What age would you quietly think is young to have a baby?

Times are changing and first time parents definitely seem a lot older around where I am. Myself and DH are quite young but would like a family. Just curious to know what age MNers would privately think was young, or too young!

Why with a career? I was a fully qualified accountant before I had DC at 25, had a good job that I could go back to and continue working my way up. Luckily I work for a supportive organisation but it is quite possible to do both.

@Legendairy I think your circumstances are unusual though. From what I read on MN, most under-25’s aren't well-established and able to support a child.

Under 25s are treated like children though now by many (massive generalisation I know) but that's in my experience recently.

The majority of under 25s haven't bought a property yet. For some people, this implies they can't support a child. We all place different levels of importance on this.

But parents under 25 still study, work, may live with family, may rent independently, can perform day to day adult tasks.

Every one I know who is (or was) a young parent has made their way. Some do better than others, but it was never down to age.

@MyAnacondaMight I qualified as a nurse at 21. At 25 I had already been doing the job 4 years.
I did get married at 25 (had been together since we were young teens). But unfortunately due to unexplained infertility we didn't have our daughter till we were 30! I thought by that age we would have x2 children and our family complete. Unfortunately at 35 we haven't been able to conceive again.
This is our cut off age.

@Legendairy I agree that there’s more of a tendency to do that.
But, I still think that the majority of under-25’s nowadays aren’t in a position to fully support a child. In that situation, I think it’s better to wait, because your children are your responsibility.

No age is too young or too old.
Babies are born in all sorts of circumstances.
It’s not perfect, but it’s how life happens.

Mid 20s seems about right to me, under 20 young, over 35 for many is harder, but all depends on the individuals. I was 37, but desperately wanted to have children at around 24-25, and I still think that would have been the best age for me.

I 100% agree. Really the right time to have a child is when you can support them properly and when you are mature enough to look after them well. That may be 24/25, that may be 35.
