Weird things that make you cringe

Do you have any odd things that make you cringe?

I find the sound of water being poured into a jug or glass really cringe.. it’s so odd. Water coming out of a tap is fine, but it’s that gluggy noise. My daughter had a relaxing video on YouTube today and it had a stream with some twinkly music over the top.. the bloody stream going over a rock was making a similar gluggy noise and making me cringe 🤣.

Anyone else have anything similar and ridiculous?!

Seeing people bending over to drink from a tap. Makes me feel breathless on their behalf.

Sequinne · 14/01/2024 10:33

People being overly vocal when something tastes good. I mean , a simple “mmmm” is fine but it’s the constant commentary/noises “mmmm, so good” “ummmmmm” “ummmm, yummy”

I have a long list but one more for now. When paying at a till and it's late afternoon. Till operator says "have a wonderful day"

Gggrrr

It's indescribably awful isn't it! Meeeeeal.

Meal is an awful word, but to make it worse I’ve heard the phrase ‘mealy-mouthed’ and it just makes me want to scream

TheShellBeach · 14/01/2024 10:46

Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending.

It's a dreadful piece of music.

Dramasloth · 14/01/2024 10:49

Not as bad as Toploader Dancing in the Moonligjt. Cringe-worthy. Makes me want to kick the radio

WagWoofWalkMeeoow · 14/01/2024 10:49

Thin fleece fabric. Cannot abide the feeling of it.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 14/01/2024 10:59

I came on to say the word 'meal' - especially when someone extends it - we had a really nice 'meaal' ughh

Ditto terracotta pots and bricks - the texture.

My teen DD is autistic and has only eaten with plastic cutlery for years. She takes a set with her as the feel and sound of metal really sets her off. We all have to be very careful not to scrape or clatter too much with our knives and forks at the dinner table.

Spoon scraping a ceral bowl.
Also over stirring a hot drink..shut up!!

Yes this is terrible! Especially when it goes on for way too long. There’s no need to stir it at all.. the milk being poured in causes enough turbulence to require zero stirring

And yes… meal is horrendous

When you get to the end of a roll of cello tape (or any tape) and the end brings up a bit of the cardboard. That noise / feeling gives me shudders

dressedforcomfort · 14/01/2024 11:31

I can't bear to look at peach pits....

Popcorn23 · 14/01/2024 11:33

@DappledThings I hate flip flops too! I can't even look at them. I'm not a big sandal person either but flip flops are the devil's footwear.

SinnerBoy · 14/01/2024 11:34

I don't get flip flops, they're impossible to walk in, unless you scrunch your toes up, which ends up being painful.

FarleyHatcherEsq · 14/01/2024 11:36

@SinnerBoy same. Awful shoes... and the sound 🤮🤮🤮

SinnerBoy · 14/01/2024 11:41

Oh dear! (((FarleyHatcherEsq)))

Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending.

Aww I love that piece, it was my mums favourite, I included that as the reflection piece in the middle of her funeral... But yeah, I get you on the music thing, some pieces make me either anxious or grrrr!

DysmalRadius · 14/01/2024 12:46

When one person opens a car window at any speed above about 30mph and it makes a kind of fast whomping noise that makes me feel very panicky and anxious! My kids know to open them in tandem to avoid stressing me out, but they don't seem bothered by it in the same way.

I like some VW but I'm sick of The Lark Ascending always being number one in the Classic FM Hall of Fame.

Don’t blame you 🙄

baseball and the park

BMTHGlasgow · 14/01/2024 13:33

When people say 'pop' as in 'I just pop a tea bag in a cup' 🤢

Also offer - on MN people often say 'I always offer pudding after a meal' and that makes me feel all uncomfortable.

And 'select' where 'choose' would do.

No idea why. They all feel very RP English to my Scottish working class ears maybe!

Waitingfordoggo · 14/01/2024 13:39

When people say 'pop' as in 'I just pop a tea bag in a cup'

I feel the same about ‘grab’.

‘Let’s grab a coffee…’
’Come down and grab yourself a bargain…’

No! No grabbing! So uncivilised 😂

larkstar · 14/01/2024 13:41

@WagWoofWalkMeeoow TBH I count my blessings that she's not a terrorist negotiator and I'm not a hostage.

OldTinHat · 14/01/2024 13:47

Touching polystyrene and tearing apart cotton wool.

No. Just no.
