggy noise. My daughter had a relaxing video on YouTube today and it had a stream with some twinkly music over the top.. the bloody stream going over a rock was making a similar gluggy noise and making me cringe 🤣.

Anyone else have anything similar and ridiculous?!

People using the word 'gentle' or 'gently' in speech e.g. 'sending gentle hugs' or 'may I gently suggest'. FUCK OFF!

Balloons when they are blown up and the noise they make when rubbed. Just thinking about it sends shivers down my spine.

Always remember we went to a wedding years ago and they had a guy going round the tables making various balloon animals for the kids and as he got closer to our table I had to leave the room as I couldn't cope with the noise. I spent the evening either trying to get away from him making his bloody animals or the kids playing with them!!!!

I feel weird just thinking about it!!!

I felt extremely nauseous when reading this 🤢!

the thought of wooden spoons/ice lolly sticks makes my teeth feel like sandpaper .. weird I know. And light switches that are wonky on the wall make me gag. Can’t explain either ick or the reactions 🤷‍♀️

My husband is the same, and he thinks it is because he once had a bad experience when he was poorly in hospital. He associates the spoons/sticks with the tongue suppressors used to check his throat during the visit.

Someone chewing a toothpick/cocktail stick or a match while they are talking , especially if they roll it round their mouth .
I don't know if it's the choking or stab injury risk ? Just makes me squirm .

Oh , I've already mentioned the toothpick thing a couple of weeks ago .
In my defence , , last week we rewatched "Whitechapel" there's an episode where two men are in a sewer and one is chewing a toothpick .

Traunatised , obvs Blush

Those really big hoop earrings some people wear. They give me the heeby jeebies. All I can think about when I see people wearing them,is that they might get their hand caught in them and rip their ears open. Shudders at the thought.

Glasses with the white transfer, I hate the feel of it and makes me feel cringe 🫠

Fordian · 28/01/2025 10:08

'Soak in' like to soak in the atmosphere. Makes my teeth itch.

And the use of 'my'. A video of making a cake: 'so I take my flour, and I rub in my butter before I mix in my eggs and my sugar'.....

Oh I also hate this noise it really sets me on edge!

Scraping of glass bowls on cooking programmes there is no need for the clink clink clink.

Coffeeishot · 28/01/2025 10:15

Navel piercings used to give me the heeby jeebies thankfully you don't see it much these days or maybe I'm just not seeing them, but it's just urgh.

The sound of a hot drink being stirred.
People stir for fucking ages !
It makes the skin crawl down my back

Oh yes, my DH does this and I hate it. Clankety fucking clank again and again😡

OMG yes!! I pretty much just use the turbulence of the milk to stir mine.

On another note, I’m enjoying my thread from a year ago reigniting 😂

I know I couldn’t work out what it was in my ‘watched’ list. I couldn’t remember it at all! Great thread though 😁

I haven't seen them since the 80s! We used to call them budgie perches.

Hillcrest2022 · 28/01/2025 20:52

The specific click of a spoon hitting against a bowl where cereal is being eaten. It's 1000 times worse early in the morning when noise tolerance is low.

Trusttheprocess1 · 28/01/2025 22:55

PiggieWig · 14/01/2024 01:14

The word ‘atop’.

I have never heard anyone use it IRL but you see it written and it makes me cringe. It’s so twee and always jars in a sentence.

Oh God, me too! I also hate it when people throw the word “ain’t” into a normal sentence when it’s not what they’d usually say. There’s so many things in speech; when people talk about ‘my music ’ or say ‘I love my sandwiches’ or something else that isn’t particular to them. Another one is when people use ‘yay’ as in ‘yay high’- I want to punch someone!
i am so intolerant… should live alone on an island…

Deathraystare · 29/01/2025 09:11

The only thing I can think of (and I will possibly be flamed for this) is accents. South African and also that nasal North American one. There is a patient on one of the wards at the moment who must be American. Very nasally. Like fingers down a chalk board!!!

Blingismything · 29/01/2025 10:13

When someone on a television drama is meant to be holding/drinking a takeaway coffee and the cup is obviously empty. This also happens with suitcases.

Whylurkwhenicanjoinin · 29/01/2025 11:58

This is quite niche so probably nobody will relate. The penchant for horsey folk to describe anything good as "super". Its an epidemic. Stop it!

FictionalCharacter · 29/01/2025 22:44

Long beards. Looking at them is bad enough but the thought of touching a beard gives me the heebie-jeebies. I always imagine them to be full of food crumbs, dried saliva and bacteria.

People cutting up their food so forcefully their knife scrapes hard against the plate. I've made my teeth go all funny just writing that.

@dothehokeycokey Apologies if you've already had her checked by the vet, but incessant leg licking is often a pain response

SchrodingersTwat2 · 30/01/2025 01:35

People who pull the handbrake on in a stupid way.

Just hold the button in like normal people so it is silent! Don't just yank it up so it goes Krrrrrrrrr and damages the cable!
