How do you get thinner poos?!!

Egglett · 08/01/2024 17:38

Just NC'd obviously, but am not the poo troll honest.

I 'struggle' with bigger poos, like 3cm diameter, occasionally bigger. However they are really soft and healthy looking. I am never ever constipated and never push even a tiny bit - they just fall out. But they are aggravating the grade 1 haemorrhoids I got from pregnancy so I'd like them to be thinner to give the haemorrhoids a chance to heal properly.

So what foods can give me thinner poos?! Google only says that insoluble fibre gives you fatter poos, but I don't overeat that really.

In brief, I eat two portions of carbs a day, usually white rice, homemade white bread,.or potato. I eat meat, full fat dairy, nuts, veg, fruit, chocolate and home baking. Copious water and tea. A bottle of wine spread over a weekend.

TIA!

@oakleaffy Grin no actually I mean "2 poo R" don't I, poo R squared is area not circumference!

As you can tell my maths is from very long ago! 😂 Hell, we used ''Log'' books, I am that ancient.

StopTheQtipWhenTheresResistance · 09/01/2024 01:31

My DH does poos the length of a foot or more. It's not normal! 😂

StopTheQtipWhenTheresResistance · 09/01/2024 01:33

Harshreality · 08/01/2024 20:09

You need to fit a tiny, tiny colander or sieve to your bumhole which will force these monster logs into more manageable proportions

😂😂😂

Eat loads more fibre and drink tons or water

A morning coffee can help too.

A glass of prune juice every day or other day for a while if you need a big reset. Your bowl can get into habits.

Make sure you use anusol or Vaseline on your bum to help prevent damage/fissures with large stools

You've been measuring it?? Omg how revolting Confused OP you're obsessed

8 fruit and veg a day! What! When did they move the goalposts there? It’s 5 isn’t it?!

3 in the USA, 5 in the UK, 5 veg and 2 fruit in Australia.

OP

I'm type 2 diabetic, metformin has altered my poo in the way you want, but I don't think that will help you.

I'm also lactose intolerant, so a bit of milk can also clear me out.

Water can help, but tap water from a different area.

Good luck OP.

8 portions of fruit and veg sounds like a lot of fibre. If you have bulky poos already adding more fibre isn’t going to help.
Maybe talk to your GP about the haemorrhoids and focus more on them?
Your bowel is stretched to its normal of 3cms. I can’t imagine you can thin them out without going on a diet to reduce stool volume for a while and it having time to tighten up again.

Saying this from a hospital bed with bowel failure and utterly jealous you can even poo. My best piece of advice is to just enjoy them. Try not to worry and just remember how lucky you are to have a poop!

Oh that sounds terrible. What is bowel failure?

clappity · 09/01/2024 07:34

Assuming most posters are women this post proves that adult women find poop just a amusing as 8 year old boys 😁

mfhtoeh · 09/01/2024 08:00

long answer: For me it’s my bowels having global slow gut transit / gastroparesis which can’t be managed medically it seems. Caused mainly by Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.

For 6 months I’ve had every laxitive under the sun including (simultaneously) black box linaclitide & prucalopride & 6 sachets of movicol a day etc, 5 enemas a week & fortnightly bowel prep etc. with no success as I still get blockages. I’m malnourished as I’m not absorbing nutrients from food.

And to play games I’ve had 9 days of diarrhoea despite holding back on laxitives it flows through me in 30 mins and now the Molton lava is green with coffee granules in I’m back in hospital. Only just had 4.5 months on gastro wards so that really sucks.

Short answer: bowel doesn’t work. Either no poops or explosive diarrhoea. Can’t absorb nutrients from food. 0/10. Do not recommend.

It hasn't done anything to mine, they're pretty much the same as pre-metformin.

Whoof way too many comments to answer, but I really appreciate all the ideas (and all the jokes).
@mfhtoeh that sounds awful 😞 I hope things improve really soon.

I hope you have a good poop today!

I think going to the gp about the haemorrhoids is the first step.

I do think easing off bulky fibrous fruit & veg and sticking to soluble fibre for a little while is an easy logical thing to try at home. 8 portions might be just a bit too much.

Poo r squared is bound to be uncomfortable. Avoid the cubed poo, too.

How on earth do you know this?!

MikeRafone · 09/01/2024 13:42

Have you tried wiping with wet wipes? I find that less irritating, less actual wiping needed, and also the coolness of the wipe feels nice on it!

This^

it is much nicer feeling than using dry paper. Could you imagine getting poo on your leg and trying to tip it off with a dry tissue? It'd be ridiculous and yet people in the UK wipe themselves with dry tissue after they have used the loo. Get a selection of bag liners for the bin, a loo bin and put the wet wipes in the bin, or use nappy sacks etc.

Also it will make sure you keep the area surrounding the haemorrhoids much cleaner which in turn will help them heal.

MikeRafone · 09/01/2024 13:43

How on earth do you know this?!

probably because he boasts about it....Im guessing but many men are proud of stuff like this.

blackpanth · 09/01/2024 13:43

Wtf have I just read 🤣🤣

RealOne · 09/01/2024 13:49

Yeah I have IBS and bile salt malabsorption

usually I just have runny diarrhoea but on occasion it is more formed and large, like the previous poster with IBS sometimes they are Massive😬

one memorable occasion was on holiday, I have been eating a lot of eggs and had not been for a few days, yes i nearly passed out, it was so large it got stuck half way out and would not come out or go back in, the pain was fucking horrid😩

took an hour but it eventually came out, but then it would not flush and I was in a hotel, I was panicking and thought that I had blocked the drains, I was going to ring reception and blame DH! It did go eventually! We often talk about this momentous event😜

Goodgirth · 09/01/2024 15:13

@RealOne I'm glad I'm not the only one. IBS is unpredictable, at best.
I was worried for about 10 minutes yesterday that I would have to call an ambulance - can you imagine going to A&E because a poop is stuck half way out(?!) 24 hours later and it's starting to flush away. A good tip, if you don't have a plunger available, is to use a tonne of bleach on it and leave it - it helps break it down. And avoid American toilets; I once had what can only be described as a major disaster in a very posh house/mansion which didn't belong to me.

Oblomov23 · 09/01/2024 17:03

Surely a 3.5 cm Pooh, that you pass quickly and easily is the ideal?

RampantIvy · 09/01/2024 17:45

3.5 cm is the diameter, not the circumference @Oblomov23 - the size of a small macaron.

How do you get thinner poos?!!

The sausage analogy works better than the coins for me.

It's pigs in blankets you need to worry about OP.

I'd be more concerned for the Cumberland Ring.

Lilacanemone · 09/01/2024 18:51

RampantIvy · 08/01/2024 22:59

I think posters don't know what the diameter of a circle is. It is the distance across a circle through the centre, so a 3cm diameter is quite large.

I think posters are confusing diameter with circumference.

Edited

3cm diameter is not a big poo.

RampantIvy · 09/01/2024 19:01

Yes it is @Lilacanemone
