What age would you quietly think is young to have a baby?

Times are changing and first time parents definitely seem a lot older around where I am. Myself and DH are quite young but would like a family. Just curious to know what age MNers would privately think was young, or too young!

27 or under would be young to have a baby

20 or under I would consider too young

PurpleChrayne · 09/01/2024 21:09

Anything under 20.

Naptrappedmummy · 09/01/2024 21:10

I was late 20s. I would say under 25 would make me think, ‘that’s young’, although not with negative connotations attached (unless they were totally feckless or living in chaos)

Anything under 26

PeeblesPobble · 09/01/2024 21:11

Anything under 30 probably but each to their own. I just think you've not done enough living before then.

JadeVS72 · 09/01/2024 21:11

23 and under. Pretty much everyone I know who has had a baby on purpose has been at least 24.

Under 18.

Under 28I would consider young to have a baby. Not too young, just young

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 09/01/2024 21:12

Thinking of myself at those ages, I would say for me 25 and under.

coffeerevelsrule · 09/01/2024 21:13

Below 30, but also depends on length of time with partner.

SurferTodayAndTomorrow · 09/01/2024 21:13

I'd say under 25 was probably 'too young' as an ideal. Lack of time to save, get a mortgage, progress in career etc.

I say that as someone who had their oldest two dc in my early 20's. Although it all worked out fine for us, looking back now from the grand old age of 37 I wonder what the Holy fuck dh and I were thinking.

SkaneTos · 09/01/2024 21:14

17 years old.

Boomboom22 · 09/01/2024 21:14

Under 25 definitely.

Umph · 09/01/2024 21:15

I’ve met fantastic mums in their teens and rubbish mums in their 40s so I wouldn’t assume someone is too young. But generally speaking I think below mid-20s is fairly unusual/young.

I was 26 when DS was born and I was definitely younger than most of the mums at baby groups in my area and I’d say the average age of first time mums I see professionally is 30.

fourelementary · 09/01/2024 21:15

Under 25. I say that and had two under 25 muself and now have grandkids born to a mum who is herself only 24… but I still think it’s too young 🤣

Playdoughcaterpillar · 09/01/2024 21:15

Under 25 young, under 20 too young

Fiddlerdragon · 09/01/2024 21:15

Probably 19

BungleandGeorge · 09/01/2024 21:16

Young early 20s
too young (for most people but there are exceptions) teens

Izzieloo · 09/01/2024 21:16

Don’t think there is a right age to be honest depends on the person.

DramaAlpaca · 09/01/2024 21:16

Under 25.

Underthesea65 · 09/01/2024 21:16

18 or younger

CuteCillian · 09/01/2024 21:16

Under 28.

SouthLondonMum22 · 09/01/2024 21:16

Under 25 is young.

TwigTheWonderKid · 09/01/2024 21:17

18 or under and I say that as someone who didn't have children until 35.

I know some great young parents and some truly awful (though very financially comfortable) parents.
